Probably should be a Nvidia Shield changes section on there somewhere, idk. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 01:36, November 19, 2020 (EST) | :::::::It's already in the "Super Mario Galaxy" changes section. Big Boss Bertha
Hi, may I ask why you're so against merging Boss Bass with Big Cheep Cheep, and even more puzzling, disagree with the merging of Boss Bass and Big Bertha, which share graphics and names with each other and are just an enlarged form of Cheep Cheep, which had 5 distinct behaviors in SMB3 (significantly more than the 2 different behaviors displayed by them) and were only given distinct names in a long-out-of-date strategy guide from 30 years ago, particularly given the other names for the "big" enemies it gave have been similarly overwritten? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:08, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
- Having the same Japanese name in the same game (as is the case for Boss Bass and Big Bertha) is not only significant, it's an undeniable smoking gun. They literally share a bio and sprites, and have even less difference between the two of them than the Cheeps in SMB3. As for Cheep Chomp, that's a bit more complicated; the "Pukupuku" in SM64 was likely intended as a Blurp, hence the appearance, while Bubba (Bakubaku) was derived from it. If it were intended as a type of Cheep Cheep then, they would more likely have named it something like "Pakkun Puku" or something like that. Additionally, Boss Bass's design is used by normal Cheeps when they jump in SMW2YI and in Parachute, meaning the "squinty" look isn't unique to them. They are literally just a large Cheep Cheep, like the "Blurps" in YS that act like Boss Bass but look just like a scaled-up Cheep. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:07, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
- Address my points, please. It comes off like you're deliberately dodging the question, which is ultra rude. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:29, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
- You never addressed how the same name is within the same game (which is significant), how they have the same artwork and bio, or (most importantly) the "behavioral difference" is irrelevant because normal Cheeps in SMB3 have even more behavioral differences, yet they aren't split, and two of the five behaviors were enlarged to make Boss Bass and Big Bertha. There is too much alike to not have them merged. Keeping them split would be like splitting up the Chargin' Chucks, despite two behaviors being unnamed. Anyways, I'm not making the proposal now, because 1) I'm very busy at the moment due to midterms with me taking 6 different classes this semester, and 2) I want LTL to be around because he's good at covering my back with these. Regardless, the proposal ain't about Bass with Bertha; they're already merged as they should be. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:17, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
- Don't worry, I'm a little stressed myself from a certain Zelda-related incident (that I shall say no more about). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:42, November 2, 2019 (EDT)
- Large-sized generic Cheeps have acted as Boss Bass in early Mario Party games as well as Parachute. Heck, that's what the YS Blurps are. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:02, November 3, 2019 (EST)
- Most things are spinoffs; the Super Mario series had only 3 Nintendo EAD-developed games between SMB3 and NSMB. In fact, one of those games (Sunshine) had a "normal" Cheep that swam around and attempts (unsuccessfully) to eat Mario. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:37, November 3, 2019 (EST)
- They are. I'm saying the sample size you are demanding is far too small. Additionally, in SMW2, when normal Cheeps jump in an arc, they take the "large mouth and squinty eyes" appearance of Boss Bass. SM64DS conflated a totally different-but-similar enemy with the SM64 enemy, but unlike with Ukiki, that got quickly sorted out by leaving the appearance and behavior with Cheep Chomp and making Boss Bass a more generic-acting Cheep. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:38, November 3, 2019 (EST)
- Furthermore, I fail to see how Yoshi's Story is a spinoff; its content and aesthetic continues to influence the Mario franchise to this day. It's where Yoshis got their "non-mount" anatomy, after all. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:04, November 3, 2019 (EST)
- One more point: Big Bertha (Boss Bass underwater) is nonaggressive; just like the NSMB versions of Big Cheep Cheep, which are additionally found underwater. The Big Bertha acts as a larger version of SMB3's underwater (and thus, green) Cheep Cheeps, as such simply moving back and forth, with the Baby Cheep existing for no other purpose to provide more "reach." In the NSMB games, underwater Cheeps (and thus, Big Cheeps) now move forever forward, and as such no more "reach" can be gained. On the flipside, Boss Bass's role of "giant counterpart for jumping Cheep" has gone to Spike Bass and later Porcupuffer; itself the "giant Cheep" from SMW. Basically, it doesn't go back to its old behavior because a less-lethal creature currently occupies that niche. (Also, you could probably read walls of text on here better without that inane background, just sayin') Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:10, November 4, 2019 (EST)
- Again, the extra reach is no longer necessary, so the extra modeling is eschewed. Regardless, regarding amount of behaviors depending on game, Porcupuffer's had the same amount in platforming games, and Boss Bass/big Blurp/Mega Cheep-Cheep/Big Cheep Cheep has always been designed as simply an enlarged Cheep Cheep, even back in SMB3. I work with SMB3 sprites, and it's really just a "blurriness-fixed" version of an enlarged Cheep sprite from the game, with the gaping mouth being to feasibly fit Super Mario in it. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:29, November 4, 2019 (EST)
- Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that in NSMBW and/or NSMBU, where Big Cheep Cheep is only half again as large as normal Cheep Cheep, it isn't textually differentiated from "normal" Cheep Cheep, thus putting it situationally on the same level as the Mario Party 1-3 examples. And at this point, Mario Party is hardly a "spinoff" anymore due to the amount and regularity of the entries. And while yes, it's true that the same JP name dos automatically mean a merge (hence why I made a new article for Rotten Mushroom), the genericness of the word "big" makes it more clear-cut, as the other "big" enemies of the era also share that. Big Piranha Plant has a totally different behavior between SMB3 and NSMB as well, and wouldn't be piped in a NSMB game until U. The main exception to the "big" thing is the Wiggler, but that had the typical later one in the data unused alongside it, and was "kyodai" after the old "kyodai" had become "dai." (and yes I'm up really frackin' late, it's 3 in the morning here) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:08, November 4, 2019 (EST)
- For now, I'm going to follow LTL's advice and sit on it until further still evidence comes up, instead working on less....controversial proposals. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:32, November 4, 2019 (EST)

Poem
Here's another poem I wrote called "Mario and Luigi." What do you think of this one?
Mario and Luigi
Are the heroes of a land.
In the Mushroom Kingdom,
Princess Peach is in their hands.
Toad and Yoshi are also there
And sometimes help the Mario Bros.
But after they stop a capture,
King Bowser just does another. Dwhitney (talk) 13:26, November 12, 2019 (EST)
- Pretty good, except "Bros." and "another" don't really rhyme. If "Bros." was "Brothers", that would work a little better. 15:13, November 12, 2019 (EST)
Sneed
Ftr, the edit you reverted is a Simpsons joke. Niiue - Who has lost his tail? 20:00, November 14, 2019 (EST)
G&WG series appearances
Again, Baby Yoshis don't appear in the Modern version of Fire. The Yoshis may be smaller than Mario and Luigi, but the G&WG 4 cast credits say "Yoshi" under Fire and not "Baby Yoshi." Also, the Yoshi sprite looks a little different from the Baby Yoshi sprite, in my opinion. For these reasons, I'd like to remove the Fire Baby Yoshi appearance info from the Baby Yoshi article, but I'd also like to remove the Fire Yoshi image from the Baby Yoshi article. What do you think? Dwhitney (talk) 14:14, November 16, 2019 (EST)
RE:Rabbit
I respectfully believe you're thinking too hard about this. The Rabbits in Super Mario 64 DS are never actually given a name to refer to, they're just generic "species", so I'm not sure what you mean by that point. (T|C) 17:24, November 20, 2019 (EST)
- If you wish to move it back, then by all means go ahead, but the fact remains that I'm still not sure how exactly it would cause confusion. I don't know, maybe we need a third opinion on this? (T|C) 17:36, November 20, 2019 (EST)
- Same can be said about the entities with "character" as an identifier for Mario Party Advance. "Character" always refers to specific unique entities, not an entire species. Also how are the rabbits in Odyssey characters? They don't even talk, aside from the Broodals and M. Broode. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:37, November 20, 2019 (EST)
Spiked Ball
Spiked Ball is most recently spelled "spiked ball," as can be seen at about 3:20:26 in this video. Shouldn't the article be renamed? Dwhitney (talk) 22:54, November 23, 2019 (EST)
- Considering it's thrown by an Egg Pawn and not a Mario enemy, I'm going to say no, though the info can be added to the article. Unless there is something else that shows a more direct Mario connection. 23:22, November 23, 2019 (EST)

