Glimmer

Glimmer the Angler Fish[1] is an Animal Friend in the Donkey Kong series who first appeared in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. He lives in the sunken ships of Krem Quay, and is one of the few friendly inhabitants of Crocodile Isle. Like all anglerfish, Glimmer navigates through the deep sea using a light which comes out of his forehead; however, he has no teeth, which is rare for a real-world anglerfish.

Donkey Kong series
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Glimmer appears in one level, his apparent home, where he aids Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong through the oily water using the bright light attached to his head; Glimmer will swim behind the Kongs at a steady pace and cannot be harmed by enemies.
Levels:
Donkey Kong Land 2
Glimmer is absent from Donkey Kong Land 2 (being replaced by light-casting barrels) but he is pictured on the game's box art, which portrays him as aiding Diddy and Dixie Kong while being chased by a Snapjaw.
Club Nintendo
Donkey Kong Country
In the Club Nintendo comic adaptation of Donkey Kong Country 2, Glimmer makes a small cameo appearance in one panel to help Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong through the water of Krem Quay after the two fall into it while fleeing from a Kloak; it is not shown how the Kongs met Glimmer, nor is it shown when he departs from their company.

Trivia
- Glimmer may have been intended to appear in the now-canceled Nintendo GameCube game Donkey Kong Racing, as he can briefly be seen in the game's trailer in the scene where Diddy Kong and Tiny Kong ride a pair of Enguarde underwater.
- Though Glimmer doesn't appear in Donkey Kong 64, a similar Animal Friend named Lightfish appears in Gloomy Galleon, fulfilling the same role as the former. Curiously, the Japanese name of Lightfish translates to "Glimmer", even though the two characters are of different species.
