The Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary was an event that took place in the last few months of 2010, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the start of the mainline Super Mario series with the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985. There were hints of the anniversary event as early as September 2, 2010, with a non-public announcement of Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition during a retailer briefing in Japan.[2] A logo for the anniversary event was trademarked a few days later, further indicating that an anniversary event was in the works.[3] On September 13, 2010, the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. was officially announced when Nintendo revealed Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition.[4] The anniversary was celebrated with promotional websites, merchandise, Club Nintendo rewards, and several new releases of hardware and software themed to the Super Mario franchise, one of which was the release of Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition.
The anniversary celebration officially came to an end on January 10, 2011.[1]

- The November 8, 2010 episode of Nintendo Week featured a segment focusing on the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary and the various hardware and software being released for the celebration.[15]
- During the segment, Gary and Alison unboxed the North American 25th Anniversary Red Edition Wii and DSi XL bundles. They also promoted Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition and its contents.
- A special message from Shigeru Miyamoto was shown at the end of the segment where he discussed the 25th anniversary-themed hardware and software and thanked fans for playing Super Mario games.
Flipnote Studio[edit]
- A "Make Your Own Mario Flipnote" contest for Flipnote Studio was held to commemorate the anniversary. The contest required participants to create Super Mario-franchise themed flipnotes and chosen winners would have their submissions commented on by either Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, or Yoshiaki Koizumi;[16] all of whom worked on and helped create the original Super Mario Bros.
- The Mario Drawing Song was created by Nintendo to promote the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary-themed competition on the application. The song has since been referenced and used in other Super Mario-related media.
Nintendo World Store event[edit]
A Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary event was held on November 7th, 2010 at the Nintendo World Store and was attended by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and then-Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.[17]
- Shigeru Miyamoto created a 25th Anniversary-themed Super Mario drawing to be displayed at the event.[18]

- Gary from Nintendo Week was in attendance to interview various fans about the event and their personal experiences with the Mario-series.[19]
