Mario Party 10 is a game for the Wii U. It is the tenth home console installment in the Mario Party series, and features many reused gameplay elements from its predecessor. The game features a standard Party Mode (similar in gameplay to the Party Mode from Mario Party 9), and a new mode called Bowser Party, in which one player controls Bowser using the GamePad, and exclusive minigames can be played. Mini Stars return in normal party, as well as vehicles in all modes. The game is also compatible with amiibo.[1]

Gameplay

Mario Party 10 offers three basic modes of play: Mario Party, Bowser Party, and amiibo Party each with their own unique styles of play.

Mario Party

Mario Party is the gameplay similar to Mario Party 9, where the characters have to get to the end of the path with the most Mini Stars. Characters move around in vehicles taking turns being the "captain", or rolling the dice. The Mini Stars are thus returning from Mario Party 9. A brand new feature is that Bowser is locked in the Gamepad with dice numbers. Each time the die is rolled, the corresponding lock will be unlocked (there are six locks, one for each number on the die). The player who unlocks the last lock loses half of their mini stars and Bowser will add a lot of Bowser spaces on the board. If Bowser isn't free until the "Almost There" event, he will remain stuck there and Bowser Jr. will add Bowser Jr. Spaces instead. Also, item shops return, this time in the form of Toad Houses, giving a dice block to all players. All players are required to use Wii Remotes, as the Wii U GamePad is incompatible with this game mode.

Free Play

A mode to play minigames freely, without worrying about the competition.

Coin Challenge

Four characters play minigames and win coins according to their place in the minigames. After 3, 5, or 7 minigames, the character with the most coins is announced as the winner.[2]

Bowser Party

Bowser Party is a new mode of gameplay featuring Bowser. There will be five players instead of four. Up to four players control Mario and his friends with Wii Remotes, with the fifth player playing against them by using the GamePad to control Bowser. Mini Stars are replaced by Hearts. The goal of Bowser is to deplete all the other players hearts, whilst the goal of the other players is to make it to the end of the course with at least one heart between them. Bowser rolls multiple dice, corresponding to the number of other players available. If Bowser catches up to the other players, he forces them to play a randomly selected "Bowser Battle" minigame, where hearts are lost if the players are hit by his attacks. If all of the hearts from all four players should be completely depleted, Bowser wins. There is some obstacles on the path, like a Whomp blocking it, like in Perilous Palace Path from Mario Party: Island Tour.

amiibo Party

Another new mode is the amiibo Party[3]; players can scan in any amiibo based on a playable character and play on small boards designed for that character with up to three other amiibo figurines. Computer players are represented by cardboard cutouts instead of amiibo. It is similar to the Mario Party playstyle prior to Mario Party 9.

amiibo Bonus

The player gets surprises once a day when using an amiibo including bases and bonus Mario Party Points with a Scratch Card.[4]

Bonus Games

Badminton Bash

Jewel Drop

Bowser Jr. minigames

The player can play the two Bowser Jr. minigames: Bowser Jr.'s Clobber Cage and Bowser Jr.'s Bonk Bash.

Minigame Tournament

A tournament by rounds where eight characters participate. Each round is a minigame, and characters who remain 1st and 2nd in the minigames make it to the next round.[5]

Bowser Challenge

The player, as Bowser, has to play all ten Bowser minigames, trying to take the highest quantity of hearts. After ending the minigames, Bowser Jr. qualifies Bowser.[6]

Toad's Room

Toad's Room is an extra mode, featuring a shop, a photo booth and a challenges mode.[7]

Shop

Players can buy characters, master difficulty for the COM, vehicles for the boards, music, and models of characters and backgrounds to use them on the Photo Booth.

Challenge List

Players see the challenges completed and yet uncompleted.[8] [9]

Photo Booth

Players can take photos with the models of characters and backgrounds bought on the shop.

Music

Players can listen to the songs bought on the shop.

The hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario never hesitates to jump into action – especially when there’s a party happening! He may have spent his fair share of time in his brother Mario’s shadow, but Luigi’s never one to shy from the shining spotlight. This regal ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom always throws her crown into the ring when Mini-Stars are at stake! Loyal, lovable, lively: Toad’s list of qualities is longer than he is tall, and he’ll use every one of his abilities to come out on top. The green gobbler has attended every Mario Party to date, and Flutter Jumps back into the fun this time around.

Driven by a greed for all things shiny and valuable, Wario can’t wait to get his hands on more Mini-Stars and Coins. Wild of moustache and every bit as devious as his accomplice Wario, the purple-garbed Waluigi returns for more mischief. Never one to turn down an invitation, this Sarasaland princess’s tomboyish streak stands her in good stead for the hustle and bustle of Mario Party. With all her experience in the Comet Observatory, Rosalina’s sure to have her eye on those Mini-Stars in her Mario Party debut. He’s finally back to kick some tail! After a break on the sidelines, the swinging king of the jungle is rolling out the barrel as a playable character once again.

Beta elements

During the Nintendo Treehouse Event at E3 2014, it was claimed that Nabbit would appear to give Bowser extra dice blocks during Bowser Party. However, this was likely a beta element, as only Bowser Jr. gives Bowser extra dice, and Nabbit appears to take Dice Blocks away from Bowser. Also in the E3 demo of Mario Party 10, the characters used Mario Party 9 winning and losing animations.

Lots of Hoo's and Ha's, Yeahs and Yahs, things like that, some Alrights. I think the only long [...] sentence I recorded was something like "Hmmm, Not bad" So again a sound, but with a couple words. My script didn’t have a "Here I go" or the "Let's go" that I hear from Rosalina in MP10." (March 17, 2015)
