Gangplank Galley (Donkey Kong Country 2)
Template:Level Gangplank Galley is the third level of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Advance game, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. It is located on the Gangplank Galleon, the first world of the games.
Not only does this level bring back Zingers, but it also introduces Kaboings and Krunchas. There are hooks as well that both Diddy and Dixie Kong can grapple on to, along with tall stacks of barrels for them to climb to grab bananas, Banana Coins, and other items. In the original version of Donkey Kong Country 2, the water in the background strangely appears to be green, but in the game's remake, it takes a more grayish color. Additionally, in Donkey Kong Country 2, Invincibility Barrels make their first appearance here. However, in Donkey Kong Land 2, an Invincibility Barrel does not appear in Gangplank Galley.
In Donkey Kong Land 2, Rambi the Rhinoceros appears in this level, who is located immediately before the Star Barrel. He can help the primates ram into the many foes throughout the remaining part of the level.
Level Layout
Donkey Kong Country 2
The Kongs begin the level in front of a large pile of barrels with a Bonus Barrel on top of them and a few hooks to the right of it that hang above a Banana Bunch and the level's DK Coin. In front of the barrels, the primates can find a Kaboing and a pair of ledges with a Klomp between them. A few barrels are stacked up ahead of here that the Kongs can climb on to reach a few bananas and a DK Barrel, which is followed by a small stairway that a few Kaboings hop along. At the top of the stairs, the heroes can find a treasure chest that contains a Banana Bunch. After they travel down an additional stairway, they come up to a few barrel platforms with two Klomps on top of and in front of them. The barrels can be climbed on to aid the heroes in reaching a higher ledge with a hook above it that hangs next to the letter K.
If the primates continue from here, they come down another small stairway with a few Kaboings on it. A pair of barrels is at the bottom of the stairway that can be used to reach a trio of hooks that can be climbed to reach a DK Barrel and the bananas under it. A treasure chest that contains a red Extra Life Balloon is also under the DK Barrel, which is followed by a ledge with a Neek on top of it. The heroes can spot a trail of bananas leading upwards near the rat enemy, and a hidden Barrel Cannon is above it that can shoot them onto a tall stack of barrels. Two more tall piles of barrels are after this stack, and between each of them is a hook with a Banana Bunch or the letter O below it. If the primates do not travel along these barrels, they must instead travel through a lower part of the ship that is full of Kaboings. After they climb out of this lower area, they come up to a Neek and a barrel platform that is followed by a small ledge with a Banana Coin-containing treasure chest at the bottom of it. Once the Kongs climb a small stairway with a Klomp at the top of it, they can discover a Star Barrel.
The primates can find a large set of barrels at the bottom of a stairway located after the Star Barrel. A Kruncha and the letter N are above the barrels, while a Klomp and a DK Barrel are in front of them. After the heroes climb to the top of a nearby stairway that Neeks march along, they come up to a wide abyss that they can cross with the use of a hook floating over it. On the other side of the pit, there is a treasure chest that holds a Banana Bunch. It is followed by a large group of barrels that form two rows. A Kruncha is on each of the rows, and an additional Kruncha marches in front of the barrels. Another wide abyss follows here, and it contains two hooks that the heroes can use to cross it. They can find an Invincibility Barrel on the other side of the pit that makes them invincible for a limited amount of time when they hit it.
A stairway follows the barrel that a few Neeks march along. Two pairs of large barrels are ahead of here. While the first pair stands behind a Kruncha and holds a few bananas, the other supports a Kruncha and sits behind some bananas. A Banana Bunch is located to the right of the second barrel pair, and a small stairway with a Kaboing on it is below it. On the bottom of these stairs, the Kongs can find a large stack of barrels that hold a few Krunchas, a treasure chest that holds a red Extra Life Balloon, and two bananas. A Bonus Barrel is also above it. Once the Kongs head past the pile of barrels, they make their way up a set of stairs with a few Kaboings on them and then approach a wide abyss with some hooks above it. Once they cross the pit, they come up to the End of Level Target. If they jump on the target from the ground, they simply complete the level, but if they jump on it from a nearby hook, they complete the level and earn a prize. The Kongs can find three Banana Coins hidden beyond the End of Level Target.
