- —Mike, WarioWare: Touched!
Mike is a karaoke robot created and programmed by Dr. Crygor in the WarioWare series. He was created to serve as an assistant for Dr. Crygor, though he does not always get along with his creator. His name is the short form of "microphone", which is the primary method of control in his set of microgames in WarioWare: Touched! and WarioWare Gold.
History[edit]
WarioWare series[edit]
WarioWare: Touched![edit]
In WarioWare: Touched!, Mike is created by Dr. Crygor to be a karaoke robot, but is programmed to do the cleaning around the doctor's lab. His programming goes haywire, though, when he blows away some dust. His karaoke programming overrides his systems, compelling him to host a party. He soon reaches a planet inhabited by Alien Bunnies and holds a karaoke tournament there.
Soon after Mike beats his competition, Dr. Crygor shows up in a taxi driven by Dribble & Spitz, telling him that it's time to go back home. Back at the lab, Dr. Crygor wishes to sing a duet with Mike, but the two of them get into an argument about Dr. Crygor's singing talent. Annoyed, Mike goes to the Hawt House.
WarioWare: Smooth Moves[edit]
In WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mike is first seen cheering in the crowd of Penny and Dr. Crygor's Invent-Off. After Penny wins, she uses one of Mike's head-mounted microphones to sing, with Mike and Dr. Crygor dancing alongside her. Later, Mike and Dr. Crygor show off Dr. Crygor's invention, the Kelorometer, a machine designed to burn "kelories". Mike and Dr. Crygor pedal on bicycles attached to the Kelorometer to power it.
WarioWare: D.I.Y.[edit]
Though Mike does not make a physical appearance in WarioWare: D.I.Y., he is a usable stamp in the Comic MakerMatic.
Game & Wario[edit]
In Game & Wario, Mike appears as the host of the Disco minigame. He introduces the game and supplies the various songs that are played. He appears in the minigame's background as the DJ. This is the only game to have his second voice.
Like the other WarioWare characters, Mike hosts one of the Miiverse Sketch Masterpiece Collection videos. The theme of Mike's video is zebras.
WarioWare Gold[edit]
In WarioWare Gold, Mike often appears alongside Dr. Crygor. In Dr. Crygor's story, he and Mike are in the Agate Forest. Mike approaches him from behind and states his name, scaring him. After Dr. Crygor tells how he misses him, Mike gags in disgust. He immediately detects an unknown signal, reasoning that it may be a paranormal frequency which scares Dr. Crygor. He explains that the forest has an otherworldly energy and there might be a ghost. As Dr. Crygor reprimands Mike for pranking him, Doris 1 approaches from behind and laughs, scaring them both. Mike proceeds to ask Doris 1 who she is. After she greets them and recognizes Dr. Crygor, she chases him. While he gets chased, Mike stands in place. During gameplay, Mike stands around on the top screen of the Nintendo 3DS. If the player wins a microgame, he dances and if the player loses, he trembles. When the stage speeds up, he looks around. In the story's epilogue, Mike questions why Doris 1 is back at Dr. Crygor's Lab. After Dr. Crygor explains, Mike admits he fabricated the frequencies. When Dr. Crygor realizes he left the fungi in the forest, he asks Mike something only for Mike to quickly reject.
In the intro to Dancing Team, he and some other WarioWare, Inc. employees arrive at Club Joe. He remarks that humans like novelty and explains how his mic microgames work. The player must blow into the microphone in order to complete them. He also joins the group that is at the Peridot Campgrounds, though he does not speak.
WarioWare: Get It Together![edit]
Mike appears in WarioWare: Get It Together! In the game's story mode, he appears in the opening cutscene, polishing one of his microphones. He, along with the rest of the WarioWare, Inc. employees, gets sucked in the game world due to Wario's actions.
Mike appears in the intro of Dr. Crygor's stage, where he is shown being applauded by the Flatterbots.
