The stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Yoshi's Island is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee based on Super Mario World. It is in a "valley", which is enclosed by a slope on one side and a diagonal Warp Pipe supported by two small pipes on the other. In the middle, there is a hole with Rotating Blocks above it. When the Rotating Blocks are hit, characters can fall in the hole and get KOed. There are also two groups of Rotating Blocks floating on the stage serving as additional platforms. In the background, various Super Mario World enemies can be seen. This stage reappears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In Brawl, if the stage is played on three times, the player will unlock the Virtual Console trial of Super Mario World.

Trivia

  • Although the stage's background is from the level Yoshi's Island 1, the song used in Melee and Brawl is not derived from that level.
  • In Brawl, if Pokémon Trainer is standing on a Rotating Block in this stage when it flips, he will be shown standing in midair.
  • Yoshi's Island is the only Yoshi franchise stage to not be based on an area from a game in that series, but rather one from the Mario franchise. Due to this, in Ultimate, no Mario-related music (with the exception of "Athletic Theme - Super Mario World", the original stage music in Melee) can be played in this stage.
  • This stage can be seen in the reflection on Metal Mario's trophy in Melee, if it is zoomed-in close enough.