About the Trivia...
Hey, Alex. About the trivia... what's wrong with it? It is interesting to note that Dark Pit debuted before Dark Samus as a playable character in the Smash series whereas Samus debuted before Pit in the same capacity. Unless that's a tidbit of info that doesn't count as trivia? 😕 MarioManiac1981 (talk) 18:23, December 2, 2019 (EST)
Toadette Link
No, it is Toadette's color. I'm skeptical about the "reference to Four Swords" thing. I think that they just happen to look similar because the characters share similar visually-appealing colors, not to mention how Purple Link was nixed from TFH. Also, despite what GMG said, this is purple and looks like purple. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:01, December 6, 2019 (EST)
No one liked Tri Force Heroes anyway.Okay, Purple Link's purple is darker than I remember it being. I'll wait and see what Gamermakerguy says first before moving it back, to avoid any potential edit war. 23:04, December 6, 2019 (EST)- If I recall correctly, FSA had the worst sales of any of the "main series" Zelda games. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:11, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- Maybe, but I wouldn't say forgettable. It's an enjoyable game, we break it out every now and then. Yeah, the GBA is a bit of a restriction, so maybe a Switch rerelease like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, that was set up similarly, would help. 17:20, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- Not "forgettable" so much as "already forgotten." Though to be fair, it was never really in the public eye to begin with, unlike TWW or TP. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's just a hassle to play. Also, clashing styles and sprite filtering are ugly and make accurate external assemblies pretty much impossible, but that's a different issue entirely. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:31, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- Not entirely sure what you mean by "clashing styles", I didn't have any problem with the art and moving between different themes. It all worked really well for me. 20:37, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- As a spriter, looking at different pixel sizes superimposed over each other without a trace of irony is pretty much the worst thing ever. ALttP, TWW, and whatever Metroid-esque style was going on with Frostare don't mesh well at all. Also, there's the same reason I despise Yoshi's Story's graphics, due to being distorted by in-engine factors to heck and back, which makes them blurry and impossible to reproduce. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:13, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- I know some sprites are higher quality than the rest, namely the bosses. I don't remember any "superimposed" sprites, but I never really took a look at how sprites were handled internally, I just... played the game and it worked. That's all that mattered to me. Though I can tell how some things worked just by looking at them.
- And I totally forgot the blue Giant Dodongo was a thing until I looked at the sprites on TSR just now and wow that thing looks weird O.o 21:46, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- Yeah that one is pure laziness for the up-facing sprites. Poor editing from the down-facing ones and a lot of what we call banding and pillowshading. But notice how the pixels making up the Links are kinda blurry around the outline in-game? That's in-engine distortion as a poor attempt to make them look smooth. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:56, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- Yeah, I saw your comment there XD I actually never noticed that. Even looking at the spritesheet on TSR I couldn't tell. They do look blurry when they are brought closer to the screen, but that's expected. 21:59, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- The TSR ones are the raw, pre-filter sprites. The ones in-game are the ones that are tweaked with. Also look at Yoshi's Story sheets and see their individual parts of varying sizes. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:03, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- Yeah, I've seen the Yoshi's Story ones before. They're kind of odd, but since I've never played Yoshi's Story, I don't have a basis for comparison (and looking up videos on it is lame :P). 22:14, December 7, 2019 (EST)
- I just don't like sprite filtering/resizing/distortion/rotating. It always looks off. It can make sense for storage reasons (like when they were just starting using it extensively in SMW2, which actually did it a lot better than most examples by thickening outlines), but more often than not it comes off as lazy. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:20, December 7, 2019 (EST)

Punctuation and reference tags
LinkTheLefty and I appear to have another disagreement, this time about punctuation placed in reference tags. On Wikipedia, commas and periods are placed before reference tags, which is why I made it so in this edit. But LinkTheLefty reverted my edit twice. What do you admins prefer about this: Should commas and periods go before reference tags or after? Dwhitney (talk) 01:38, December 31, 2019 (EST)
- As a matter of fact, as LTL has told me, the current rule is "first come first serve" for that, and the tragically-deceased admin Walkazo preferred the ref-before-punctuation way, so until an actual proposal on the matter is enacted, he's going to do that out of respect for her. At least, if I remember correctly. Either way, you should talk to him, not the admins. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:57, December 31, 2019 (EST)
- The examples we have on MarioWiki:Citations show the reference before punctuation, which is what I prefer, because, as I understand it, the reference is part of the information within the sentence. But yeah, it doesn't really matter either way, it's less of a minor thing to correct than a typo. 10:11, December 31, 2019 (EST)

Though, as mentioned on the satellite/Guruguri talk page, some of the current generic names might not even be entirely accurate - satellite and spook head probably should have been "sharp satellite" and "floating spook head", for instance. Super Mario Encyclopedia complicates it because Dark Horse took names like the former from us before we had the full quote, and in the interest of reducing confusion, I also supported the status quo option. I disagreed with using all generic names since, as I've said before, most of the lowercase names seem like they were most likely just quick descriptors that the writers came up on the spot rather than official Nintendo of America names. They're hardly if ever reused in an explicit context. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:45, January 15, 2020 (EST)
Dated protection
Hi, is it okay if Vivian is unprotected? The indefinite semi-protection was left over from vandalism in late 2015, and since there hasn't been any vandalism since, I feel that it might be okay to unprotect the article for that reason. (T|C) 14:11, January 15, 2020 (EST)
- Normally, I would. However, Vivian could easily become a target for transphobic anons or transgenderism activists if left unprotected (which is one of the reasons it was protected in the first place), so I will talk this over with the others and see what happens. 14:51, January 15, 2020 (EST)
- On top of that, the talk page was just recently subjected to a bout of vandalism not a few days ago - if anything, I would ask that the protection be extended there and applied to only allow confirmed users. -- Lord G. matters. 21:04, January 15, 2020 (EST)
- Wow, that vandalism even got Super Mario Bros. to edit again for the first time in two years.
- Pretty much the entirety of the talk page is based on her gender, so protecting the talk page isn't going to solve anything as that's likely going to remain the focus even among auto-confirmed users. Even so, the random vandal was also the first vandal that talk page has had in four years, and the first edit in general in nearly half a year, so it would need more consistent activity before it gets protected (not that I want that to happen). 22:08, January 15, 2020 (EST)
- ...Okay, you do have a point. I guess then Lanky Kong would be more deserving of unprotection...? (T|C) 23:03, January 15, 2020 (EST)

