:Personally, I hate the tab functions and think the wiki is much better off without them, but {{user|Porplemontage}} has the final say when it comes to extensions. He usually doesn't install new things unless there's a really good reason to, however, since they can negatively affect the database (i.e. if they have glitches, or as they become outdated incompatible with upgrades, etc.). He'd know better than me, of course, but I feel like this idea is not gonna fly. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 15:15, 5 May 2015 (EDT) | :Personally, I hate the tab functions and think the wiki is much better off without them, but {{user|Porplemontage}} has the final say when it comes to extensions. == | == Splitting lists into separate pages ==
Not sure if it's already mentioned here, but are we allowed to split long lists into separate pages? My [[List of enemy formations in Paper Mario|enemy]] [[List of enemy formations in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door|formation]] lists for [[Paper Mario]] and [[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door|its sequel]] include pictures and I originally had things on a single page, but decided to split them off in separate pages per chapter because the pages were getting very long. I also wanted to know if splitting bestiaries [[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars bestiary|with lots]] [[Paper Mario|of enemy stats]] into separate pages would be acceptable as well (as they had to be split off into separate tables). --[[User:Zootalo|Zootalo]] ([[User talk:Zootalo|talk]]) 20:02, 30 June 2015 (EDT)
:I'd say keep the bestiaries together, and actually, we're not supposed to use subpages anymore, so what you've done with the enemy pages is [[MarioWiki:Subpages Policy|breaking policy]], technically. I suggest simply removing all the repetitive images and just keep all the formations in one list. It's not like we really need to see the exact same Goomba sprite [[List_of_enemy_formations_in_Paper_Mario/Prologue-Toad_Town#Goomba_Village_and_Goomba_Road|17 times in a single section]], and frankly, for single-character battles like Jr. Troopa in that section, it looks silly to have the sprite twice, or to have things like The Master getting three lines further down. Stuff like the two 2-party Goomba formations in "Goomba Road, first area" could also be summarized with "x 2", or with another column to say how many times a given formation appears. It might be worth keeping the "Enemy on Field" images since that's what players need to look out for, and to add ''some'' bling, but not the in-battle extras. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 20:38, 30 June 2015 (EDT)

== Question about writing style of Japanese Meaning section ==
I am now back from 2 weeks of blocking because of not obeying JapR writing Policy. <br>Now I get how Users should write JapR section, but I still do not get how to write JapMs. The fact is some Users extremely detest colloquial translations like [[Rope_o_Nobotte_Athletic!|this]], as they try to undo my those loose translations immediately. <br>When I edit JapM, "I mostly try to insert loose translation like fun newspapers, not too literal", and "When there is a need to refer to a Japanese word like [[Watt|this]] or [[Nintendo|this]], I write the original word in ''italic'' only if the Japanese is short enough and I add Japanese text if it is not short or a phrase".<br>So, could someone tell me where can I find the guideline or the Policy about JapM texting style? If there isn't such a page, could someone answer it how? If possible, I request answers from native Japanese Users.
[[User:Goolgenerade|Goolgenerade]] ([[User talk:Goolgenerade|talk]]) 03:56, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
:It's not just Japanese, it's ''all'' languages that require direct, ''accurate'' translations: being loose and "fun" is actually misleading a lot of the time, since the names aren't actually saying what you said they are. In many cases, the direct translation can just be provided, but in other cases, explanations ''are'' needed, like to explain corruptions breaking from actual words (like your Watt example), stuff requiring context (like if it's a pun, if it's from a saying, or is otherwise a cultural reference, like the Nintendo example), things with multi-layered or significantly different possible meanings (again, each of Nintendo's kanji have a lot of implications in addition to the overall "leave luck to heaven" stuff, so it's useful to walk readers through it), or onomatopoeic names that ''can't'' translate directly. In the latter case, things like ''[[Doki Doki Panic]]'' get translated as "Heart-pounding Panic" even though a direct translation would be "Lub-dub Panic" - but the latter is very awkward sounding and loses the feel of the original name, so instead, the former is provided, with an explanation that ''doki doki'' represents the sound of a rapidly beating heart, so that the readers aren't being mislead into thinking that "doki doki" ''literally'' means "heart-pounding", but still get the sense of urgency/tenseness that the Japanese name's conveying. There's no policy page on how to use {{tem|foreignname}} properly yet, but now that we actually are starting to see more and more non-English names added, perhaps that's something we should be looking into, or at least expanding the instructions on the template page itself. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 13:16, 26 October 2015 (EDT)

