== Offensive? == | |||
Take a look at the last trivia on the article? Is this concidered offensive (I think It is (just look at what it says) but I didn't want to revert the history to have it re-reverted).

== Super Mario Sequel ==
Given that the Wikipedia article on SMG discusses the sequel that will use leftover elements of SMG (as predicted by Shigeru Miyamoto), should we add this to our article? By the way, does anyone know when the next Space World is? ND IRISH ROCK! 09:13, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
:It actually has been said officially that the Super Mario Galaxy team is working hard on a new project, which can be expected in a year. We could mention it. What's a "Space World"? - 09:25, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

Why is Peach's artwork from Mario Party 8 in the gallery for Galaxy? - 12:43, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

Where does it appear? It's not in the manual. - 14:30, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
:It was one of the artwork pieces appearing on the website aussie-nintendo.com, with a bunch of other Galaxy artworks like Bowser, Bowser Jr. and Magikoopa, which were also uploaded here because the users saw them on that site first (now there are higher quality ones, of course). But I can't find the old article there anymore. --Grandy02 15:03, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

== "U R MR GAY" == | |||
You probably all know about this, but the title of the game on the box art has a few of the letters highlighted by small stars. These letters which are highlighted spell out "U R MR GAY" - and this became quite a phenomenon when it was discovered. I'm just wondering whether this deserves to mentioned in the article or not? If so, I expect it would go in the Trivia section.
06:23, 8 November 2008 (EST)
:We already had a proposal about the mention of YouTube Poop in articles such as Hotel Mario and Mama Luigi. The proposal failed, because it's fanon and unofficial. The same goes for this. Only if Nintendo made an official statement referring to "U R MR GAY" (like for the "subliminal message" in Ashley's theme), it would deserve a mention. --Grandy02 16:55, 30 November 2008 (EST)

==Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack==
Should the Super Mario Galaxy Soundtrack be a whole different article or be just part of the Super Mario Galaxy article? Or is there already that article?
| |||
:There are already several articles on soundtracks (see :Category:Music), so there's no problem with a separate article. --Grandy02 16:40, 30 November 2008 (EST)
== Chemical trivia == | |||
<blockquote>During a cutscene after completing the game Rosalina says, "When stars die, they turn to stardust and scatter across the cosmos. Eventually, that stardust reforms to create a new star...And so the cycle of life continues. But the cycle never repeats itself in quite the same way...". This bit of information is true about stars in real life. One might also say the same when she says, "All life contains the essence of stars, even you." The heat and light from all stars are from chemical reactions in (mostly) Hydrogen and Helium. Hydrogen is one of the four main elements found in all forms of life.</blockquote>
I doubt this information is really needed. True, stars (suns) get their energy by merging Hydrogen into Helium. True, Hydrogen, next to Carbon, Oxygen and Nitrogen is an essential substance for life on Earth. However, Super Mario Galaxy was never accurate with astronomical terms. It's fictional after all. "Galaxies" aren't as small in the real world, "stars" can only mean shining objects like the Sun and never planets with solid ground as in the game, third the planets themselves deny most laws of physics for having an atmosphere that spreads over multiple small planet systems which are stable.
I think that we should keep science out of the article as it doesn't really relate to the game at all. It's not realistic, and not attempting to be. - 13:01, 30 December 2008 (EST)
:Yes, that can be eliminated. If Rosalina had said something like "We are all made of Hydrogen," then we could include it, but she is only referring to a general, fictional concept. -- Son of Suns
::Not to mention that Carbon is the essential substance in organic chemistry and not Hydrogen. I'll remove the trivia part altogether. - 13:54, 30 December 2008 (EST)

== Trading Card Game == | |||
The Trivia names a trading card game based on the game and its official site. First, is this an actual trading card game or just collectable trading cards? Because the cards feature just pictures, but not any stats or something which is typical for a TCG. Second, do you think it deserves an article? Aside from the Japanese Donkey Kong Card Game, I have never read about such a big set of Mario-related trading cards. Third, those card images might also be useful because they show some artwork of characters and enemies I haven't seen anywhere else. --Grandy02 14:20, 5 July 2009 (EDT)
==Korean Name== | |||
Is there a reason the game's Korean name is here? It seems out-of-place and redundant for this English wiki. Toadster_04

