== Invalid vote? ==
== If someone gets blocked on another wikipedia, then does it mean that they get blocked on other wikis too? ==

Hi, I know Ghost Jam's vote on [[Talk:Frog#Split Frog and cut down on its genericness, part 2|this proposal I initiated]] '''used''' to be valid due to it being rushed out and having an overflow of options as a result at the time, but now it's not since I learned from some of my mistakes and changed it again to just featuring three options. Is it okay if I just go ahead and strike through it? {{User:Toadette the Achiever/sig}} 22:34, 22 December 2018 (EST)
:You should message Ghost Jam. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 22:35, 22 December 2018 (EST)
::I'll try messaging him using a copy-paste of the above message, but I thought I might talk to you first since he isn't that active anymore. I mean, since you're an admin, I'm fairly certain you could start a discussion on whether to remove the vote or not, as per rule 5 of proposals. {{User:Toadette the Achiever/sig}} 22:41, 22 December 2018 (EST)
:::Rules say you are to message the voter. He's active, so he should see your message soon. Otherwise, I'll ping him on Discord later. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 22:47, 22 December 2018 (EST)
::::Did you happen to contact Ghost Jam on Discord yet? I'm just wondering because he still hasn't responded to my message yet, and I have no way of knowing if he even read it. {{User:Toadette the Achiever/sig}} 12:46, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:::::He already adjusted his vote. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 12:50, 25 December 2018 (EST)

== How Do You Do It? ==

Just out of curiosity, how do you keep track of the recent changes on this wiki? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 22:40, 23 December 2018 (EST)
:[[Special:RecentChanges]]. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 22:51, 23 December 2018 (EST)

How do you track down a blocked user who edits under a different username? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 19:15, 26 December 2018 (EST)
:Staff members have a way to check user IP addresses. If there's a match with a blocked user, action will be taken. But IPs can be dynamic, so it may not be 100% accurate. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 19:16, 26 December 2018 (EST)

After I suggested you track down the user who added "Green Yoshi" to the Yoshi article, I was surprised to see you respond with that revision (which was done in 2008). How were you able to do that in a short amount of time? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 20:47, 29 December 2018 (EST)
:I went to the page history and checked the 200th (bottom-most) revision on each page, then moved on to the next 200th. When the "Green Yoshi" name disappeared, I knew it was within that specific 200 number range, so I checked the 100th edit on that page and narrowed it down from there. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 20:50, 29 December 2018 (EST)

== Better Image ==

If I find a better image of something and want to upload it on one of these wiki pages, and I allowed to delete the old image? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 00:30, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:You can't delete an image yourself, but you can mark the old image for deletion. If it's the same extension, just overwrite it using the "Upload a new version" button below the image history. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 00:35, 24 December 2018 (EST)

== Reverted Edits ==

You told me not to remove a comma in a list of more than two items in a sentence. I don't think I did. In the sentence "Yoshi's initial design is more dinosaur-like, with a narrower, longer, more hunched appearance, and shorter arms," I previously removed the comma after "appearance" because the sentence really has only two subjects in the second phrase: "appearance" and "arms." The phrase "a narrower, longer, more hunched" describes "appearance," while "shorter" describes "arms." The former has commas separating interchangeable adjectives, while the latter has only one adjective. As such, I don't think a comma should be after "appearance." Please let me know if you agree.

Also, I'm not trying to argue about one of my edits you reverted (in particular, "Yoshi Egg"), but before I lowercased "Egg" in "Yoshi Egg," I went to this wiki's Yoshi Egg article to be sure. In the very first sentence of the article and in most of the article, it was spelled "Yoshi egg." If "Egg" in the phrase needs to be capitalized, are the "Yoshi egg"s in the "Yoshi Egg" article typos? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 11:35, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:I agree with the comma removal.
:First instance of [[Yoshi Egg]] and in the page title is a proper noun. I don't think usages of "Yoshi egg" in the article are incorrect, that's likely what they were called in those games. The most recent spelling is "Yoshi Egg", but the article may need to be double-checked. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 11:42, 24 December 2018 (EST)

