Level EX-9 (Level x-7 in the GBA version) is the ninth/seventh of the Expert levels in Mario vs. Donkey Kong and its remake. It is set in Mario Toy Factory. It requires 63 (72 in the remake) gold stars to unlock. In the Nintendo Switch remake, the target time for this level's Time Attack is 60.00.

Overview[edit]

In this level, the player needs to ride a Shy Guy across a series of spikes. In the first segment, the player needs to throw the Shy Guy onto the spikes and do Handstand Jumps to get onto the first pillar. After pressing the blue Color Switch, the player needs to do a Handstand Double Jump to get onto the second pillar. Once the Shy Guy is past the second pillar, the player needs to pick it up and press the yellow Color Switch ahead, then toss the Shy Guy onto the platform above. While avoiding the Shy Guy, the player has to do a Handstand Double Jump or Backflip to get onto the platform, then again off of the Shy Guy to get over the ledge above. When the Shy Guy is in the small crevice next to the platform, the player needs to press a red Color Switch, climb down to pick up the Shy Guy, and then toss it onto above platforms and move to the top of the level.

In the second segment, the player has to toss the Shy Guy onto the red platform. When the Shy Guy is positioned above the spikes, the player has to press a yellow Color Switch to make the Shy Guy drop, and then quickly use the ropes to jump onto the Shy Guy. The player then needs to jump between ropes while keeping up with the Shy Guy, using it to move across the spikes and crouch under a wall at the end. After doing a Handstand Jump to get onto the platform above, the player can simply grab the key and unlock the door.

In the remake, the Shy Guy was moved onto the spikes, making it no longer mandatory for the player to toss the Shy Guy onto the spikes first before they can ride it.