==Puffer Fish/Porcu-Puffer enemy==
I was wondering if the puffer fish enemy that's found in the drip drop galaxy of Super Mario Galaxy was a Porcu-Puffer (the puffer fish found in SMW and NSMBwii) and if that is something that should be included in the wiki, maybe as "an enemy that looks similar to a Porcu-Puffer appears in the Drip Drop Galaxy of Super Mario Galaxy"? Mr.Julius

==Max Coins per Level==
Although it doesn't unlock anything, what is the max number of coins that can actually be collected, on each level? I haven't found any answers out there (though several people speculated/wondered). I only know the answer for the first 20 levels or so (with 95% confidence), but a wiki seems like the perfect tool to let other people add their knowledge. I tried adding a page 'Super Mario Galaxy Maximum Coins per Level', but it got deleted w/o comment (perhaps because it was missing so much?). Any suggestions, on starting a page for this to gather the info?

== The so-called "minigames" ==
We currently have articles on four "minigames" from this game, namely ray surfing, Bob-omb Blasting, Bubble Blowing, and Star Ball Rolling. However, only ray surfing is officially named in-game. I slapped ref needed templates on the others, but I'm pretty sure they're outright conjecture. (The conjecturally named minigames from SMG2, Crate Burning and Fluzzard Gliding, actually have conjecture templates.) I'm willing to spare Bob-omb Blasting since it's at least a defined minigame, but Bubble Blowing and Star Ball Rolling have got to go. They're not minigames. They're just game mechanics that this wiki is arbitrarily calling "minigames" for no explainable reason. Their existence is redundant with Bubble and Star Ball respectively, and if we keep them, we might as well create articles for other conjectural "minigames" like "Yoshi Riding" and "P-Balloon Floating." I mean, we don't even have a "Mushroom Ball Derby" article, and at least that's officially named. 15:10, 5 December 2017 (EST)

==Inconsistencies== | |||
I've noticed a lot of weird parts to this page, such as Cataquacks being listed as NPCs instead of enemies, or as freezing water and lava being enemies instead of some other type of hazard. Furthermore, the images on the main page don't reflect the images on the gallery page. == Inconsistency Discussion: who is and who is not a boss in Super Mario Galaxy? ==
There are some small inconsistencies in official material and our article on who the bosses of Super Mario Galaxy are. In our article, the bosses are: Dino Piranha, King Kaliente, Stink Bug Parent, Bugaboom, Megaleg, Kamella, Tarantox, Topmaniac, Bouldergeist, Major Burrows, Baron Brrr, Undergrunt Gunner, Kingfin, Bowser Jr., Bowser, and Fiery Dino Piranha.
On the official Japanese character index that was published in 2020, they also recognize the following as distinct bosses:
* オタキング(黒), the "burnt" iteration of King Kaliente from "King Kaliente's Spicy Return"
* エレキバズーカ, the iteration of the Undergrunt Gunner that shoots electricity in Toy Time Galaxy
King Kaliente proper and the water-shooting iteration of the Gunner are listed under separate entries in the index. The name convention for Kaliente mirrors the one used for Dino Piranha and Fiery Dino Piranha on the same page (as ディノパックン and ディノパックン(黒), respectively), as well as reflect an overall trend with Mario bosses that have counterparts of a different color. (e.g. Bowser and Bowser's Brother recognized as クッパ and クッパ(青), respectively, in The Lost Levels or Hisstocrat and its pink counterpart as ヘビースネーク and ヘビースネーク(ピンク).) On our article for Galaxy, we recognize Dino Piranha and Fiery Dino Piranha as two seperate bosses while we list King Kaliente as one. This may in part stem from the fact that the Dino Piranhas have some pretty distinct behaviors, but it still seems inconsistent. Even if we are weighing behavior heavily here, both iterations of the Undergrunt Gunner are pretty distinctive in behavior and could potentially be listed with separate entries. On the 3D World article, the Hisstocrat and its pink iteration have one entry, but it is at least noted that the pink version is a somewhat separate entity and they each have their own separate articles on the wiki. The "burnt" King Kaliente does not.
How should we resolve these inconsistencies? Should Fiery Dino Piranha be merged with Dino Piranha in the Galaxy article? (My preference is "no") Should we list each Undergrunt Gunner as separate bosses? (my preference is "yes") Should we list both King Kalientes as separate bosses? (my thought is "maybe") – Nintendo101 (talk) 19:10, March 4, 2021 (EST)