Sentence structure
This phrase on Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia doesn't make sense to me: "...the description of [a Pipe Cannon] and as the rest of the Super Mario Land enemies use a corruption of the original names from Nintendo Power," particularly the phrase "the description of it and as the rest of the Super Mario Land enemies." Can you clarify what this is saying? Dwhitney (talk) 01:21, January 21, 2020 (EST)
- I think what it means is the Encyclopedia used the names from Nintendo Power, but modified them a bit. afaik, Nintendo Power has only used "Pipe Cannon", but an alternate name for Bullet Biff is Gina, so SMBE put them together it seems. Which is odd, as Bullet Biff never once went under "Gina" on the wiki (it was created under Gira, but moved in 2011). The wiki never once called the blaster itself Gina Cannon since I put the Pipe Cannon name on the page in 2017. 01:29, January 21, 2020 (EST)
- Does the phrase "and as the rest of the Super Mario Land enemies" by any chance mean the SMBE uses the enemies' original names from Nintendo Power in their descriptions? I just want to word that phrase better. Dwhitney (talk) 01:37, January 21, 2020 (EST)
- I don't have the book, and we don't have too many images of the SML descriptions (looks like just that one, actually), so I can't say for certain. You might want to check with someone with the book, I think LinkTheLefty (talk) and Mister Wu (talk) have it. 01:42, January 21, 2020 (EST)

Article titles
The book title New Super Mario Bros. Wii Intermediate / Advanced Piano Solos is italicized in the first paragraph, but the article title isn't. Shouldn't the article title be italicized? Dwhitney (talk) 23:16, January 26, 2020 (EST)
The phrase "Yoshi Egg" is in Mario Party 7, as can be seen at about 18:24 in this video. Though I'm not sure it's the most recent name, I wonder if the Yoshi's Egg article should be moved back to "Yoshi Egg." Dwhitney (talk) 22:10, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
- I don't know why the citations show older games for the title we use, but "Yoshi's Egg" is the most recent as of Mario Kart Tour from what our article says. 22:14, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
Citations
If I remember correctly, Obsessive Mario Fan requested a citation be added for this statement on the Mario page: "Officially, however, Nintendo producers have stated that Mario's biography is kept simple in order to make the character versatile and reusable in many different games and situations." Where do you think I might find a source for this? Dwhitney (talk) 17:23, January 30, 2020 (EST)
- Well, it's pretty common Nintendo knowledge that Miyamoto designed Mario to be able to do pretty much anything. Where that was said, though, I don't remember. You can try the Iwata Asks about spin-off Mario titles, but that's the best that comes to mind. 19:21, January 30, 2020 (EST)

Hello,
Is it possible to restore deleted revisions on files? If so, could you restore an un-optimized 1,946 × 2,674 revision of File:Luigi - New Super Mario Bros U.png? Regarding mobile vs. immobile Bowser Statues
Thing is, they aren't the only example of an enemy that can be mobile or immobile. Ptooies and Nipper Plants in SMB3 had versions stuck in one place and ones that moved around, for example. That's the only functional difference between the statues as well. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:33, February 16, 2020 (EST)
- Yeah, but those are still functionally the same enemy. The Gold Statues can damage the Brothers upon direct contact, the regular statues, afaik, do not. The regular statues fire lasers or fire breath, while the Gold Statues do not. My concern isn't that they are both Bowser statues, it's that they are both Bowser statues that do two different things. The ending to Super Mario World unfortunately does not include either in the enemy cast role, so that doesn't help any.
- And I'm not entirely clear on your "Regardless, they each act like their originator." statement. Doesn't that just mean they both act how I described? 00:08, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- Don't gold Bowser Statues shoot fire too? I seem to remember them doing so? Regardless, again, the only source to differentiate them also differentiates Troopa colors. And like them, they are the same thing with a different palette applied. Heck, it's not even the game's "gold" palette, it's the Monty Mole beige. The same source is also what split out some of the different Chargin' Chucks with their even-more-different behavior. And we've never had those split. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:19, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- ...I honestly don't remember if they shoot fire. I'm just going off of what the wiki says right now. I'll see if I can quickly play through Super Mario World to find that out.
- (Also, I think the Koopa Troopas should definitely be split, but that's a matter for another day.) 00:23, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- OK, well what about things like SML2 where the art shows a different type from the typical action? Or SMW2 where they don't act different at all? Or SMW, NSMB, and NSMBW which have Paratroopas that use the other colors' "typical" behavior? Or the audience members you can't see the shells? Or games like Mario's Time Machine NES where they're orange? Also, pretty sure SMW gray Bowser statues don't hurt to jump on. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:25, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- I said the Koopa Troopa thing is a matter for another day.
- Not sure about World. Currently trying to speed run my way to a level with them in it. 00:28, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- Pretty sure it's only one path in Front Door. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:31, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- ...Yeah, had a feeling it'd be at the very end. I'll check tomorrow. 00:34, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- I just looked at a video of the SMA4 level and it had the gold ones never fire anything on-screen at least, but he happily lands on a gray one and has no suffering of any sort inflicted upon him. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:43, February 17, 2020 (EST)

- Gonna interject a bit and confirm that in all my years of playing the GBA port, none of the gold ones have ever shot fire. Same for all footage I've seen of the base game, too. -- Lord G. matters. 01:08, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- Well, there ya go. I'm going to stand by my point, it's the differences that matter to me. The name origin may be sketchy, but it's better than "Bowser Statue (gold)". 01:50, February 17, 2020 (EST)
- And again, I direct you to Chargin' Chuck, which had two projectile-launching versions that that guide split, yet we have merged. As an additional note, we have "obstacle" Bowser statues merged with identical "object" Bowser statues, particularly for, say, Super Mario Galaxy 2, so the "spits something or doesn't" distinction also doesn't hold up. And splitting those isn't the answer either, as they are how the developers chose to interpret the base "Bowser Statue" object. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:02, February 17, 2020 (EST)

Who has more?
Wario is said to have a whole lot of coins. But considering how many coins Mario has collected throughout the games, I wonder: Who do you think has more coins? And what do you think Mario does with all his coins?
Though this is a different subject, I thought about bringing it up: I played as Wario in one grand prix in Mario Kart 7 last night and lost on the last track, but Wario said, "Oh, mama mia!" in such a way that I felt somewhat bad for him. That's odd since I don't really like him. Dwhitney (talk) 14:26, February 18, 2020 (EST)
- Considering just the number of adventures alone, Mario would have more Coins, even without taking New Super Mario Bros. 2 into consideration. If you include spin-offs, it could go either way, as you can get a lot of Coins in Mario Party.
- And yeah, natural to feel bad for someone losing. 15:06, February 18, 2020 (EST)