== A question == | |||
Why am I not able to edit the List of glitches in Super Mario 64 DS? My friends and I discovered some glitches in multiplayer mode, and I want to add them to the list.-JohnB13
:You're not [[MarioWiki:Autoconfirmed users|autoconfirmed]]. You have to be here for at least four days and make at least five edits before you can edit pages that are prone to vandalism and misinformation, such as glitch pages. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 12:34, 28 November 2015 (EST)
== How is a brand new table created? ==
I am interested in helping here on the tables of "Names in other languages". Some enemies have Portuguese translations that are not on their respective pages and I'd like to help, since I speak Portuguese, so I play Mario games in that language.
I am most interested on the translation of Shiny RoboBowser, since I have it.
So, how is a table CREATED and not edited? {{unsigned|188.98.49.198}}
:Until you have an autoconfirmed account ([[MarioWiki:Autoconfirmed Users|more info]]), you can't create a template. If you're only trying to add info, just look at the template and add it's respective tag (i.e. French: Fra since I don't know Portuguese off the top of my head) along with it's translation. {{User:Roy Koopa/sig}} 16:37, 14 January 2016 (EST)
::You don't actually need to make a new template, just add the preexisting {{tem|foreignname}} template to the page, along with new inputs. In this case, since I'm assuming you have the European Portuguese version, you should add this to the page, above the Trivia section, which has the new header as well as the template:
::{| | |||
|<pre> | |||
==Names in other languages==
{{foreignname | |||
|PorE= | |||
|PorEM= | |||
}} | |||
</pre> | |||
|} | |||
::And then just fill in the new name and its translation after the = signs. In general, the easiest way to figure out how to add things like templates is to look at what other pages have done, and then just copy them. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 16:53, 14 January 2016 (EST)

== Fan-made artwork == | |||
I have a question, somebody uploaded an artwork that is identical to the original Nintendo render, but not actually made by Nintendo(therefore fan-made), it was made by another company not afflitiated in any way with Nintendo, and I ask if that is allowed here on the wiki? Anyway the image is this(it's made by Vinfreild):
http://www.mariowiki.com/images/thumb/b/be/MTArt.PNG/219px-MTArt.PNG
--[[User:CastleResearch|CastleResearch]] ([[User talk:CastleResearch|talk]]) 15:34, 6 February 2016 (EST)
:Nope, but thanks for asking. It's pretty authentic-looking (save for the socks), but whether by a group or an individual, it's still unofficial fan art and so, is not allowed, and I've already reverted the image (although it might not appear that way for a bit due to caching of [http://www.mariowiki.com/images/archive/b/be/20160206205149!MTArt.PNG the fan-made image]). - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 15:57, 6 February 2016 (EST)

[[ | I'm new on a wikipedia, so i need some help here. How do i make it so that the name of something be the same, but make it link to a different page?{{unsigned|RacoonDerek}}
:If you mean like [[Mario|this example]], that is called pipe-linking, you can make that using <code><nowiki>[[target|title]]</nowiki></code>, where target is the intended page, and title is the text that should appear instead of the page original title. If you want to test that I advice you to check [[MarioWiki:Sandbox|this page]].--{{User:Megadardery/sig}} 19:47, 14 April 2016 (EDT)

huh!
It was legal to archive it, huh?!