::Water Bazooka and Electric Bazooka have their own discussion under Undergrunt Gunner's page. I personally think splitting them would be at the very least difficult to do cleanly since "Undergrunt Gunner" is said in-game in SMG, but I suppose they could be listed as "Undergrunt Gunner in Water Bazooka or some such thing. Another thing to add to the Kaliente and Dino thing is Gobblegut in SMG2 is treated the same way (those listings are taken straight from the Japanese Encyclopedia, by the way). Another note, I personally feel Mecha-Bowser is as much a "boss" as Megaleg. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:58, March 4, 2021 (EST)
:::I'm not sure it is necessarily to split up the main articles for Undergrunt Gunner and King Kaliente in the same way green and red Koopa Troopas share the same article. However, with regards to giving each one seperate entries in the main Galaxy article, it's a distinction that's potentially valid for a similar reason: in the returning enemy chart on the article, "Koopa Troopa (green)" and "Koopa Troopa (red)" are given separate entries. I think it would be helpful to have shared information between official material and what is in the Galaxy article, especially if the SMG2 boss chart follows the same convention. (Though I totally think it is worth evaluating Mecha-Bowser as a proper boss at some point: I thought it was one when I was a kid, and it at least felt similar to a boss fight when I replayed Galaxy recently. I think the only thing that makes Mecha-Bowser a different case is how it is framed in-game and that I don't think Mecha Bowser has any way of directly causing damage to Mario. Megaleg can at least step on him. But I could be mistaken. It's still worth discussing, in my opinion.) – Nintendo101 (talk) 20:41, March 4, 2021 (EST)
==Mecha Bowser== | |||
I noticed that Mecha Bowser's theme is simular to the underground theme from Super Mario Land. though this might be coïncinental I think that someone should add it to the references section 80.57.88.144 11:00, April 10, 2021 (EDT)
:I'm not sure everyone would agree they sound similar, so I would be a little more specific on how. I personally think they do not sound that same.

== The 1991 Nintendo Power detail and the purpose behind a trivia section ==
Hey, I recently re-placed the note about the 1991 Nintendo Power article from the beginning of the page to the trivia section. The note reads:
"Coincidentally, the title "Super Mario Galaxy" was first mentioned in a fan letter written to Nintendo Power by Jimmy Peterford of Glen Cove, New York in December 1991. The letter detailed a fantasy game console called the "Raw Power System", which would come bundled with a game named "Super Mario Galaxy", or in Peterford's words, would be "better known as Super Mario Bros. 24!""
I understand the desire to keep a trivia section small - I am not against that. But if we are going to have a trivia section at all, and we want to include the Nintendo Power thing on this page, than I really think this specific detail should be moved back to the trivia section. I really don't think it belongs in the beginning of the article as it has nothing to do with the actual Wii game. It really feels like a pace-breaker in learning about the game because it is a trivial detail that does not really fit anywhere else. Curious to know what others think. - Nintendo101 (talk) 12:36, December 30, 2021 (EST)
:Honestly it does seem like the kind of thing that would be trivia to me too. Saying that the game's title was coincidentally used as a joke in a magazine over a decade earlier doesn't seem opening-worthy at all. -- 12:39, December 30, 2021 (EST)
::I appreciate your insight. My revision was originally reversed by Somethingone. It's not a big deal, but I hope they see my comment here to see what they think. - Nintendo101 (talk) 16:09, December 30, 2021 (EST)
:::Sorry about that, I just thought the incorporate trivia thing in the spotlight meant incorporating as much trivia as possible. I'd be fine with it I guess, now that you bring it up.Somethingone (talk) 16:16, December 30, 2021 (EST)
Some people take the "Incorporate Trivia sections in the main as much as possible" advice too literally. "A old fan letter in an official magazine coincidentally happened to mention a fictitious game with the exact same name as a real one released much later" is literally trivia. It makes no sense to put it in the lead. --Glowsquid (talk) 16:14, December 30, 2021 (EST) |