Hello!
I just came home from school, how are you? FireyYoshi (talk)
Do you mind?
Hey Alex, i know if i'm being off-topic compared to this wiki, but i would like to arrange a heart to heart talk with you, because it's important. When i was active on the Smash Wiki and its Discord server, i was talking with you about Kirby's n-air before being blocked on the wiki and expelled from the server. I want to say i'm sorry for this mess, but if you want to know the truth, here's the data for the clean hit: it deals 10% base damage, with 35 units of base knockback and 117 units of knockback scaling. I was trying to tell you that before i was blocked. If you wanted to say that it couln't KO middleweights before 200% even at the ledge, this is true for the previous games, as well the later active hitboxes, but not for the clean hit in Ultimate, as afromentioned. Do you ever use the SSBU Calculator? Because i calculated the KO percent on Mario on the ledge of FD, and it KOs at 110%, the same percent of back aerial by using the data i mentioned above. I also used it to calculate the percent on which most of Kirby's KO moves start to KO middleweights at this position. I want to have a heart to heart talk with you, and i hope you can understand what i mean and if you can forgive me for this mess. Recently, i was roaming around the rules and i found out a few stuff: first, they say that everyone is valuable, and if this is true, i am too, and second, in the administrators page i also found something that say: administrators are not kings, which means that administrators are at the top, but it doesn't mean they know everything and that they're always right. You are not an administrator but you still have a large role in the community, and since i was talking to you when this mess happened, i felt that i had to apologize to you. It seems that when i say my opinion, i get attacked because no one wants to hear me. Everyone has their opinions, i respect them and i certanly don't try to force them, but it doesn't mean that you guys have to make all this mess because of one stupid conversation on Discord, and you guys said that here were allowed subjective talks, but when i say something, i get attacked for stating my opinion. This is bad faith, and also rude, especially since i only started to use an account for a wiki a week ago, while contributing as anonymous for a few months. Do you honestly think that it's that easy to work in a wiki? I know because i already experienced that. Also, the last edit i did to Kirby's SSBU page before i was blocked was describing Kirby's cons as well as the startup of his moves in Ultimate, so it wasn't sugarcoating, as i was also better describing Kirby's troubles in dealing with pressure due to his aerials not being fit for this due to their startup, like Pit's. If you're still mad at me, then i won't blame you, but, please, i want to clear all this mess, because this has been going for far too long. I just hope that you can understand me and forgive me. 79.18.11.200 06:09, February 23, 2020 (EST)
- You trying to help give information was not the issue, it was the way you were acting. It wasn't just Kirby, you and a group of people (or maybe they were all you, idk) were constantly changing information that made calculations inaccurate and conflicted with what was actually in the data of the game. And when your information was removed, you kept adding it back. This is known as "edit warring" and should never happen. And then you continued editing around your block, which is ban evasion, and gets you into even more trouble.
- As you have said before, you don't have SSB4 or SSBU. This means all of your calculations are theoretical and have no ground to stand on. You can assume Mario gets KO'd from Final Destination's ledge with Kirby's Neutral Air at 110%, but it's also possible that it does not. You don't know, you can't test this.
- "Administrators are not kings" is true, but they are highly respected members and are supposed to be listened to when they tell you to do something. Going against this has consequences.
- You can have opinions, no one is saying you can't. But when your "opinions" are based on subjective theoreticals going against experienced players, then they mean nothing. Those aren't opinions, that's speculation, which can be wrong.
- "Do you honestly think that it's that easy to work in a wiki?" Well, I've been editing for six years now, and have been a staff member for three, so, yes, I do think it is pretty easy. Coding may take a while to learn, but it is not hard to follow the rules and suggestions of a community. How long you've been editing a wiki doesn't matter, it's how you behave.
- I, and the rest of Smash Wiki, will possibly forgive you once you have the games yourself and are capable of testing your calculations before trying to push them as fact. 10:36, February 23, 2020 (EST)
As i said, the SSBU Calculator is the official way to calculate KO percents. Do you ever use it? I could buy the game and the Nintendo Switch if i want to, but i can't, it's too expnsive. Since i'm Italian, it would cost somethning like 500 euros to get both the game and the console. besides, as i said, the SSBU Calculator is the official way to calculate KO percents. Do you ever use it? 79.18.11.200 10:40, February 23, 2020 (EST)
- I don't, because I'm not too knowledgeable on the technical data, and don't have a need to use it. I learn who dies at what percent from what character through experience. I have mentioned that to you before, I am not the right person to talk to about this. 10:42, February 23, 2020 (EST)
Remember Dracorex? When i talked to him about the SSBU Calculator, he said that it could be useful. The truth is that KO percentages are heavily dependent on positioning, but the most accepted ones come from the ledge of Final Destination and on middleweights, like Mario, so using him as the one who takes the attack will give an idea on around which percentages will the move KO. I even updated the moveset tection with the percentage in which each move starts KOing. If you have noticed that some multihits only count the final hit, you can subtract the damage from all the multihits to the percentage. This calculator doesn't really count DI, but if you reach the blastline with enough knockback when or before the hitstun ends, it's an unavoidable KO.79.18.11.200 10:48, February 23, 2020 (EST)
Also, i could buy the game and the console if i want, but i can't afford them right now, they cost too much. This is why i'm using technical data to take account on something about the moveset. 79.18.11.200 10:51, February 23, 2020 (EST)
- Okay, clearing something up here. I don't use the Smash Calculator, but I do know how it was built. It uses datamined information from the game, so I don't have any doubt that your theories have some merit behind them. But you have shown other issues on Smash Wiki that do not relate to the calculator: general misconduct, lack of understanding basic knowledge about certain characters, and continuing to talk to users who want nothing more to do with this. And even with the accurate calculations, you have no way of actually testing them. You're a scientist without a lab.
- This conversation has nothing to do with Mario Wiki. I have you blocked on Discord because you kept trying to keep an ended conversation going. I have more important things I need to be doing, so please follow rule 5 I have at the top of my talk page and drop this discussion until you actually have work to show. 10:57, February 23, 2020 (EST)
Message for you
Hey Alex. If you don't mind, would you like to talk to me on the Smash Wiki Discord server? It's for a really important matter that has been nagging me for quite a while. My account is Vittorio Fedele and my tag is #2773. I'll leave you for now, but it's important and i have to talk to someone about it. Talk to me when you feel ready, then we'll get this over with, OK?
Rule 5 says that if i have a question about another wiki or i want to attract your attention i should notify you on the talk page, so i'm not disrespecting this rule. I'm sorry if i'm bothering you, but this is important, and i can't talk about it with anyone else. I just want to have a civil conversation with someone. 82.61.80.38 10:48, March 6, 2020 (EST)
- That means if you need my help or other attention I need to be involved in on another wiki, you can alert me here. Not to discuss blocks for another wiki or Discord. Leave Smash Wiki business to Smash Wiki, or I will block you here again. 10:53, March 6, 2020 (EST)
This is not about discussing blocks, it's about the situation and what i feel about it. Who can i talk with if not with you? Both Dracorex and Serpent King don't want to talk to me, so i'm leaving them alone at the moment. I can't find anyone to talk with about the situation, which is still a mess. For quite a while, i'm feeling insecure about myself and i started to have doubts and thinking about stop talking in a group chat.82.61.80.38 10:57, March 6, 2020 (EST)
- The situation regarding Kirby and how you feel about him in Ultimate, despite not having any real experience with the game, which caused you to add improper information to the wiki and playing victim in the Discord when you were confronted about it, which led to your blocks in both locations, and continuing to message people who want nothing more to do with it after being blocked, correct? Yeah, no, that discussion is long over. Good bye. 11:03, March 6, 2020 (EST)
RE:Bowser Statue Proposal
Then how about if I break it down? There were six voters in that proposal. Three voted in favor of option 2, and four voted in favor of option 3. 3/6 is exactly half, but 4/6 is about 66.67%; therefore option 3 passes. (T|C) 12:27, February 27, 2020 (EST)
Removing comments
That's not the case. Per MarioWiki:Courtesy: "The only comments you are allowed to remove are flames and acts of vandalism, and the only times you can alter another user's comment is to fix broken coding or replace a custom signature with [[User:{{{1}}}|{{{1}}}]] ([[User talk:{{{1}}}|talk]]) on pages which enforce the no-signature policy. Altering the actual content of a comment, even if you're just fixing typos, is a warnable offense. This is not limited to mainspace: even on your own talk page, you shouldn't delete a conversation. It is also inappropriate to go back and alter or remove your own comments from talk pages; if you no longer stand by something you said earlier, slash it out using or , but be sure to leave it up for the record. In proposals and FA nominations, if no one has "per"d your vote or addressed it in the comments, you may remove it; however, if someone has referred to your vote, you must slash it out and ensure that it is no longer counted in the tally by affixing it to the preceding line through use of
." The only time when unpopular comments can be removed are on Proposals and FA nominations. Doomhiker (talk) 12:48, February 27, 2020 (EST)
- That is in reference to another user's comment. You are freely able to remove your own should someone have not responded and you figured out what you wanted on your own or if you no longer stand by it. In other words, it's a form of self redaction. If someone has responded, then yeah, the comment needs to stay, because it is now relevant to something. You can choose to leave the comment there or strike through it, though. 12:52, February 27, 2020 (EST)
Castle Key proposal
Hi, do you have a good idea on how to close this three-option proposal? Even though there are four votes each for the first two options, option 2 has three first-choice votes and one second-choice vote, while option 2 has four first-choice votes. With seven voters total, this would theoretically place the majority at 4/7 (more than half), and the minority at 3/7 (less than half). Thoughts? (T|C) 11:22, March 1, 2020 (EST)
- "Second option" really just means you would prefer another option, but are still okay with this possible outcome. I don't think it determines vote priority. I would consider this a tie. 12:57, March 1, 2020 (EST)
Pighead comic panel
Could you restore that? Using the full page bloats that article's size needlessly. There's merit in keeping individual panels in addition to the full pages. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:08, March 1, 2020 (EST)
Help
There's an image on a website and the link is called [1] and for some reason, the website suffered an internal error and it's currently down. The image is a booklet that has 3 games in it: Mario Undoukai, Super Mario Kart Dokidoki Race and Super Mario's Rock-Paper-Scissors. Is there any way we can reverse this error? I don't know if the website is coming back and I hope there's a way to fix the site early and get it back up. Lord Falafel (talk) 11:37, March 2, 2020 (EST)
- Not Alex but by using the Wayback Machine I was able to find an old archive from December 31st, 2018. Don't know if that helps though. MikhailMCraft (talk • contribs) 11:42, March 2, 2020 (EST)
I messed up on my Vietnamese category and accidentally broke the babel template
Hey Alex, I need your help. It has been almost two years since I created a category for a language. I lost my touch. I messed up the babel template by accident when adding my language. White Lightning 00:31, March 3, 2020 (EST)
- Hmm, looks like it's missing a fourth variant, as in "vi-4". It looks fine to me otherwise, so I'm not sure what you mean. 00:34, March 3, 2020 (EST)
- I fixed it. Now what about the category? White Lightning 00:41, March 3, 2020 (EST)
Broken discussion page
I think the discussion page on list of Mario Kart Wii trading cards is broken. I can't see "split" or "merge" when I hit discussion, just "discuss" on the top of the list page. Lord Falafel (talk) 16:04, March 3, 2020 (EST)
- Because that's not how wikis work. Splitting and merging pages are done through basic editing, not through a page button. 16:40, March 3, 2020 (EST)
I mean none of the discussions of that page show up in the discussion board. They only show up in the bar on the top of the list. Lord Falafel (talk) 16:45, March 3, 2020 (EST)
Then how come discussions appear as a wiki page when I hit the word discuss on the bar on top that says it's been suggested that the list and the gallery for the cards be merged? Also, I posted my discussion (named merge) in the discussion board after I hit the bottom button to add discussions and it's not showing up on the discussion board. Only when I hit the word discuss on the suggestion bar. Lord Falafel (talk) 02:37, March 4, 2020 (EST)
- The link in the template was wrong, so you posted on the Super Mario Galaxy Trading Cards talk page instead. I fixed the link, so if you want to move your comment to the proper location, you can. 11:49, March 4, 2020 (EST)
Heat-proof characters?
Ya notice in a lot of Mario games that Mario, Luigi, Wario, Yoshi, and certain other characters don't seem to get hot when they're in lava levels (with Mario and Luigi wearing long-sleeved shirts), unlike Link in The Legend of Zelda games? Do you suppose these Mario characters are heat-proof, or how do you think they can tolerate the heat? Dwhitney (talk) 02:56, March 7, 2020 (EST)
- And yet Mario sweats in Super Mario Sunshine and Link is fine in The Wind Waker's Dragon Roost Cavern. In both of those games, they have slightly different clothing than usual, so the only possible explanation is magic clothing. Link has that in Ocarina of Time after all. 10:50, March 7, 2020 (EST)

