A Fright Jar in use in Paper Mario

A Fright Mask (formerly known as a Fright Jar) is an item in Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It makes a Bowser-like ghost appear and may frighten enemies, but not bosses, into retreating.

In Paper Mario, it resembles a small yellow jar with a green lid and a red "back" arrow on it. Enemies defeated with a Fright Jar do not give Star Points. In The Thousand-Year Door, the Fright Mask resembles Bowser's face with a dark blue hue and yellow eyes; enemies defeated with it only leave one Star Point. It is fairly common in this game and can be purchased in a few shops.
