A Boom Guy is a red Shy Guy appearing in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time that balances a Bill Blaster on top of its head. Boom Guys patrol the halls of Prince Bowser's Castle. Upon spotting its enemies, a Boom Guy fires a Bullet Bill, engaging them in battle. In a fight, a Boom Guy launches Bullet Bills to attack, which can be dodged by jumping. The Boom Guy may also try to fake out its opponent by firing a puff of smoke before it actually attacks. However, this can be predetermined by looking if it points at Mario or Luigi before attacking. If a Boom Guy is attacked enough times, its cannon falls off, leaving it defenseless, and causing it to become an ordinary Shy Guy. When this happens, the Boom Guy starts to panic. Without a cannon, it can only call for help. If it is heard, two Fly Guys appear and drop another Bill Blaster on the Boom Guy's head, allowing it to resume the fight. Otherwise, the Boom Guy continues to panic until its next turn.

Stronger versions of Boom Guys called Elite Boom Guys appear in Gritzy Caves. These enemies are blue and attack the same way, except that their Bullet Bills fire much faster, and their Bill Blaster is more resistant.