Bubble Pop
The Bubble Pop page says the player can pop one if they touch it six times. I found that to be false: In one Yoshi's Story level (Mecha Castle, I believe), I popped a Bubble Pop with a question mark inside containing a Special Heart, and it took more than six touches to pop it. I'd like to correct that content, but I don't know exactly how many times the player needs to touch a Bubble Pop to pop it (I think it's about 20). You think you can find someone to help verify the info? Dwhitney (talk) 23:17, March 10, 2020 (EDT)

RE:Nintendo Friends Object Hunt SM3DW image
Yeah, this is what differentiates it from the original; it's also the case with the Captain Toad and Yoshi's Island pictures. But I'm curious whether it's okay to keep the Animal Crossing ones or remove them on grounds that they are not Mario-related. Same with Play Nintendo quizzes that don't only focus on Mario (such as this one)--should they be trimmed to only have Mario content? Personally, I think they benefit from the same type of coverage the Smash Bros. series gets, but I would like to know your point of view :) -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:59, March 23, 2020 (EDT)
Wart's status
Wart's face is red in the ending of All Stars, but I think its supposed to be his cheeks flushing in a daze because of the beating rather then actually being dead. Beaten up Wart even manages to throw the key in the Doki Doki Panic version of the ending. In general, I'd say keep the Wart is dead speculation off, much like the Tatanga is dead speculation. Delsait (talk) 20:00, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

- I think that being a dream regardless it's wholly open to interpretation, though some of the "just off screen" cartoon effects in the ending imply the Subcons were beating him up further iirc. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:15, March 25, 2020 (EDT)

