The reason being that in this game, each level archive has their own duplicates of the level's models, rather than there being one model folder it collectively pulls from like later games. The references just use the earliest-used directory for simplicity.)

Variants

Coo Coos[1][2] are hen-like creatures that only appear in Super Mario Sunshine. They resemble large chickens with two beady, green eyes, and a star on their belly. They first make an appearance in Bianco Hills, where they fly around randomly and drop splotches of goop whenever they get near Mario. They later appear in Episode 3 of Pianta Village, where they drop burning goop. Coo Coos can be defeated by jumping on them or spraying them to the ground with FLUDD. Coos Coos release several coins with each spray, up to a 1-Up Mushroom.

A variety of this enemy called Cluckboom appears in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. It behaves similarly but drops explosive bombs.