Donkey Kong Land 2
At the beginning of the level, the primates find themselves in front of some large barrels that support bananas and around a single Neek. The stack of barrels to the left of the Kongs sits under some hooks that they can climb along to reach a Banana Coin and some bananas. After passing the Neek, the heroes come up a stairway with another Neek at the top of it. Two ledges are ahead of here, and a DK Barrel with some bananas under it is between the ledges. Once they make their way down the second ledge, they come up to some large barrels that they can jump on to reach a few bananas and the letter K. A smaller barrel that the Kongs can carry and a Neek are in front of these large barrels, which are followed by another Neek and a Klomp.
Two additional Neeks are at the top of a stairway ahead of here, and they are followed by a small pit with an Extra Life Balloon in it. The heroes can find a ledge ahead of here, along with a Neek and a thin stack of barrels with a Banana Bunch above it. If they travel farther ahead, they find a large ledge with a hook to the top-right of it. Instead of dropping down the ledge to access the next area, they can climb on the hook and jump to a banana trail near it that is located under the letter O. At the bottom of the trail, the heroes can find more barrels piled up and another trail of bananas that lead off of the large barrels, where a Kruncha and a wide abyss are located. Three hooks are in the pit that can be used to cross. Once they pass over the abyss, the Kongs discover an Extra Life Balloon and a stairway leading to a Neek and a tall stack of barrels. An Animal Barrel is near here, and if they enter it, they are turned into Rambi. A Neek and the level's Star Barrel are also in this area.
Two ledges are ahead of here, and when the Kongs climb it, they approach a few Neeks and a DK Barrel that floats next to a group of four large barrels with bananas on it. Another large barrel with a single banana on it is next to them. There are two more ledges after here that lead them down to a lower area with a treasure chest that contains a Banana Bunch, a thin stack of barrels with the letter N above it, and a Kaboing. Once they head up a stairway near here, they reach a Neek and a group of two large barrels placed next to each other. A Barrel Cannon is next to these barrels that can shoot the primates to a higher section of the ship, where there is a Banana Coin and a long, flat pathway with some Neeks and bananas on it. At the end of this flat area, the Kongs can find a ledge that drops them into a slightly lower area with a TNT Barrel and a Kruncha in it.
If they drop down the ledge ahead of here, the discover a DK Barrel and an additional ledge that leads them to a Kaboing and a No Animal Sign, which makes Rambi transform back into the primates if he has been freed from his Animal Barrel. A wide gap with four hooks above it is ahead of here. They must use the hooks to cross and reach a long platform with two Neeks and a Kruncha on it. They can also use the hooks to access a hidden Barrel Cannon that is able to blast them to the letter G and onto a hook high above a pit just ahead of here. If they drop down from here, they grab a Banana Coin and then grab onto a hook above the pit. With the use of a few more hooks, the primates can cross the remaining part of the pit, which contains the level's DK Coin that is hidden above a Barrel Cannon. Once the primates cross the pit, they approach two stairways with Neeks walking along them. At the top of the stairs, they can find a crate, a few bananas, and a pair of Krunchas. After they cross a small pit ahead of here, they reach a Banana Bunch and a spring that can bounce them out of the level successfully.
Secrets
Donkey Kong Country 2
K-O-N-G Letters
- K: The letter K floats next to the first hook in the level.
- O: After the Kongs pass the second DK Barrel in the level, they can find a trail of bananas near a tall stack of barrels. Using their Team-up move, they can throw one another above the bananas and into a hidden Barrel Cannon that can blast them onto the tall stack of barrels. A few more piles of barrels are ahead that the primates can jump along to find a Banana Bunch, a Banana Coin, and the letter O.
- N: The letter N hovers above a pile of barrels located near the third DK Barrel in the level.