You changed the full name of Bowser Jr. from "Prince Bowser Koopa Junior" to "Bowser Junior" on the basis that it isn't stated in game. In both Super Smash Brothers for Wii U/3ds and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Bowser Jr. is referred to as "Prince of the Koopas" which is where the "Prince" comes from. His surname was taken from Bowser's page as was the formatting of his title. Due to this, I believe that his full name should be changed to "Prince Bowser Koopa Junior."
:"Prince Bowser Koopa Junior" is not actually used in a game as his name, iirc. Doesn't matter about the speculation or theory. "Prince of the Koopas" is a title rather than a name. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 20:35, 2 January 2019 (EST)

== Mario Riddle ==

Here's a Mario riddle I came up with. Luigi walks to Princess Peach's castle, looking for Mario. When Luigi arrives, he doesn't find Mario there. Luigi enters the castle and searches a number of rooms for him, but he doesn't find him.  Afterwards, Luigi walks into the hall and sees Mario in the distance, complete with his red cap, long-sleeved red shirt, blue overalls with yellow buttons, white gloves, brown shoes, and mustache. Luigi calls to Mario but gets no response. Confused, Luigi walks up to him to make sure he's okay. Upon closer inspection, however, Luigi realizes that it's not the real Mario. How did he know? (Hint: He knew this without touching Mario) [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 13:48, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:I'm stumped. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 14:07, 24 December 2018 (EST)

Answer: Luigi saw that the red cap didn't have an "M" on it. [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 14:25, 24 December 2018 (EST)

Does the answer make sense? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 15:10, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:Yeah, just wasn't able to get to that answer. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 15:12, 24 December 2018 (EST)

== Game content ==

On this wiki's Rain Shower article, it says that Bowser throws paint balloons; in the rules of the game from Game & Watch Gallery 4, it says that he throws water balloons. They do look like paint balloons, but are they paint balloons or water balloons? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 15:09, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:If the game doesn't say anything about paint balloons, then yeah, make the change. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 15:12, 24 December 2018 (EST)

== Praise ==

The rules of this wiki say not to tell admins what to do. Does that mean that I'm not allowed to tell you to "keep up the good work"? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 18:02, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:Nah, that's fine, but try not to fill up talk pages too much ;) {{User:Alex95/sig}} 19:45, 24 December 2018 (EST)

== About BF and FD ==

Since you've moved the talk since I've gone on vacation, I have to start a new section. Anyways, in the "Smash!" section of SSBU, the game itself lists those stages (and Big Battlefield) at the beginning with the SSB stages, instead of at the end with the new stages. While it can be argued that this was for easiness for locating, they could have just as easily reversed the whole layout to have new stages first. [[User:Doc von Schmeltwick|Doc von Schmeltwick]] ([[User talk:Doc von Schmeltwick|talk]]) 22:44, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:I guess so, but they are ''Smash'' specific stages, not based on any other franchise. While, yes, the layouts don't change, the design is unique to each game, making the stage unique to each ''Smash''.
:I really don't know what else to add, so we may just end up talking in circles. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 22:47, 24 December 2018 (EST)
::My point is that the game itself is listing them with the ''Smash'' 64 stages, indicating that they are officially qualified as returning stages, from that game, and listing them as new each time is now officially wrong, and not just factually. [[User:Doc von Schmeltwick|Doc von Schmeltwick]] ([[User talk:Doc von Schmeltwick|talk]]) 22:49, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:::They've been listed at the start since ''Brawl'', it's just the order of the other stages that changed. Because of that, I don't see how the order of the other stages mean anything. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 22:51, 24 December 2018 (EST)
::::In SSBU, all the stages are listed chronologically by game. [[User:Doc von Schmeltwick|Doc von Schmeltwick]] ([[User talk:Doc von Schmeltwick|talk]]) 23:01, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:::::Again, doesn't mean anything. BF and FD weren't named or selectable in ''Smash 64'', and Big BF certainly wasn't available then. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 23:54, 24 December 2018 (EST)
::::::It's a variation of BF. Either way, whether it's selectable or not originally is far more pointless than the position on the SSBU stage select. [[User:Doc von Schmeltwick|Doc von Schmeltwick]] ([[User talk:Doc von Schmeltwick|talk]]) 23:59, 24 December 2018 (EST)
:::::::I could ask people on SmashWiki what they think, or something should be said on ''Ultimate''{{'}}s talk page. I don't think we're going to solve anything with just the two of us. There's nothing that actually says they are new stages in text, but there's also nothing saying they're returning stages, either. That distinction would've been made in ''Brawl''. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 00:02, 25 December 2018 (EST)

