“Meet my peeps, Gonzales! I told you we were gonna square off, and now it's ON!”
KP Pete, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

KP Pete, better known by his pseudonym of King K, is a KP Koopa who fights at the Glitz Pit in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. He leads the fighting group called the "KP Koopas", a.k.a. the "Shell Machines of Doom".

He befriended Mario when he first entered the Glitz Pit and taught him the ways of the place. Mario easily beat him in battle as he was the second opponent he faced; later, when Mario had to replay the Glitz Pit, he beat King K's team again. As Mario rose to the top of the rankings King K told Mario he was going to retire after one last battle for safety reasons. Unfortunately after that last battle he ran into Grubba while he was powering up. Grubba absorbed his power and threw him under a block. When Mario found him, King K could hardly talk, but he managed to warn Mario about Grubba before falling silent. It was believed that he died but he was seen with everyone else after Grubba was defeated, and said goodbye to Mario.

Trivia

  • On the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door website depicts what would appear to be King K (who simply states that his name is "K.P.") as a trash-talking red-shelled Koopa Troopa.
  • He has a crush on "The cutie at the watering hole."
  • King K talks like an African American stereotype.
  • Strangely, he is not shown among those at Glitzville while Mario is fighting the Shadow Queen. However, his voice can be heard when the scene cuts back to the battle. Shellshock is present, though, and talks like King K, so it is likely that it was intended to be him, but the sprites were mixed up.