- G: Shortly after passing the Invincibility Barrel found near the end of the level, the primates reach a treasure chest that they can throw at an enemy to break. It contains the letter G.
Bonus Levels
- The first Bonus Level is located at the beginning of the level. The Kongs must climb to the top of the pile of barrels right next to the start of the level and jump into a Bonus Barrel located above the highest barrel, which sends them to a Bonus Level when entered. Here, they need to throw several treasure chests at a red Zinger to break them open. They have only 10 seconds to find which one contains the Kremkoin. Once they break the correct one, they can grab the special coin with the remaining time.
- The second Bonus Barrel is near the end of the level. After the primates cross the big gap with the two hooks over it, they must hit a nearby Invincibility Barrel, and then go to a huge pile of barrels with Krushas on them. The Kongs must make their way up, destroying every enemy in their path with their limited invincibility powers, and soon jump into the Bonus Barrel at the top of the area. They can also reach this Bonus Barrel with the use of their Team-up move. The Bonus Barrel transports them into a Bonus Level, where they must swing hook-to-hook to cross a wide pit until they reach the Kremkoin. They have only 15 seconds to collect the item.
DK Coin
- The DK Coin is near the first Bonus Level. From where the barrel leading to it is, the Dixie Kong must hover to the right with her Helicopter Twirl to grab onto a hook in the air. As she swings along some hooks to the right of this, she comes up to the coin. Diddy Kong can also reach this DK Coin in the Game Boy Advance version if he uses his roll-jump ability.
Warp Barrel
- The Kongs should use their Team-up move to the right of the first Bonus Barrel to reach a Warp Barrel that is hidden above it. The barrel sends them to Bonus Level, where they can find several bananas in a ship-themed area. If they walk through the doorway to the right of the bananas, they are taken out of the bonus and onto a hook located immediately before the End of Level Target.
Golden Feather (Game Boy Advance version only)
- The level's Golden Feather is under the ship. To get there, the Kongs must go to the first gap in the level and have Dixie hover down to the left, where can find a barrel. It can shoot the primates through the inside of the ship, where they grab three Banana Coins, some bananas, and the feather.
Donkey Kong Land 2
K-O-N-G Letters
- K: Shortly after the first DK Barrel, the Kongs find a stack of barrel with the letter K next to it high in the air.
- O: Shortly before the Star Barrel, the primates approach a large ledge that they can drop down to reach a lower area. Instead of dropping down here, they should grab onto a hook to the top-right of the ledge. The letter O and a trail of bananas are next to the hook.
- N: After the primates pass the first treasure chest from the Star Barrel, they come up to a thin stack of barrels with the letter N above it.
- G: When the Kongs reach the first pit from the Star Barrel, which they must cross with hooks, they can find a hidden Barrel Cannon at the top of the area. If they jump into this barrel, they are shot to the letter G and onto a hook.
Bonus Level
- Unlike other Bonus Levels, the first Bonus Level grants the Kongs an easy shortcut through the level, instead of a Kremkoin. Therefore, its discovery is not required to beat the game 100%. To find it, the Kongs must go backwards from the start of the level and jump on a pile of barrels. A hook is nearby, which they must grab onto. After jumping to the following hook, Dixie Kong should be used to flutter in the air, following the path of bananas. Eventually, she should reach a hidden Bonus Barrel. Here, the primates can simply grab some bananas and head out. They should then end up at the spring leading out of the level.
- To find the second Bonus Level, the Kongs must start from the end of the level and go backwards to the last set of hooks over an abyss. If they drop down from the hook on the far left side, they should land right into the Bonus Barrel. There, the Kongs must defeat six enemies, including Neeks and Kremlings, in a ship-themed area. If all of the baddies are defeated within 20 seconds, the heroes are awarded with another Kremkoin to grab with the remaining time.
DK Coin
- Just as for the second Bonus Level, the Kongs must start from the end of the level, and then go backwards to the last set of hooks over a large abyss. If they go to the hook second to the right and drop down, they fall on the DK Coin, which hovers over a Barrel Cannon that can shoot them up to a hook.