== Help Wanted: Rewriting Articles ==

I notice that some of these wiki articles have boxes requesting the articles be rewritten, apparently because of loaded information. Perhaps I could help with that if I knew which sections you recommend be rewritten. I think I'll start with the Yoshi article. Which sections in it need to be rewritten to meet the wiki's writing standards? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 09:12, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:Well, "Green Yoshi" could use a citation. The ''Super Mario World'' Television Series and ''Fortune Street'' sections are specifically asking for a rewrite, though the latter is more of a stub (I could probably do something with that later). Otherwise, give each section a read and see what you can improve on. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 11:25, 25 December 2018 (EST)

So far, I haven't any luck finding a citation for "Green Yoshi." Perhaps if you track down the user on this wiki who typed in the article that Yoshi is sometimes specified as Green Yoshi, I could ask that user where he or she found that information. [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 22:15, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:[https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=Yoshi&diff=490474&oldid=489224 This] was the revision that added it, but the user who added it is no longer active. Luckily though, according to his edit summary, it came from the ''Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island'' manual. So that's something! But a page number would be helpful, and whether or not it's referring to Yoshi or [[Green Yoshi]]. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 22:26, 25 December 2018 (EST)

The green Yoshi is called "Yoshi" on page five in the Yoshi's Island instruction manual, and the phrase "The Green Yoshi" is mentioned on page six, according to the YouTube video "Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island - Game Manual (SNES) (Instruction Booklet)" uploaded by Game Instruction Manual Retro. [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 01:10, 26 December 2018 (EST)
:Awesome! {{User:Alex95/sig}} 13:58, 26 December 2018 (EST)

I've read the Super Mario World TV series section on the Yoshi article, but I don't really see anything wrong with it. In what way do you want the section to be rewritten? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 20:02, 26 December 2018 (EST)
:I'm not sure, I've only seen one or two of the episodes. Maybe it's asking for someone to check if there are any missing episodes with Yoshi? It says Yoshi appears in every episode, but I'm pretty sure there are more than what's listed (maybe). The list could maybe also be moved to something similar to [[List of Super Mario World episodes featuring Mario]]? {{User:Alex95/sig}} 20:07, 26 December 2018 (EST)

On YouTube, there are only 13 episodes of the series, and Wikipedia also says that the show has only 13 episodes, along with seven Captain N ones. [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 20:22, 26 December 2018 (EST)
:Oh, then maybe just a grammar check. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 20:27, 26 December 2018 (EST)

== Uploading Images ==

I'm trying to upload a better image of the Modern mode of the G&W game Parachute and an image of the Game & Watch Gallery 2 version of the game Donkey Kong. I copied the image address of each, typed in one of them in the URL address box on the "Upload file" page, correctly categorized it, and tried to upload it. The page said, "There was a problem during the HTTP request: 404 Not Found." I tried to upload the other image by repeating the above and got the same result. Do you have any idea what the message means? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 15:30, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:What's the URL? {{User:Alex95/sig}} 15:48, 25 December 2018 (EST)

The one for Parachute: https://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/1/24822-game-watch-gallery-2-game-boy-color-screenshot-game-parachute.jpg

The one for Donkey Kong: https://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/1/24820-game-watch-gallery-2-game-boy-color-screenshot-game-donkey.jpg [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 16:08, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:Ah, the problem is the different file type. The images you are trying to replace are PNGs, but your replacements are JPGs. Honestly, best keep them PNGs. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 16:09, 25 December 2018 (EST)

Are you saying I can't upload the images? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 16:12, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:For one thing, the images aren't displaying for me for some reason, so I can't compare them :/ The images should remain as PNGs, there's nothing wrong with them currently. But if you can find a PNG replacement, that'd be fine. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 16:14, 25 December 2018 (EST)

I succeeded in uploading an image of Parachute (though I'll probably replace it with one that shows the player's score) and am about to save changes to the Parachute article. Before I do, how do I mark the image I think should be deleted? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 18:15, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:You mark something you wanted deleted with {{tem|delete}} with an optional reason (<nowiki>{{delete|[[:File:Image.png|replaced]]}}</nowiki> for example). The image you uploaded is very large, though. Any chance you can find one that matches the original screen size? {{User:Alex95/sig}} 18:18, 25 December 2018 (EST)

