First appearance Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988)
Latest appearance Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition (2010)

A Hot Foot[1] is a flame-like enemy that first appears in Super Mario Bros. 3. Here, Hot Feet inhabit the candles of fortresses, first appearing in World 4-Fortress 1. Similarly to a Boo, if Mario or Luigi look at a Hot Foot, it will stand still, but if he looks away, the Hot Foot will resume walking towards him. Hot Feet can be defeated only by Hammer Mario's hammers or touching them while invincible.

In The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, only one Hot Foot ever appears, the episode "Princess Toadstool for President," where it leaps off its candle and chases after Mario and Luigi for a brief time.

In Super Mario Bros. Print World, a Hot Foot is included as one of the printable pictures.

In the Nintendo Adventure Book, Koopa Capers, several Hot Feet appear guarding a coin-filled cave Luigi can find in the Magma Pits. After he collects some of the coins, the Hot Feet chase him, leading him to either a Fire Chomp (which can lead to a Game Over) or a door leading to a chamber filled with Firesnakes. Referencing the confusion over the plural version of their name, Luigi is unable to decide on whether to call them Hot Feet or Hot Foots.

Huh? The candle flame!

It pretends to be a candle on the wall, a treacherous thing. Only the flame will follow you at any moment. Like Boo (p. 116), it stops when you face forward, so turn around from time to time.