Offensive?[edit]
Take a look at the last trivia on the article? Is this concidered offensive (I think It is (just look at what it says) but I didn't want to revert the history to have it re-reverted).
- i dont see anything offensive, but it might have been removed. i think i no wat it is though (the stars on the box?) Jakeyboy01 10:25, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
- Yes. Miniscule, RANDOMLY PLACED stars on the box. They are touching U, R, M, another R, G, A,Y. An entire coincidence.GreenKoopa - Comments or questions?
- Yeah, but in theory they are also touching n A, a G and another A.
Super Mario Sequel[edit]
Given that the Wikipedia article on SMG discusses the sequel that will use leftover elements of SMG (as predicted by Shigeru Miyamoto), should we add this to our article? By the way, does anyone know when the next Space World is? ND IRISH ROCK! 09:13, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
- It actually has been said officially that the Super Mario Galaxy team is working hard on a new project, which can be expected in a year. We could mention it. What's a "Space World"? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 09:25, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
Peach's artwork[edit]
Why is Peach's artwork from Mario Party 8 in the gallery for Galaxy? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 12:43, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
- My question exactly. I'm thinking the Peach artwork should be kept from where it was first seen. And it was first seen for Mario Party 8. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Fan! 13:11, 3 September 2008 (EDT) User Page | Talk Page
- A lot of the artwork in recent games is recycled. And so is Peach's artwork. --Grandy02 14:27, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
Where does it appear? It's not in the manual. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 14:30, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
- It was one of the artwork pieces appearing on the website aussie-nintendo.com, with a bunch of other Galaxy artworks like Bowser, Bowser Jr. and Magikoopa, which were also uploaded here because the users saw them on that site first (now there are higher quality ones, of course). But I can't find the old article there anymore. --Grandy02 15:03, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
Sequel article[edit]
I think we should do an article for the sequel, because we have some informations about it.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Koopalmier (talk).

- Yeah, AFAIK Nintendo has confirmed that there will be a sequel. Don't know if we need an article yet though. Time Questions 14:53, 8 September 2008 (EDT)
"U R MR GAY"[edit]
You probably all know about this, but the title of the game on the box art has a few of the letters highlighted by small stars. These letters which are highlighted spell out "U R MR GAY" - and this became quite a phenomenon when it was discovered. I'm just wondering whether this deserves to mentioned in the article or not? If so, I expect it would go in the Trivia section.
»» What? Are you laughing, huh!? 06:23, 8 November 2008 (EST)
- We already had a proposal about the mention of YouTube Poop in articles such as Hotel Mario and Mama Luigi.
- My opinion about UR MR GAY. It must be a dirty work from a Sony Fanboy or a perverted designer who hates Mario or was paid by Sony to do that.Kastle Kaos 17:16, 30 November 2008 (EST)
It sound more like subliminal message too me. Grapes That's kinda of creepy and odd.

Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack[edit]
Should the Super Mario Galaxy Soundtrack be a whole different article or be just part of the Super Mario Galaxy article? Or is there already that article?
- There are already several articles on soundtracks (see Category:Music), so there's no problem with a separate article. --Grandy02 16:40, 30 November 2008 (EST)
Chemical trivia[edit]
During a cutscene after completing the game Rosalina says, "When stars die, they turn to stardust and scatter across the cosmos. Hydrogen is one of the four main elements found in all forms of life.
- Cobold (talk · contribs) 13:01, 30 December 2008 (EST)
- Yes, that can be eliminated. If Rosalina had said something like "We are all made of Hydrogen," then we could include it, but she is only referring to a general, fictional concept. -- Son of Suns (talk)
Unknown, Unlisted enemy[edit]
I noticed that an enemy that appeared in the Toy Time Galaxy is not listed as one of the enemies. I don't know the name of the enemy but its a silver robot that shoots a laser at Mario/Luigi. Just pointing this out. MapleTree Productions 11:36, 25 April 2009 (EST)
- Nevermind I added it in. MapleTree Productions 11:44, 10 May 2009 (EST)

Trading Card Game[edit]
The Trivia names a trading card game based on the game and its official site. First, is this an actual trading card game or just collectable trading cards? Because the cards feature just pictures, but not any stats or something which is typical for a TCG. Second, do you think it deserves an article? Aside from the Japanese Donkey Kong Card Game, I have never read about such a big set of Mario-related trading cards. Third, those card images might also be useful because they show some artwork of characters and enemies I haven't seen anywhere else. --Grandy02 14:20, 5 July 2009 (EDT)
Korean Name[edit]
Is there a reason the game's Korean name is here? It seems out-of-place and redundant for this English wiki. Toadster_04 (talk)
- We cover names from other languages, but I agree that it looked misplaced, since it is neither the orignal title nor an alternate English title. Therefore, I moved it to "Names in Other Languages." --Grandy02 15:04, 27 August 2009 (EDT)

Requirements for minor galaxies[edit]