I typed in the size I believe the image should be on the article, and the preview page has it as that size. [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 18:22, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:No, I mean the actual image size should be as close to accurate as possible. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 18:23, 25 December 2018 (EST)

I'll look for another image. Is there any way I can copy and paste an image address on my tablet if the only source of viewing the image is to go to the webpage, meaning I can view the image but not click on it to view its URL address? I found a smaller image but couldn't view its URL address. [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 18:35, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:I don't use a tablet, so I'm not sure. Usually, holding down on something will cause a menu to show, maybe with a "Copy image location" option. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 18:37, 25 December 2018 (EST)

It actually worked! Thanks. I'll try to upload the image on the Parachute article, but do you think the Super Nintendo image should be on the article? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 19:11, 25 December 2018 (EST)
:You're welcome, and yes. btw, you have to mark the image for deletion on its own page, not on the article it is placed on. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 19:13, 25 December 2018 (EST)

What do you mean by a request for deleting an image should be on its own page? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 19:22, 25 December 2018 (EST)

Hi, I've come back to tell you something regarding the Bowser Castle music from Mario Kart DS is that it used a sample from the Michael Jackson song Black or White. Mainly the Mario Kart ones. So are you gonna edit the DS Bowser Castle race course page to add the information that i've just told you and by the way, here's the spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JJBlHHDc65fhZmKUGLrDTLCm6rfUU83-kbuD8Y0zU0o/edit?pli=1#gid=717751203). I see some image descriptions with a comma after the character's name when talking about the game they're in or what they're doing (e.g., "Mario, in Parachute," "Yoshi, hammering a Paratroopa in Vermin...," "Peach, cooking in Chef," "Mario, jumping over a Goomba," "Toad, as a host"). Are the commas supposed to be there? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 20:46, 25 December 2018 (EST)

At times, I noticed that, when I tried to edit the really long articles, a message appeared, saying that the pages were "protected to prevent vandalism." Some pages I'm talking about are "Mario," "Luigi," "Yoshi," "Super Mario World," and "Super Mario Odyssey," all of which I tried to edit and wasn't able to do so at times. I figured that if the edit button doesn't appear next to every section title on an article, as I saw on mobile view, normal users can't edit it at the moment. When I did see the edit button on all article section titles, I edited them numerous times. When I tried to edit them again a few weeks later, the wiki wouldn't let me, again saying the pages were protected. However, I didn't try to do so on desktop view. This sentence has been like this on [[Aces High]] since near the page's creation: "The only way the player can get rid of the following Bullet Bill is to do an off-course and get rid of it." Do you think you can make the sentence sound better? I asked Mario jc this a few days ago, but he didn't reply. Do you have an answer to my question? [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 17:04, July 5, 2021 (EDT)
:I think by "off-course", it means the player has to flying into the course's barrier, which will make them do an immediate U-Turn. The action would result in the Bullet Bill flying past them. I haven't played ''MP3'' in a long time, but that's how I'm understanding it. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 00:37, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
::Mario jc did reply to my question, saying, "Maybe it can be changed to 'The only way the player can evade a Bullet Bill pursuing them is to veer away from its trajectory.' but this is based on footage I watched since I don't own the game." Now I'm wondering whether the sentence is referring to how a player can get rid of a Bullet Bill he or she launched or how a player can avoid it, the former sounding more likely. [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 01:11, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
::Maybe I misinterpreted "following Bullet Bill" as meaning the first Bullet Bill that a player launches. [[User:Dwhitney|Dwhitney]] ([[User talk:Dwhitney|talk]]) 01:41, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
:::I think "following Bullet Bill" is referring the the Bullet Bill that is going after a player. I think this might work: "If being chased by a Bullet Bill, the player needs to head toward the arena's barrier, which will cause them to automatically turn around and make the Bullet Bill miss." Someone with ''MP3'' should verify, however. If only there was some kind of retro digital service Nintendo could've put this game on... {{User:Alex95/sig}} 13:36, July 6, 2021 (EDT)

