Shadow (character)

Template:Character-infobox Shadow the Hedgehog is a prominent anti-hero and the rival of Sonic the Hedgehog in the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games like Wario is to Mario in the Mario series. He was created to be the ultimate life-form by Dr. Eggman's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. Shadow's primary abilities are his supersonic speed and ability to use Chaos Control to manipulate time and space.

Shadow is a playable character in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. He's on Sonic's team. His character type is Speed, equaling him with Sonic but he has higher stats than Sonic in other events. In Dream Fencing, his special move is to glow gold and charge forward with multiple stabs of his epéé. His Dream Table Tennis move is to glow gold, jump up and twirl vertically, land, suck in thousand of gold lines and fire the ball super fast at the opponent. Shadow has the lowest level stamina among all the characters.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

Shadow also appeared in the sequel, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. He appeared as a speed character, like in the predecessor. However, unlike with the prequel, Shadow is slightly slower than Sonic, but he has the strongest acceleration abilities in the game.

Super Smash Bros. series

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Shadow appears as an unlockable Assist Trophy character. He uses his Chaos Control to slow down time. He is unlocked by simply unlocking Sonic himself.

Like Sonic, Shadow is an extremely fast hedgehog that can give his more famous blue rival a run for his money in most Speed events. Additionally, his accuracy will help give him a leg up in the events like the archery and fencing.

Personality

Shadow is confident, serious, has a strong sense of purpose and pursues his goals by any means necessary. He likes to act as if he doesn’t particularly care about the well-being of others, but in reality, it’s something he can’t ignore very well.

Besides differences in colors and shoes, Shadow is the spitting image of Sonic, matching his agility and speed. And ironically, personality-wise, Sonic and Shadow are in many ways almost exact opposites. Sonic does pure good under any circumstance, has a positive attitude, and enjoys interacting with people. While Shadow does good as well, his interpretation of good is considerably more altered by his own opinion and the actual good of what he’s doing more than how moral it is (like using brutal force), he generally has a negative or serious attitude, and prefers to work alone and stay distant from people.

The biggest difference between them is probably that Shadow pushes kindness away whenever he receives it, most likely because he either does not know how to react to it or doesn’t want anyone to see him express his emotions. Because of this, Shadow is very reserved in whatever he does and prefers not to express himself, talk about himself, what he’s thinking, or even try to make friends.

Because of these factors, Shadow remains side-less and is not defined as either good or evil. However, he seems to lean slightly more towards hero, as he would most likely choose Sonic’s side over Eggman, despite their numerous differences, and since Gerald Robotnik created him to be the protector of the world. Shadow currently is an special agent of the Guardian Unit of Nations (or "GUN"), a shoot-first-think-later type military agency.
