Tearaway Toboggan is the twenty-second level in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and the second level of K3. Throughout the level, Dixie and Kiddy ride in a toboggan moving at high speed, making it hard to maneuver. Along the way, the Kongs encounter pitfalls and small, snow-covered houses. Buzzes are a common enemy, and the Kongs can jump their toboggan on them for a height boost.

Layout[edit]

When the level begins, the heroes will get in a Barrel Cannon and blast over a large abyss into the toboggan. The toboggan will then begin to slide along the icy pathway, rushing down a large hill. After treading around a snow-capped house, the monkeys will ride up another hill and cross a few small gaps. Poorly timed jumps can result in falling into one of the gaps at this point. Heading on, they will jump over another rooftop and ride up and down several slopes. On the way, they will find a few Buzzes in their path, which they can easily jump over with well-timed jumps. After hopping over another snow-covered house, the Kongs will grab the letter K and soon dodge some Skiddas on the bumpy pathway. This pathway is followed by a small gap, and once the monkeys cross it, they will head down another hill. At the end of this hill will be another gap to cross. After getting over the gap, the apes will ride up another bumpy slope and travel to a small house. The heroes should ride over its roof to get around it. After passing two more gaps along the rest of the way, the group will head up and down a small hill to encounter the next gap. Once they cross it, they will travel over more of the icy pathway, jumping over another house and dodging a few Skiddas. They will also find a Knik-Knak above a small alcove between the snow. Jumping on this enemy will grant the monkeys will an extra life. Eventually, the heroes will tread up two large hills to find the Star Barrel.

About halfway into the level, the pathway will become even bumpier, and the Kongs will slide down a large hill. Dodging a Knik-Knak above a small alcove, they will soon come up to a snow bound house. They may choose to go over or around this house, though going over would be the better choice, as a trail of bananas fills the area. Hopping out of a long abyss after this will take the monkeys up a small hill. At the top of this hill, Kiddy and Dixie will find the letter N. Continuing through the level, they will cross another small alcove to ride down a large hill. The hill will lead them into an alcove with two Skiddas, so they will need to jump out quickly to stay safe. Farther on, they will pass another long alcove like the one before, filled with a total of three Skiddas. If the monkeys manage to pass this gap, they will ride over to another house. Heading over its snow covered roof, they will make their way over another house, and them ride up a large hill. The hill will drop the Kongs at its highest point, and they will quickly speed through the area. Eventually, they will find a large abyss in front of them. If they jump before falling, they should land into a barrel, which will free them from the toboggan and send them to an area with the flagpole. Raising the pole's flag will end the level.

This causes the Steel Barrel to bounce into Koin from behind and defeat him.

Bonus Levels[edit]

Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong in the first Bonus Level of Tearaway Toboggan in the Game Boy Advance remake The Kongs ride a Toboggan in the second Bonus Level of Tearaway Toboggan
The first and second Bonus Levels respectively

Tearaway Toboggan has two Bonus Levels, listed by type:

  • Bash the Baddies!: At the start, the Kongs must jump into a spinning Barrel Cannon above a red Buzz. Instead of blasting into the toboggan, they must blast to the bottom-right corner to be caught into a Bonus Barrel. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have 15 seconds to defeat three Knik-Knaks in the air. They can only defeat the Knik-Knaks by using a Team-up throw. After they defeat the enemies, the Bonus Coin appears to the right.
  • Collect the Stars!: Right after the letter G, the Kongs go near two small houses surrounded by a few green Buzzes. Under the second house is a green Buzz adjacent to a Bonus Barrel. On the house to the left of this house, the Kongs must perform a well timed jump to go between two green Buzzes. They must successfully pass through the Buzzes and enter the Bonus Barrel. In the Game Boy Advance remake, a Buzz does not appear in front of the Bonus Barrel. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have 10 seconds to ride up and down hills and rooftops in their toboggan and grab 50 stars along the way. Once the Kongs collect every star, the Bonus Coin appears at the end.