Hello, I am new as an editor to the Mario Wiki.  I believe as a result of this, I cannot overwrite some existing images which I have found higher quality scans of. (Specifically, on https://www.mariowiki.com/Gallery:Wario_Land:_Super_Mario_Land_3 ) I'm sorry if this is mentioned anywhere else, or obvious to common wiki users, I am very new to wiki editing.  I did a scan of the help sections and could find nothing mentioning this.  How do I go about getting the rights to replace these images? Or is there a way I can submit the source of the higher quality scans for a user with the rights to use?
==Ban==
To explain in short before other users question the reason, Alex95 is banned due to a sitewide consensus on our Discord channel: he had been asking large sums of money from multiple community members, and while he likely not directly involved with the alleged fraud that may have happened, he was still heavily complicit in his situation and we are banning him for the general safety of the community. He has also admitted that he shared his account with a third party who may have involved with the alleged fraud. Due to that, his ranks have additionally been stripped. He is [https://www.marioboards.com/members/5162/ additionally banned] on the forum and on our Discord. {{User:Ray Trace/sig}} 01:20, April 3, 2022 (EDT)

== Thank you for help and another question ==
Would every NIWA wiki ban him as well?

Hello, thank you for your help! I don't really know why the file replacement option wasn't there before, but it is now. The file I am attempting to upload is a png, but the one I'm replacing is a jpeg.  When I attempt to replace it, it points this out.  Should I just upload a completely new file in this case, and replace every instance of the original? Thank you again for the help.
{{User:Remembered Old Buddy/sig}}

Ah yes.  Something seemed to have happened when I uploaded it after I refreshed, so I reverted the file. I'll look into what happened.  Also, do you have to manually resize a new image to fit the boxes it's in on every page?
I think so. It’s the only logical choice. {{User:OhoJeeOnFire/sig}}

Block.svg Alex95 has been blocked indefinitely from editing the Super Mario Wiki for sitewide staff consensus regarding his behavior with alleged fraud and admitted account sharing.
See the block log.
Status: Fairly active. Other priorities are taking...priority, but I'm still around and can be contacted. Will be days where I just don't show up.
Current project: No focus for this wiki at the moment.

RULES
  1. Standard Mario Wiki rules apply, of course. No spamming, trolling, vandalizing, removing comments, etc. Please follow the rules, your comment will get removed otherwise. You don't have to sign your comments here, but it'll make it easier for me to get back to you if you do.
  2. No swearing or obscenity. These words will get edited out ASAP.
  3. Please don't ask why I reverted or corrected your edit. Usually, I have a good reason and can back it up. Take a look at my contributions or the page history for more information regarding your edit, if available. If you must, you can ask for clarification, but only if you provide more than "Why did you delete my edit?!" (which will get removed).
  4. Questions about my Power Master games and/or YouTube videos are fine. There are other places for those kinds of talk, of course, but I don't mind them on here.
  5. Any questions relating to a different wiki, please post on my talk page there. If you're here to complain about a block I gave you on other wikis, your comment will be removed, though I may clarify a block on Discord if needed. Though if you need my immediate attention elsewhere, you can notify me here (or Discord), as I'm more active here than anywhere else.
  6. I'm a friendly guy and am willing to engage in friendly conversation, so long as the sections don't become too excessive. If a topic header already exists for your question, please post under that.
  7. I will archive once this talk page reaches 200 messages. Please do not make any message telling me to archive. It's a waste of a notification, and it will be removed.
  8. Unless it's an important response you should know about or if I started the conversation on your page, I will respond here.
  9. I welcome friendship, but only if I know you well enough.

If someone gets blocked on another wikipedia, then does it mean that they get blocked on other wikis too?[edit]

If someone gets blocked on another wiki, than does it mean that they get blocked on other wikis too? This does not include fandoms (ones like mario.fandom.com. spongebob.fandom.com the 2 gone tantrum.fandom.com and other ones too. 107.146.244.150 15:20, June 1, 2021 (EDT)

Not usually. If you get blocked here, you won't get blocked on SmashWiki, for example. Unless you did something very wrong.
"tantrum.fandom", sheesh. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:30, June 1, 2021 (EDT)

OK. 107.146.244.150 20:49, June 1, 2021 (EDT)

I had also submitted a Do you like SpongeBob poll yesterday? and I hope it gets selected as the next poll. 107.146.244.150 18:43, June 2, 2021 (EDT)

Has nothing to with Mario or the wiki, so I doubt it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 19:21, June 2, 2021 (EDT)

I also remember submitting a poll to the wiki about do you think Nintendo will celebrate The Legend of Zelda's 35th Anniversary but it got declined. I was not happy. 107.146.244.150 15:40, June 6, 2021 (EDT)

OK. 107.146.244.150 15:40, June 6, 2021 (EDT)

