Flitters, also referred to as Dragonflies,[1] are large, blue dragonfly enemies which first appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.
History
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Flitters are basic, airborne enemies which Diddy and Dixie Kong can easily defeat by either jumping on it, throwing a projectile at it, or while using an Invincibility Barrel. Flitters always remain afloat in the air; some Flitters remain in their current position, other ones fly endlessly to the left, and few even circle around an item they are guarding. Flitters act the same as Neckys from Donkey Kong Country and Hogwashes from Donkey Kong Land.
There are a few instances where a couple of Flitters are sorted in a long line, such as at the end of Bramble Scramble, or in a "Destroy Them All!" Bonus Area challenge like in Topsail Trouble. The Kongs can bounce on these Flitters to cross gaps that are usually unable to do by themselves.
Flitters appear in the following levels:
- Topsail Trouble
- Kannon's Klaim
- Red-Hot Ride
- Barrel Bayou
- Krockhead Klamber
- Rattle Battle
- Slime Climb
- Bramble Blast
- Target Terror
- Bramble Scramble
- Mudhole Marsh
- Ghostly Grove
- Gusty Glade (Bonus Level only)
- Windy Well (Bonus Level only)
- Clapper's Cavern
- Screech's Sprint
- Jungle Jinx
- Black Ice Battle
- Fiery Furnace
- Animal Antics
Donkey Kong Land 2
Flitters reappear in Donkey Kong Land 2, behaving identically as in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. They appear in the following levels:
- Topsail Trouble
- Redhot Ride
- Squawks's Shaft
- Barrel Bayou
- Krockhead Klamber
- Rattle Battle
- Slime Climb
- Hornet Hole
- Target Terror
- Bramble Blast
- Bramble Scramble
- Mudhole Marsh
- Rambi Rumble
- Krazy Koaster
- Parrot Chute Panic
- Web Woods
- Clapper's Cavern
- Jungle Jinx
- Fiery Furnace
- Klobber Karnage
- Animal Antics
DK series
In DK: King of Swing and DK: Jungle Climber, a charge attack or a Going Bananas move can defeat a Flitter, as jumping on it is ineffective.

- Instruction manual: Flitter hover in many locations. Bouncing off these dragonflies is a useful means of reaching hidden areas, but be careful![2]