14:19, 27 February 2013 (EST)
- No, you should have asked first and let us do it rather than assuming it was okay for just anyone to archive important pages like this. And no, you will not be changing around any of the archives: once the content is moved, it is protected and left untouched and intact with its history. - Walkazo 21:30, 27 February 2013 (EST)

PNG and JPG
I'm totally confused on replacing jpg with png and related things.. so In short I need to ask.. Is this png artwork is good enough to be uploaded and to replace This jpg artwork. Please explain either yes, or no.--
02:08, 31 May 2013 (EDT)
- No, they shouldn't. The png artwork you uploaded have pixelated, unofficial transparency. And I also suspect that they are source-jpgs, meaning that they are still jpgs, just in the png format. So no, unless the artwork has official transparency or are better quality, source pngs, they shouldn't replace jpgs.
How do I make some profile art?
I really don't know how to make some of that profile art like what most users have. Can anyone tell me how to do it?--Mariobro101 (talk) 15:05, 18 June 2013 (EDT)
- You could do that by using many programs: like photoshop or GIMP. all you need to do is find a character you like very much, download it and modify it as you like.. I could help you if you give me the character's name and modification you would like to do.-- 06:11, 19 June 2013 (EDT)
My username is FireWario. All I want is an icon like the ones used in the Fake News section of The 'Shroom. Oh, and make sure it matches my profile image! I don't wanna see any incongruity! I want it to compliment my pic, not contrast it! --FireWario 17:21, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
Smileys
How do I put smileys on MarioWiki pages? I tried some in the Sandbox, and it wouldn't work! What the heck am I supposed to do? --FireWario 18:05, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
- What do you mean with smileys? there is no smileys on the wiki, but there is on the forum. and do you mean like ?-- 19:00, 25 June 2013 (EDT)
- Yeah, just paste the URL of smileys which exist elsewhere: there's no specific coding to put them on pages here. Although, you might want to check out the ones at Help:Chat#Smilies.

Signatures
How do you put pictures or animations on a signature? --RWARS! ...Oh did i scare you? (talk) 22:58, 21 July 2013 (EDT)
- Just link them using [[File:image name.ext]] and adjust the size like this [[File:image name.ext|Xpx]] where X is a value such as 200. Ray Trace(T|C) 00:06, 22 July 2013 (EDT)
- You can also use something like [[File:image name.ext|x35px]], with the first x making the number pertain to the image's height (just saying "35px" would make it 35px wide, while "x35px" makes it 35px tall). I use 35px as the example because that's as tall as you're allowed to get with signature images; you're also only allowed two static images or one animated image. MarioWiki:Signature and Help:Signature have more info about signature regulations and setup. - Walkazo 00:41, 22 July 2013 (EDT)

Removal of opposes?
Is there is a possibility of making a removal of opposes section in proposals?--
16:27, 4 October 2013 (EDT)
- Unnecessary and messy. Just point out if a vote's bad in the comments and hopefully the voter will check back in and do something about it (as outlined in Rule 5). Most people will cast their votes according to sound reasoning anyway and a proposal will pass or fail based on its true merits, so it's not something to worry about. - Walkazo 18:21, 4 October 2013 (EDT)

