A Cat O' 9 Tails (also spelled Cat o' 9 tails, Cat-O´-9-Tails[1][2] and Cat-O’-Nine-Tails[3]) is a blue cat with many tails and an enemy which only appears in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Its name is derived from the whip called "cat o' nine tails," although Cat O' 9 Tails only appears to have seven tails.
Description
Cat O' 9 Tails are uncommon enemies and only appear in three levels: Mudhole Marsh, Screech's Sprint, and Fiery Furnace. If a Cat O' 9 Tails notices Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong, it starts to rapidly twirl and move around, attempting to whip both Kongs with its tails. Cat O' 9 Tails are invulnerable to attack while they spin around, and after a while the Cat O' 9 Tails collapses from dizziness. During this phase, the Kongs can defeat the Cat O' 9 Tails by jumping on its head or using their frontal attacks on it.
The Kongs must generally avoid a Cat O' 9 Tails while it spins around, else they get caught in its tails, and after a seconds, the Cat O' 9 Tails flings them upward. While this allows the Kongs to collect out-of-reach items, this may also cause them to fall into a nearby enemy, hazard, or abyss.