In the pre-stage cutscene of the Remix stage, the gang finds a minecart, and notices a sound coming from inside it. Mike jumps out and comments on the acoustics in the minecart. Dr. Crygor states that he will not allow Mike to get away from his sight, forcing him to join the group. Mike reluctantly agrees, miffed that he has to give up his solo career. After the stage is cleared, Mike joins the gang, stating "Sing it!"
After beating Anything Goes, Mike goes back to the real world alongside most of the other WarioWare, Inc. employees and chases after Wario after it is revealed their predicament was caused by his poor programming. However, they soon remember other people were left behind in the game world, and they immediately return to rescue them.
As a playable character, Mike flies around with . Pressing makes him spit musical notes upward. His attacks are useful in clearing out objects in a fast manner (e.g. Shoo, Fly!, Shadow Sports) and forcing objects upward (e.g. Stop the Stopper, Face Wash). Unlike 9-Volt, who must time his attacks to complete microgames, Mike can consistently interact with objects above him from a low area (e.g. Drop Zone, Web Surfer) without the need to time attacks precisely. However, like 9-Volt, Mike's projectiles are ineffective in moving objects horizontally, such as in Sleep Clinic (the only microgame considered a bad fit), forcing him to move objects with his body, which may prove more inefficient than using projectiles. Overall, Mike has 5 microgames that deem him a good fit, and 139 games considered an above-average fit.
WarioWare: Move It![edit]
Mike appears in WarioWare: Move It! where he, along with the rest of the WarioWare cast, join Wario on his vacation to Caresaway Island. Mike, Dr. Crygor and Penny all share a stage together titled "A Curious Case of Cave Art", where the three of them explore the Underarm Jungle. They find cave drawings and try to comprehend what could have inspired the creation of a certain drawing. Mike believes that the drawing was inspired by an owl. Dr. Crygor suddenly has an idea and presents the Time Obliterator 5.0, a time travel device. Using the device, the group travel to the prehistoric times. When they arrive, Mike notices a bored caveman drawing the specific cave drawing in action, who is looking for inspiration. Upon seeing the group, the caveman gains creative inspiration and orders them to stand and pose while he draws them. After the stage is cleared, the trio is exhausted from doing all of their posing, but watch in awe seeing the caveman drawing new cave art.
Mike returns in Remix 1, "Not-So-Relaxing Rapids", where he is shown in the beach house singing loudly, to Mona and Red's annoyance. When the beach house is detached and sent into the nearby rapids, he is flung out of the house with everyone, who then land safely on top of a tour bus. After the stage is cleared, everyone exits the tour bus and find a statue of King Caresaway the First. The group looks in astonishment, but quickly changes to worry when their detached beach house falls and crushes the statue.
Mike, along with the rest of the WarioWare cast appear in the final stage, "Lava at First Sight", where they all dance to defeat Volcano Wario. After Wario is launched from the volcano, the cast enjoys their vacation, while Wario is stuck inside a temple.
Mike appears as player 2 in the Megagame Muscles mode alongside Dr. Crygor. He is seen training under Mr. Sparkles, and gains muscle at the end based on his performance.
Rhythm Heaven Megamix[edit]
Mike makes an appearance in the Wario... Where? challenge set of Rhythm Heaven Megamix. During the set's version of Fillbots 2, he replaces the titular automatons and is filled with blue liquid. In this game, there are many Mike robots, as well as larger ones that are filled with red liquid instead.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mike is referenced in Dr. Crygor's spirit battle, where he is represented by a blue R.O.B.
General information[edit]
Physical appearance[edit]
Mike is a blue robot with lines on his "joints". His chest has two yellow speakers with orange speaker boxes outlining them, and the sides of his head have what resemble yellow headphones. On top of his head, he has a yellow mic stand with two functional microphones attached to it. Parts of his body that were formerly red, including his eyes, eyebrows, and speaker box, were changed to orange in WarioWare: Smooth Moves.
Mike's Theme[edit]
- Main article: Mike's Theme
During his opening video in WarioWare: Touched!, Mike sings a song. Both his and Ashley's theme song are the only songs in that game that have lyrics.
