Snapjaws are rare, invulnerable piranha fish enemies that are a variant of Lockjaws. They appear only in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. A Snapjaw appears only in two levels, Slime Climb and Clapper's Cavern, both featuring it as the main enemy. Snapjaw follows the Kongs while swimming along the water surface. If Diddy and Dixie fall into the water, the Snapjaw bites them, so they have to avoid it. Snapjaws cannot be defeated, even from the invincibility effects provided by an Invincibility Barrel. However, while Diddy and Dixie are invincible, Snapjaw does not attempt to bite the Kongs, and when the Kongs into the Snapjaw while in such a state several small, orange sparks are displayed around the Snapjaw for effect. If the Kongs are idle on land, the Snapjaw swims directly below them back and forth. In Slime Climb, a Snapjaw chases Diddy and Dixie up a rapidly sinking ship, while in Clapper's Cavern, one follows them for a majority of the level. In Clapper's Cavern, the Snapjaw can often only be safely avoided by jumping on several of the Clappers along the way so that the water temporarily freezes into ice.

There is a glitch in Slime Climb that makes it possible to defeat the Snapjaw. First, Diddy and Dixie must jump into the water at the beginning, then swim to the bottom as quickly as possible, but not too low, otherwise the Kongs lose a life. The Snapjaw must then bite either of the Kongs, which causes it to be stuck. The surviving Kong can then safely continue without the Snapjaw.

Snapjaws do not appear in Donkey Kong Land 2. Instead, the game's level equivalents, Slime Climb and Clapper's Cavern, have harmful water in place of the Snapjaws. The Kongs must avoid touching the water.

In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, there are carnivorous fish enemies named Nibblas, which exhibit a similar behavior.