Adding signatures for different days
So, I've noticed people signatures change during Christmas and Halloween and other things like that. Do they just change it themselves, or is there a special coding and/or page they used to change it? Stargazing ♥♥♥♥ 21:43, 28 August 2014 (EDT)
They don't change the sig or there is no code. They put the sig on the page. If you don't get it' they put the pictures' links' etc. on the page without a page. I may not be a patroller' sysop' etc. but I do know some stuff. Joseph (talk) (contribs)
- They do change the signature code. Check out my sister's signature. This revision is her old signature during the holidays. I also have a holiday-specific signature (images have long been reuploaded). You can't create multiple sig pages, but just edit your own sig page! You can use holiday-specific signatures, and it's easy to revert once the holidays are over. Anyway, I hope this helps. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 21:12, 7 September 2014 (EDT)
- Also, I feel like Joseph's suggestion sounds like it's advising something that's actually against the rules, so to be clear, you're not ever supposed to put sig coding (links, image links, colours, etc.) directly on talk pages and whatnot: you need to go through the sig subpage, so as not to clutter everything with raw coding. - Walkazo 22:47, 7 September 2014 (EDT)
But some people do. Joseph (talk) (contribs)
- Well they're not supposed to, and techncially, any raw-coding sigs can be stripped down to a basic link or {{User}}, as per MW:SIG Rule 3. - Walkazo 21:54, 8 September 2014 (EDT)
Ah, I just saw these. Thanks for the help, although I may be a bit confused, since I'm not good with coding in the first place (which is probably why Brawl still isn't hacked). I'll play around with it. Stargazing ♥♥♥♥ 18:40, 24 September 2014 (EDT)

- According to rule 14, "Proposals can only be rewritten or deleted by their proposer within the first three days of their creation." So you can add a few more options, but it would be wise to let your voters know about this, especially if they don't follow the 2 week process of the proposal. Policy for gallery labels? (And how to avoid an edit war)
It looks like most of the galleries here have their images labeled with the character's in-game name. But for the past month or so, there's been a user (without an account, editing under IPs from 69.35.200.xxx to 69.35.203.xxx) who's been going around to lots of galleries and changing the displayed names to the exact name of the character's Wiki article (e.g, in Gallery:Mario Kart 8, changing "Peach" to "Princess Peach" and "Wendy" to "Wendy O. Koopa").
This seems like a bad idea: a gallery for a game should show the names from that game. A lot of these changes have been reverted, but IP-Person just comes back a few days later and makes the changes again. (See Gallery:Mario Golf: World Tour's recent history for a good example.) - Just put {{delete}} in the image summary, and say why you want it deleted. Also, to answer your earlier questions that you deleted, no, you can't delete accounts or start new ones when you already have one. If you want to leave, just leave, and if you want to stay, keep using your original account. And on the note of deleting the earlier questions, please do not do that again: it is almost as bad as spam to edit a page repeatedly doing and undoing edits. Is it possible to...
I want my own Talk page left alone, but is it okay to? The fact is I'm feeling embarassed because I have received a Warning from a non-admin user. by Goolgenerade in 3/May/2015
- No, talk pages are specifically for other users to talk to you: you can't stop them from using it, and you can't remove their comments or your own responses, although you are allowed to slash out your responses if you no longer stand by them. And for the record, prematurely archiving the talk page is also a poor way to try and hide talk page content you don't like: users try this a lot, and it's never viewed in a good light. - Walkazo 12:15, 3 May 2015 (EDT)
- Thank for answering! But I still feel weird that a Warned user has Warned me... Goolgenerade

Tabber Extension
I'd like to have the Tabber extension installed on this Wiki. This extension allows for the insert of tabbed sections on a page and the tabs can contain any valid wiki data (links, images, templates, etc), meaning that lots of text can be organized into smaller sections, thus pages wouldn't be as long to scroll through. This extension would be especially useful for some of the major articles, or enemy bestiaries that contain lots of information that require more than one table. If we can have Tabber installed here, that'd be great. --Zootalo (talk) 12:47, 5 May 2015 (EDT)
- Personally, I hate the tab functions and think the wiki is much better off without them, but Porplemontage (talk) has the final say when it comes to extensions. He usually doesn't install new things unless there's a really good reason to, however, since they can negatively affect the database (i.e. if they have glitches, or as they become outdated incompatible with upgrades, etc.). He'd know better than me, of course, but I feel like this idea is not gonna fly. - Walkazo 15:15, 5 May 2015 (EDT)
Splitting lists into separate pages
Not sure if it's already mentioned here, but are we allowed to split long lists into separate pages? My enemy formation lists for Paper Mario and its sequel include pictures and I originally had things on a single page, but decided to split them off in separate pages per chapter because the pages were getting very long. I also wanted to know if splitting bestiaries with lots of enemy stats into separate pages would be acceptable as well (as they had to be split off into separate tables). --Zootalo (talk) 20:02, 30 June 2015 (EDT)
- I'd say keep the bestiaries together, and actually, we're not supposed to use subpages anymore, so what you've done with the enemy pages is breaking policy, technically. I suggest simply removing all the repetitive images and just keep all the formations in one list. It's not like we really need to see the exact same Goomba sprite 17 times in a single section, and frankly, for single-character battles like Jr. Troopa in that section, it looks silly to have the sprite twice, or to have things like The Master getting three lines further down. Stuff like the two 2-party Goomba formations in "Goomba Road, first area" could also be summarized with "x 2", or with another column to say how many times a given formation appears. It might be worth keeping the "Enemy on Field" images since that's what players need to look out for, and to add some bling, but not the in-battle extras. - Walkazo 20:38, 30 June 2015 (EDT)