Re:Underwhere
A common joke among early-mid elementary schoolers (or at least, when I was, which was about the time of the game's release) was to ask "Why are you under there?" to try and get them to say "under where?" The deflection to this is to say "Because if I wasn't under there, I'd be over there." Regardless, I'd be absolutely shocked if during the entire translation process it never crossed anyone's mind that the name the picked was a homophone for "underwear." It's just too obvious to miss. Split template
Can you confirm if this edit was correct? It seems to me that if a certain split can only be done through a proposal, there shouldn't be a template suggesting it if no one's bothered to start one. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 21:06, May 2, 2020 (EDT)
- The point of the template is to suggest some discussion gets started, through proposal or talk discussion. SMM2 sections
I know that the situation's somewhat different due to being level designers, but given we generally frown upon the use of "New Super Mario Bros. series" and "Super Mario Galaxy series" as headers, should it not be the same for "Super Mario Maker series?" SMM2 has the story mode anyways, so noting what levels in there particular elements appear would be worth its own section. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:19, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
- The New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy series generally have different stuff all around, even the game play is changed slightly between the games. If it's something only Super Mario Maker 2 has, like the Builder Mario power-up or the specific story, then it's something that goes in its own section because there's nothing before it to compare it to. But if it's something that is in all three games with little to no changes, it makes more sense to me to use "Super Mario Maker series" rather than a clunky "Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2" header or "Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS" with "Super Mario Maker 2" split into its own section. For a different example of merged games into a single header, see Mushroom. 20:25, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
- Yes, but "Mario Kart" is an actual full series, not a subseries. Either way, we should probably stop the "slash-reissue" thing unless specific changes to the relevant subject have been made. Either way, given SMM didn't have multiple themes and one style, putting object types that vary with those under one header when the specific variances are mentioned is outright misleading. Furthermore a lot of the NSMBU info for enemies amounts to "acts the same way as before," yet we still have them split. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:41, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
- The similar acting returning enemies in NSMB could probably be merged, too, but one thing at a time.
- "Series" or "subseries" doesn't really make a difference in terms of general coverage. "Super Mario Maker" is a series. But yes to the "slash-reissue" thing, that is the point I was making.
- But the first SMM had different themes and objects that changed with the style, so what do you mean by that? Super Mario Maker 2 may have more themes and objects to work with, but in that case, the extra content would just have "Super Mario Maker 2" as the only Super Mario Maker section on the page.
- EDIT: Well, JC reverted, but it's a case-by-case thing anyway imo. 21:50, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
- (EDIT CONFLICT) ._. What I am saying is that, for instance, listing the specific designs unique to forest/desert/snow/etc or SM3DW style under a SMM banner is misleading for the simple reason that SMM2 isn't a reissue, it's a sequel. As for series/subseries, it does make a difference, due to that the only subseries we have pages for per our coverage are the Super Mario Land (only considered a subseries now due to retroactively(?) being absorbed by the main Super Mario series) and Yoshi's Island (due to the first game being part of said subseries), and even in those cases we never list it as the series header for a history subsection on a page. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:58, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
- Your points make sense. JC reverted because of the 3D World information, which I just took as an expansion of what already existed. The "Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS" still looks clunky (and so does anything else with a "/" in the title), but I understand the setup, and it's better than just making a new "Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS" section when all it will say is "This acts that same as previously."
- Maybe I can make up some proposal for this, for sections to be merged if the subject is in the same series and is no different. I don't think there's a writing guideline for it, it's just based on whoever is writing the article, hence the discrepancy between the NSMBU enemies and articles like Mushroom. 22:08, May 5, 2020 (EDT)

TLDR on Metal Mario
Hey uh, about Metal Mario...
Meta Crystal in Smash 64 is a kooky Metal Switch Cavern
the Melee Trophy describes both at once and lists SM64
Ultimate's spirit uses character's artwork in same array as where Mario's forms are
So if Smash separated them to begin with, they seem alarmingly insistent they're interchangeable.
Anyways, any inconsistencies with other characters using it I'd say would work like how the Cat Mario article lists Cat Peach's MK8 appearance. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:08, May 8, 2020 (EDT)
- I do recognize that there are cross-appearances, specifically in Smash Bros. But even not counting Smash Bros., there is enough information in other spin-off titles that can keep Metal Mario's character article relevant. I can't say the same for Cat Peach, who has only appeared in MK8/MK8DX. 11:29, May 8, 2020 (EDT)
- "Can" does not mean "should," though. We could split all boss and enemy appearances of Wigglers, or boss and non-boss-character appearances of Birdo into two articles, but it wouldn't necessarily be the right thing to do. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:18, May 8, 2020 (EDT)

Restoration
Would you be willing to restore the audio files used in Shokora's audio sample project? I understand they were deleted for being "unused PIs", though I disagree with that since they weren't being used as personal images, weren't actually unused, and had potential mainspace use, not to mention it seems to go against the spirit of sandbox projects in general to me. I know Trig said he would keep the audio files stored elsewhere himself, but given the current situation that's not going to be very useful, and I think it would be better to have them hosted here and would make it much easier for someone to potentially pick the project up later. -- Too Bad! - I didn't see where else this was was being discussed so I'll add my own input here. Personally, since the localization was canceled, I'd say not to add them. The reason is because we don't know if the text is finalized or if the names will ever be reused in released capacity. Or, at the very least, it shouldn't be added to the wiki with the pretense that it made a final release - like for example, translations ought to be marked as being from a canceled localization. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:07, May 21, 2020 (EDT)

You have enlightened me.
Amongst my minor skirmish with Grandet Omate, your reasoning for undoing my trivia edit has enlightened me to the truth: MMKB is an unreliable source. They have absolutely no evidence regarding the origins of Cossack's name. Thus, there was no reason for me to cite them. From now on, I shall never refer to Dr. Cossack with the middle name "Sergeyevich" merely because of that incomprehensible "wiki." Thank you for revealing to me the error. - This previously unsigned comment was added by AwdryFan1997. One of these days, I'll get ahold of this...
- Uh, you're welcome. While citing another wiki itself isn't reliable, you are free to use any sources they do, so long as they are also reliable. 20:03, June 4, 2020 (EDT)

Yoshi
Why do you think Yoshi can't eat Boos in SM64DS, even though they can be defeated (by any other playable character) like almost any other enemy? Dwhitney (talk) 23:12, June 13, 2020 (EDT)
Remember when you told me to read each section on the Yoshi article and see what I can improve? I did that, but I didn't remove the "rewrite" template because I'm not sure the article meets the writing standards, one of them being not to fuse gameplay and story. What do you think? Dwhitney (talk) 15:20, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
- Looks like that was a few months ago. But yeah, a page like Yoshi's needs a lot of work to maintain, so if you think it still needs improvements, leaving the rewrite template up isn't an issue. 16:09, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Yoshi's design is based on the one of Tamagon in the game Devil World, according to this source: "A Brief History of... Yoshi". Official Nintendo Magazine. Nintendo (47): 81–83. 2012. ISSN 1836-4276. Could you find a way to add this information to the Yoshi article?
Also, what must I type to sign my comments on talk pages? Dwhitney (talk)

Unused stamps in NES Remix 2
If the list of NES Remix 2 stamps is accurate, there are only 100 stamps used in the game. However, twelve more were made that for whatever reason are never used, some of which are Mario-related. I have them ready to upload, but now I'm wondering if there's even a place for them since I'm not sure where they are considered as far as coverage. Would a new section on the list of NES Remix 2 stamps work? LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:32, July 11, 2020 (EDT)
- Oh wow, that's pretty neat! Doesn't look like there's a good place on the Stamp page for them right now, but they can go under a "Pre-release and unused content" section on the NES Remix 2 page. I don't know if we have a gallery of Stamps somewhere. 16:38, July 11, 2020 (EDT)
Noki Variation Naming Question
A couple of days ago I collection several screenshots of the many different varieties of Noki NPCs from Mario Sunshine with the intent of putting them into the Gallery of the Noki Page, but have come to worry about giving the files a good and practical name. All the screenshots are based on the Noki's gender, Shell type, and Shell color. I've uploaded a few low quality files from before I got Sunshine, but wasn't too confident in the naming of their files. Any advice?

