Baby Luigi, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Baby Luigi is the infant form of Luigi. In the Yoshi series, Baby Luigi was kidnapped twice by Baby Bowser and Kamek. In these games, Baby Mario, along with Yoshi, have rescued Luigi a few times. Besides the Yoshi series, Baby Luigi has appeared in several sports spin-off titles. Like his older self, Baby Luigi is voiced by Charles Martinet.

History

Yoshi series

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Baby Luigi appears with his twin during the events of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, when he and the stork carrying him were captured and held by the evil Magikoopa, Kamek. After going through the many levels and bosses, Baby Luigi is finally rescued by Baby Mario and Yoshi. The stork then successfully delivers the Baby Mario Bros. to their parents.

Yoshi Touch & Go

In the Nintendo DS game, Yoshi Touch & Go, Baby Luigi was kidnapped again by Kamek's Toadies, thus setting the stage for the game, as Yoshi must fling eggs at the evil Koopas to rescue the poor infant. Also, when playing the Multiplayer mode, the second player's Yoshi will be toting Baby Luigi.

Yoshi's Island DS

Baby Luigi is one of the kidnapped babies in Yoshi's Island DS by Bowser and Kamek. After Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Baby Wario, Baby Donkey Kong, and Baby Bowser team up, they all went to save Baby Luigi. It turns out that Bowser was kidnapping all of the babies because he was searching for the seven Star Children. Fortunately, Baby Luigi hid at the time Bowser was checking the babies for stars. After defeating Bowser, Baby Luigi is rescued, and they find out they are Star Children. Later, it is revealed Baby Yoshi was the last child.

Mario Kart series

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Baby Luigi rides along with Baby Mario in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! in the Goo Goo and Rattle Buggies, his weight class being Light. Their special item is a Chain-Chomp. This game is where Baby Luigi makes his playable debut. They also have a course in this game, which is Baby Park and it is notable for being the shortest course in the game.

Mario Kart Wii

Baby Luigi later returns to the Mario Kart series as an unlockable character in Mario Kart Wii. He appears as a lightweight driver. He is unlocked by unlocking 8 Expert Staff Ghost Data in Time Trials, winning 100 WFC Ghost Races, or playing 3,150 races. He's tied with Baby Daisy for having the best speed bonus in the game, which makes vehicles like the Bullet Bike move slightly faster than normal. He also has the biggest bonus, along with Baby Mario, in the game, which is his weight bonus that significantly increases the weight on his kart.

Mario Baseball series

Along with Baby Mario, Baby Luigi appears in Mario Superstar Baseball. He's along the side of Yoshi in story mode and is one of the eight speed characters. He is also an unlockable character if the player completes story mode using Yoshi's team. He is very good at stealing bases, fielding, and even going the wall jump to catch a homerun before it is a homerun. However, his batting and fielding is very poor and his pitching is mediocre. He also appears in Mario Super Sluggers, but this time, he is available from the start. The player can recruit him in challenge mode by rescuing him in Mario's place by turning switches to open up a bridge. Like all the other baby characters in the game, he could not speak and instead says some incomprehensible baby language that only Lakitu can interpret.

Mario & Luigi series

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

Baby Luigi, along with his brother Baby Mario and the two older Mario Bros., all have starring roles in the Nintendo DS RPG Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. In battle, his abilities are, for the most part, identical to Baby Mario, as neither has any ability that sets the other apart except speed, power, and HP. The co-existence of the infant and adult Mario Bros. is explained by the fact that they are sent back in time to rescue Princess Peach after a time-travel experiment goes completely awry. After discovering that an evil alien species, the Shroobs, have taken over the Mushroom Kingdom of the past and are holding Peach hostage, the heroic Bro. of past and present must battle the entire extraterrestrial entity, eventually combating their leader, Princess Shroob. In one part of the game, it is seen that Baby Luigi was crying because of the Cobalt Star. It was also thanks to him that the heroes discovered that the Shroobs' weakness was baby tears. This discovery is later referenced in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. After uncovering the frozen Shroobs in Bowser's Castle, Mario explained to Starlow how Luigi saved the day by crying.

Character Description

Physical Description

Baby Luigi is very similar to Baby Mario. Both have black, beady eyes and a large, trademark nose. He also has a thin layer of brown hair always covered by his trademark "L" hat. The only major difference between Baby Mario and Baby Luigi is that Baby Mario wears a red shirt and red hat, while Baby Luigi wears a green shirt and green hat. Also, Baby Luigi's sneakers are green instead of light blue like Baby Mario's.

Personality

Baby Luigi, like his older self, is described as being meek and cowardly. For the most part he is very friendly too, as he gets along great with the other Babies. His timid nature is also evidenced in the Mario Kart Wii official guide, which states that he used to ride with Baby Daisy until her bold and boisterous personality scared him. In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Baby Luigi seemed to be the only one who knew that restoring the colbalt star shards would restore the Elder Princess Shroob because he cried at the cobalt star. Baby Luigi also has a love of Bubbles and Milk(which he calls Milkies).

Although Baby Luigi is an extreme crybaby, he seems to actually be less cowardly than his older self.

Interactions with Other Characters

Baby Mario

Main article: Baby Mario

Baby Mario is Baby Luigi's older twin brother and best friend. Baby Mario, with the help of Yoshi, has saved Baby Luigi a total of three times, once in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, once in Yoshi Touch & Go, and once in Yoshi's Island DS. In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, the brothers team up in the beginning of the game to rescue Baby Peach from Baby Bowser. The two have good chemistry in Mario Superstar Baseball and its sequel Mario Super Sluggers. Baby Mario was also Baby Luigi's automatic partner in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and the two go with each other to Mario and Luigi's tennis match in Mario Power Tennis.

Baby Daisy

Baby Luigi's interactions with Baby Daisy mirror the interactions of their adult counterparts. In Mario Kart Wii, there is a statue of the two holding hands and dancing together on the Daisy Circuit course. The official guide for Mario Kart Wii also states that Baby Daisy used to ride with Baby Luigi until he got frightened of her. The two also share really great chemistry with each other in Mario Super Sluggers.

Yoshi

Main article: Yoshi

In all of the instances that Baby Luigi has been kidnapped, Yoshi has been helping the other babies rescue him from the very beginning of each game. In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, all of the Yoshies of Yoshi's Island decide to help Baby Mario rescue his brother from the clutches of Kamek. In Yoshi Touch & Go, Yoshi and Baby Mario set out to rescue Baby Luigi in every level. Finally, in Yoshi's Island DS, Yoshi teams up with Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Baby Donkey Kong, Baby Wario and Baby Bowser to rescue Baby Luigi from Kamek and adult Bowser.

Other

Baby Luigi seems to get along well with other babies. Examples of this are that he shares good chemistry with Baby Peach and Baby Donkey Kong in Mario Super Sluggers. Another example is that Baby Wario, and briefly Baby Bowser, teamed up with the other babies to rescue him in Yoshi's Island DS.