What Galaxy is this in?[edit]
On the page, it says "Yellow Shockwave Inducing Creature", yet I cannot find it in the game. What Galaxy is it in?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by BubbleRevolution (talk).
I think it's just in the jappanes version. gamer2.1 (talk)

Or it could still be the spiky sentry beam from the dreadnought galaxy. Koopas lost shell 09:47, 15 September 2016 (EDT)
Puffer Fish/Porcu-Puffer enemy[edit]
I was wondering if the puffer fish enemy that's found in the drip drop galaxy of Super Mario Galaxy was a Porcu-Puffer (the puffer fish found in SMW and NSMBwii) and if that is something that should be included in the wiki, maybe as "an enemy that looks similar to a Porcu-Puffer appears in the Drip Drop Galaxy of Super Mario Galaxy"?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mr.Julius (talk).
New Artwork?[edit]

Max Coins per Level[edit]
Although it doesn't unlock anything, what is the max number of coins that can actually be collected, on each level? I haven't found any answers out there (though several people speculated/wondered). I only know the answer for the first 20 levels or so (with 95% confidence), but a wiki seems like the perfect tool to let other people add their knowledge. I tried adding a page 'Super Mario Galaxy Maximum Coins per Level', but it got deleted w/o comment (perhaps because it was missing so much?). Any suggestions, on starting a page for this to gather the info? not-just-yeti 08:03, 16 March 2010 (EDT)

- There's a policy (MarioWiki:New_articles#Level_articles) that states that every mission needs to have its own page. I did this with the Super Mario 64 levels earlier and am planning to do this with Sunshine and Galaxy as well. In other words, don't worry. It may be a while before the information will be added, but I (or someone else) will get to it eventually :) 15:21, 28 February 2017 (EST)

The so-called "minigames"[edit]
- Isn't the Star Ball Rolling page like completely redundant with the Star Ball page? Ray Trace(T|C) 15:15, 5 December 2017 (EST)

Inconsistencies[edit]
I've noticed a lot of weird parts to this page, such as Cataquacks being listed as NPCs instead of enemies, or as freezing water and lava being enemies instead of some other type of hazard. In fact, I wouldn't even think it would need mentioned at all. Furthermore, the images on the main page don't reflect the images on the gallery page. The cataquack, for example, is nowhere to be found, and many images are differently sorted or simply not in one or the other. Trig - 19:04, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
Bowser Jr. and Kamek's Artwork[edit]
Both images of Bowser Jr. and Kamek are supposed to be promotional artwork for Super Mario Galaxy, but if so, why is it not included in the SMG manual. Rosalina's artwork is included. --Dogleader (talk) 16:12, November 6, 2020 (EST)
- Game artwork is not solely derived from the instruction manual: they also come from websites, press releases, guides, and other resources affiliated with the games. - Nintendo101 (talk) 12:11, April 10, 2021 (EDT)
Inconsistency Discussion: who is and who is not a boss in Super Mario Galaxy?[edit]
- オタキング(黒), the "burnt" iteration of King Kaliente from "King Kaliente's Spicy Return"
- エレキバズーカ, the iteration of the Undergrunt Gunner that shoots electricity in Toy Time Galaxy

- Water Bazooka and Electric Bazooka have their own discussion under Undergrunt Gunner's page.
- I'm not sure it is necessarily to split up the main articles for Undergrunt Gunner and King Kaliente in the same way green and red Koopa Troopas share the same article.

Mecha Bowser[edit]
I noticed that Mecha Bowser's theme is simular to the underground theme from Super Mario Land. though this might be coïncinental I think that someone should add it to the references section 80.57.88.144 11:00, April 10, 2021 (EDT)
- I'm not sure everyone would agree they sound similar, so I would be a little more specific on how. I personally think they do not sound that same.
- I'm inclined to think that any similarity between the pieces would be coincidental since the games were made by different teams and released decades apart from each other. - Nintendo101 (talk) 12:10, April 10, 2021 (EDT)
The 1991 Nintendo Power detail and the purpose behind a trivia section[edit]
- Honestly it does seem like the kind of thing that would be trivia to me too. Saying that the game's title was coincidentally used as a joke in a magazine over a decade earlier doesn't seem opening-worthy at all. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 12:39, December 30, 2021 (EST)

- Sorry about that, I just thought the incorporate trivia thing in the spotlight meant incorporating as much trivia as possible.

--Glowsquid (talk) 16:14, December 30, 2021 (EST)