Question about writing style of Japanese Meaning section
I am now back from 2 weeks of blocking because of not obeying JapR writing Policy.
Now I get how Users should write JapR section, but I still do not get how to write JapMs. The fact is some Users extremely detest colloquial translations like this, as they try to undo my those loose translations immediately.
When I edit JapM, "I mostly try to insert loose translation like fun newspapers, not too literal", and "When there is a need to refer to a Japanese word like this or this, I write the original word in italic only if the Japanese is short enough and I add Japanese text if it is not short or a phrase".
So, could someone tell me where can I find the guideline or the Policy about JapM texting style? If there isn't such a page, could someone answer it how? If possible, I request answers from native Japanese Users.
Goolgenerade (talk) 03:56, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
- It's not just Japanese, it's all languages that require direct, accurate translations: being loose and "fun" is actually misleading a lot of the time, since the names aren't actually saying what you said they are. In many cases, the direct translation can just be provided, but in other cases, explanations are needed, like to explain corruptions breaking from actual words (like your Watt example), stuff requiring context (like if it's a pun, if it's from a saying, or is otherwise a cultural reference, like the Nintendo example), things with multi-layered or significantly different possible meanings (again, each of Nintendo's kanji have a lot of implications in addition to the overall "leave luck to heaven" stuff, so it's useful to walk readers through it), or onomatopoeic names that can't translate directly. In the latter case, things like Doki Doki Panic get translated as "Heart-pounding Panic" even though a direct translation would be "Lub-dub Panic" - but the latter is very awkward sounding and loses the feel of the original name, so instead, the former is provided, with an explanation that doki doki represents the sound of a rapidly beating heart, so that the readers aren't being mislead into thinking that "doki doki" literally means "heart-pounding", but still get the sense of urgency/tenseness that the Japanese name's conveying. There's no policy page on how to use {{foreignname}} properly yet, but now that we actually are starting to see more and more non-English names added, perhaps that's something we should be looking into, or at least expanding the instructions on the template page itself. - Walkazo 13:16, 26 October 2015 (EDT)

How is a brand new table created?
I am interested in helping here on the tables of "Names in other languages". Some enemies have Portuguese translations that are not on their respective pages and I'd like to help, since I speak Portuguese, so I play Mario games in that language.
I am most interested on the translation of Shiny RoboBowser, since I have it.
So, how is a table CREATED and not edited?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by 188.98.49.198 (talk).
- Until you have an autoconfirmed account (more info), you can't create a template. If you're only trying to add info, just look at the template and add it's respective tag (i.e. French: Fra since I don't know Portuguese off the top of my head) along with it's translation. J-Luigi (talk) 16:37, 14 January 2016 (EST)
- You don't actually need to make a new template, just add the preexisting {{foreignname}} template to the page, along with new inputs. In this case, since I'm assuming you have the European Portuguese version, you should add this to the page, above the Trivia section, which has the new header as well as the template:
==Names in other languages== {{foreignname |PorE= |PorEM= }}