My game's bugged out for some reason, and it's not letting me get full 100% completion. I've gotten all the records except the Special one I get for beating the game (even though I already have), and Piper doesn't show up at the Crimson Tower. Link from Wind Waker
That's technically true, but at the same time, that's not exactly how the infoboxes delineate things? After all, regular Link isn't separated depending on which incarnation he is in the infobox, and the same goes for Ganondorf and Zelda. Yes, this particular rendition of Toon Link debuted in The Wind Waker due to certain characteristics unique to that version of the character, as well as trophies and tips telling us directly, but part of that is because The Wind Waker started development earlier and was even released before Four Swords in Japan, yet Four Swords did in fact release first overall. I feel like the introductory paragraph did a much better job explaining that before this IP's edits. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:16, July 18, 2020 (EDT)
- Alright, I see your points. I was thinking about those edits from the IP you linked and noticed they weren't there anymore, but I didn't realize it was the same IP that changed them. But if Four Swords released after Wind Waker in Japan, but before Wind Waker in other areas, which one do we credit? Which one came first? 13:24, July 18, 2020 (EDT)
- Well I think the previous wording was fine since we just go with whatever released first period; for Smash example, Byleth's first appearance is listed as Fire Emblem Heroes Ver. 3.7.0 despite that obviously being as a tie-in to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, or for regional example, we don't chronologically swap WarioWare: Twisted! and WarioWare: Touched! depending on which was localized in English first. There is the argument that "Toon" Link specifically refers to the cel-shading of The Wind Waker, but that isn't strictly true because HD replaced the original cel-shading technique and Smash actually doesn't retain it for the character either, so the logical conclusion is that it must be referring to the overall character design. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:00, July 18, 2020 (EDT)
- That makes sense. ZeldaWiki tells me the earliest date between them is Four Swords English release of December 2, 2002, beating Japanese Wind Waker at December 13, 2002. So I guess Four Swords comes first either way. 14:10, July 18, 2020 (EDT)
- That's right. Though I'd be wary of even taking release dates at face value from a wiki known for ceaselessly citing certain books that
stoleborrowed information rather shamelessly from online sources including themselves, but I digress =p LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:22, July 18, 2020 (EDT)

Sketchy source
Not too long ago a user uploaded this image for one of the Mario references pages. My issue with it is that the source is listed as a website where you can watch cartoons for free online, which aside from general sketchiness, those types of websites are often filled with intrusive (if not downright malicious) ads, not to mention the potential for the URL to be abandoned once the copyright police inevitably find them leaving them open to be recycled for worse things. Initially I was just going to remove the source, but given that it is the source for the image, I thought it would be better to get an admin's thoughts on it. -- Too Bad! RE: GameCube
It's still relevant to the Wii U page because the GameCube was the previous title holder of being the worst-selling Nintendo home console. It lost against the PlayStation 2 and Xbox but not the Dreamcast because Sega killed it off early due to not having enough money to compete. It held the title for being the worst-selling Nintendo home console and the least successful Nintendo home console until the Wii U surpassed it. The comparison between the GameCube and Wii U is valid and worth mentioning because they were both flops and they both lost to their main competition that is the PS2 and Xbox for GameCube, and the PS4 and Xbox One for Wii U. --174.92.120.137 16:38, October 6, 2020 (EDT)
- Sure, the PS2 and Xbox winning over GameCube doesn't mean much to the Wii U. But PS4 and Xbox One winning over Wii U does. But stiil, at the end of the day the GameCube and Wii U were both flops for Nintendo during their time and they were the darkest times for Nintendo as they lost the sixth gen and eight gen with the GameCube and Wii U respectively and retrospectively. The Wii was a massive success for Nintendo but the Wii U went back to being a failure and the fact that it couldn't sell as well as its predeccessor did and that it tanked, even harder than the GameCube which as I mentioned was Nintendo's least successful home console previously are the factors that matter more. I still maintain that it is a valid and relevant comparison to mention both respectively, retrospectively, retroactively, and historically, even on the Wii U article. They were both Nintendo consoles and that's what matters more along with the factors that I mentioned regardless of the eras they were in. --174.92.120.137 18:18, October 6, 2020 (EDT)
Citations 2
This discussion says that the citation should be after the comma/period. --DarkNight 19:09, October 8, 2020 (EDT)
- Didn't know about that, thanks for letting me know. Looks like the Citations page was adjusted accordingly. 19:35, October 8, 2020 (EDT)
Glitch Shortcuts
Yes, it could happen, but I think it would work best under a header on the game's glitch page called "Shortcuts". --DarkNight 12:42, October 21, 2020 (EDT)
Re: Archive template
I thought there was a template for that, I couldn't find it though. If the Archived template is violating userspace, I can turn it into a non-template notice on my regular archive page or replace it with Talkarchive altogether; otherwise, I'll keep it how it is now. Spiny Skipsqueak
Why was my edit that added the trivia section undo'ed with the note of "not trivia"? I have noted it as particularly interesting that the spikes on Spiny Skipsqueaks have a pattern, and I found it odd that they have a pattern unlike other spiked enemies. 176.222.226.5 17:34, October 25, 2020 (EDT)
NPCS
Thanks, I noticed I was having some trouble with that. I’ll be mostly inactive these next few days, so I’ll have some time to plan out or think if there are any other character articles we actually need, though as someone else mentioned, most of the necessary ones have been completed. I assume this does not include Bickering Piantas? Green Star 14:16, October 26, 2020 (EDT)
- Absolutely understandable. I feel the best solution for this, since there are a few distinguishable characters such as Dune Buddy and the shell flautist who make lots of appearance throughout various episodes, I'm planning on adding a "miscellaneous" section to both the Noki and Pianta pages to highlight those characters. If I have time, I'll go back to the episodes and note their appearances in a table. I also have all of the quotes for Dune Buddy, which can be added to the quotes page. Thanks for the help! Classic Swoop vs. Swampire
While I understand Swampires are based on the SMW design of Swoops, it's more likely the Green Swoops are simply just a nod to their classic design in the halloween art from their debut appearance and more of a coincidence from the Swampires. --KingGeoshiKoopshi64 (talk) 01:41, October 27, 2020 (EDT)

Explain to me how Life Size merchandise is a "Still a valid reference"
I literally do not get it. Please explain it, HOW is the "life size" merchandise a "Valid Reference" of any kind for Mario's height. I'm absolutely BEYOND frustrated as heck at the moment, please explain it, explain your thinking, because I don't think you ever explained it to me, and I am just super fricking frustrated, because I keep trying to explain time after time again that "Life Size" in context with that kind of merchandise, does NOT mean the character's height, it just means it's big and life like, what is, however, a valid source of information, is this and this source... Just... Please... explain it to me... I've already explained so many times why it isn't a valid reference, why is it to you?

I'd like to apologize for my behavior
Hi, um, I'd like to apologize for my behavior. I really don't want to act that way, it's just something I need to control, however, the personal issues are, and always were besides the point, I just have a habit of rambling my personal feelings and such, but yes, I think the interview should be documented. (And I still think the statue should not) And the reason why I still don't think the statue should be documented is because no one knows whether or not it's meant to be a "Canon Mario" height or if they just mean it's big size, and I think it is pretty inappropriate for the Mario wiki to be using a source that isn't 100% confirmed if that makes sense, since the Mario wiki is a place people will look for and expect 100% confirmed information (It's why I had Larry height debates with people, despite me being the Larry Koopa fan, over Larry obviously being shorter than Mario, and they claimed Larry was the same size as Princess Peach and it took me showing them many screenshots and T-posed models, but it's because people expected this wiki, which had that false information on it, to have 100% confirmed and absolutely correct information) but to be honest, reading the interviews made me believe they just mean big sized, because the interviews imply that the New Donk citizens are normal sized people, and as such, they say to use New Donk City to get an idea of how Mario's abilities are measured. (Which can also be used to measure Mario's own height) Meanwhile Smash Bros doesn't count as a canon source for obvious reasons (but can still be documented) and the cartoons especially don't count as a canon source (but can still be documented, and even then, Mario looks more on the four foot side in those two) and I guess Mario Golf is Mario Golf, I haven't checked the heights there myself, but that source could stay since it is better than the statue. And I think Mario and Sonic better explains New Donk City, lol --GoldyFish110 (talk) 17:57, November 6, 2020 (EST)GoldyFish110
American English
LinkTheLefty and I appear to have yet another disagreement: the placement of commas and periods in quotation marks. Doc von Shmeltwick told me this wiki uses American English, and in that language, commas and periods go inside quotation marks, as stated under "Do commas and periods go inside or outside quotation marks?" on this website. As for this link and this link, both of which LinkTheLefty referred to, the wiki doesn't seem to say anything about the placement of commas and periods in quotation marks. On the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia page, LinkTheLefty reverted my edit about punctuation placement in quotation marks, after which Doc von Shmeltwick reverted his edit, after which Archivist Toadette reverted Doc's edit. LinkTheLefty said maybe a proposal on the matter could be made. Do you have any suggestions or solutions on the matter? Dwhitney (talk) 22:06, November 12, 2020 (EST)
- Yeah, that came up for me as well a while back. I don't remember what was decided, but my personal stance is if the quote has punctuation in it, then the punctuation it used is placed in the quotation marks where appropriate, otherwise it is placed outside them. For examples, if we had a quote of a game going I love this cake!, then we would use "I love this cake!" with no punctuation immediately afterward.
- For the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia example, the character's name isn't "Kuromame," with the comma as part of it, so we'd write "Kuromame" with punctuation immediately following the quotation. "Kuromame", rather than "Kuromame," at least how I think of it. That's clearly not what's happening on the page, so idk. 22:14, November 12, 2020 (EST)
- Just an FYI, I changed it back twice. Doc tried to provide an example in a reversion edit summary as "proof", but I looked at the site and, just as your deductions point out, only says something about actual quotes and not quoted names. (T|C) 22:19, November 12, 2020 (EST)
- ...Maybe an actual discussion should take place first before constantly changing the article content. 22:21, November 12, 2020 (EST)
- The site literally says "In American English, periods and commas are ALWAYS on the inside of quotation marks." (Their emphasis.) No further context is needed because that statement right there covers all possible bases. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:47, November 12, 2020 (EST)
The site also supports Grammarly, which has been a mess to work with on wikis because it doesn't understand how fiction works.- It doesn't make much sense to me to do that, but a quote is a quote, I guess. "Kuromame" is what's being quoted rather than "Kuromame," so it just looks wrong to me. 23:04, November 12, 2020 (EST)

Switch still supporting Miis 3D All-Stars.
Why did you revert my edit mentioning the Switch still supporting Miis in the Changes to Super Mario Galaxy section on 3D All-Stars's page? It is true that the Switch still supports Miis as they can still be created and used in games and some Switch games can use them like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.--174.91.77.211 12:07, November 18, 2020 (EST)
- 1) You're edit warring. Article content should not be constantly changing. Edit summaries are not the place for discussions.
- 2) Yes, the Switch uses Miis, but that doesn't mean 3D All-Stars has to. The Galaxy port just simply doesn't use Miis anymore. We don't need to say the Switch uses Miis, that's already on the Nintendo Switch article. 12:11, November 18, 2020 (EST)
- Actually, I think it's worth a brief mention (something like "Despite the Switch having Mii support, [...]"), but nothing more than that. (T|C) 12:27, November 18, 2020 (EST)
- The thing is that Galaxy is recompiled to run on the Switch but things are still emulated from the Wii. The Nvidia Shield version was fully emulated. Galaxy supported Miis on the original Wii release which can be played on both Wii and Wii U. The Switch still has Mii support as previously mentioned. It's still worth a mention as it is one of the differentiating factors between the original Wii version and the Switch version in 3D All-Stars.--174.91.77.211 12:40, November 18, 2020 (EST)
- It's still mentioned that you can't use Miis in 3D All-Stars. What isn't mentioned (and doesn't need to be, imo) is that the Switch as a console has Miis on it. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 12:46, November 18, 2020 (EST)
- I strongly disagree with you. This is still a factual piece of information worth noting. The point still stands that it is still worth briefly mentioning that the Switch still supports Miis because Galaxy used Miis in the original Wii release and the Switch version missing it is a big one despite the Switch's Mii support. I think Archivist Toadette's suggestion is the best way to go about and I agree with them.--174.91.77.211 13:26, November 18, 2020 (EST)
- > It's still mentioned that you can't use Miis in 3D All-Stars.
- Doing a search on the 3D All-Stars page and finding only the one instance of the word "Mii", being this dispute. But yeah, we don't need to say the Switch uses Miis, that's on the Switch's article. We only need to say the port doesn't utilize them. The point is still being made. 21:17, November 18, 2020 (EST)
- I am still on the side with Archivist Toadette that we can give it a brief mention according to their suggestion on how it can be implemented. We can simply reword it like this: "Despite the Switch having Mii support, it is no longer possible to use Miis as a save icon due to the game being based on the Chinese NVIDIA Shield TV version (which lacked Mii support entirely due to that system not using Miis) rather than the original Wii release." Notice that I modified it to include an explanation for why the game is lacking Mii support from the original Wii release while the Switch still uses Miis. The reason for it lacking Mii support is due to to it being based on the NVIDIA Shield TV version of the game rather than the original Wii release which obviously supported Miis. I think it is still a good way to go about it.--174.91.77.211 01:20, November 19, 2020 (EST)
- "The game seems to be based on the Nvidia Shield version released in China."
- It's already in the "Super Mario Galaxy" changes section. Further information is on the Super Mario Galaxy page, but I'm noticing it doesn't make note of the Miis being absent on the file select, or even noting the file select itself. It would go somewhere on there instead. Probably should be a Nvidia Shield changes section on there somewhere, idk. 01:36, November 19, 2020 (EST)