Bowser Castle music (Mario Kart DS)[edit]

Hi, I've come back to tell you something regarding the Bowser Castle music from Mario Kart DS is that it used a sample from the Michael Jackson song Black or White. I found that on the spreadsheet which i have told you about many times. MarioKartFan4863927 14:47, June 6, 2021 (EST)

Honestly complete forgot about that spreadsheet, but what's your examples? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:35, June 6, 2021 (EDT)

MarioKartFan4863927 19:02, June 7, 2021 (EST)

Will look more into it later. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:05, June 7, 2021 (EDT)

Ok. MarioKartFan4863927 16:15, June 8, 2021 (EST)

I listened to both MKDS's Bowser Castle and Michael Jackson's Black or White, and they don't sound at all the same to me. Bowser Castle is actually a slowed down remix of the Airship Fortress theme at times. If there are specific points in the soundtracks you are referring to, point me to them, but I'm pretty sure any connections are coincidental. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:47, June 8, 2021 (EDT)

If you look on the spreadsheet, The song "Black or White" is listed under Mario Kart DS as a sample not a remix. MarioKartFan4863927 16:28, June 9, 2021 (EST)

I looked at timestamp 0:57. Not hearing it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:35, June 9, 2021 (EDT)

Help wanted: rewriting articles[edit]

I found some errors on MarioWiki:Glossary. What's in bold is how I believe the text should be corrected.

  • "A device that allows players to cheat in a game by accessing the game's code."
  • "Also used as an umbrella term for all the promoted ranks (sysops, patrollers, and bureaucrats)."
  • "Their contributions are attributed to their IP addresses themselves, rather than unique usernames."
  • "On forums, avatars are simply the picture or icon that users display on their profiles."
  • "A restriction imposed upon a sockpuppet or severely misbehaving user by an administrator that prevents them from editing the database."
  • "Users that are run by automated scripts and/or programs to carry out mundane and repetitive tasks."
  • "E.g., 'There's a bug in the editor: it writes things out backward.'"
  • "Most often applied to processor-memory access but also used for a local copy of data accessible over a network, etc."
  • "A brief appearance of a character, species, or item in a medium (a game, movie, comic, etc.) other than the one it originated in."
  • "An extension to HTML to allow styles (e.g., color, font, and size) to be specified for certain elements of a hypertext document."
  • "A programming error in a video game that results in unintended behavior, ranging from characters falling through solid objects or otherwise defying proper gameplay, to game freezes and the corruption or loss of saved data."
  • "In some platformer games, there is a certain number of lives that the player has."
  • "When the information from two or more articles is combined into a single page."
  • "An edit that doesn't really change the content of a page, but rather, fixes small details or mistakes, and other such maintenance work." (Remove commas.)
  • "This can happen when subjects are renamed over the course of the Mario series itself, or when a more appropriate and/or useful name is discovered, revealed, or suggested."
  • "In this wiki, the abbreviation denotes generally the North and South American versions of games for the NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, or Wii, but can also include South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. These versions come into play mainly for region locking, although minor gameplay and localization differences may exist between NTSC and its European/Australian counterpart, PAL, versions."
  • "In this wiki, the abbreviation denotes generally the European and Australian version of games for the NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, or Wii."
  • "Used before a username/a group of users (i.e., "Per X", or "Per all") to indicate that the person agrees with that/those user(s). Used in voting for Featured Articles, Proposals, etc. Etymologically, "per" is Latin for "through", so literally, the voter is expressing their opinion through the other user(s)." (Remove comma after "Per X"; un-italicize "per" after "Etymologically.")
  • "A wiki link where the displayed text is different from the article it leads to. Example: Mario shows up as Mario, but actually links to the Mario (franchise) page." (Remove comma.)
  • "This also includes altering the text (such as making the switch from active to passive, e.g., 'Mario stomped on the Goomba' to 'The Goomba was stomped by Mario.')."
  • "For example, in Luigi's Mansion 3, after the player goes through the door in the back of the Main Observation Room, the rest of The Last Resort becomes inaccessible and the player's only option is to climb to the Rooftop and face King Boo." (This fixes a dangling modifier.)
  • "In Super Smash Bros. games, the term refers to either reducing one's damage percentage or returning to the stage after being attacked or falling."
  • "Short for Role Playing Game." (Add quotation marks around "Role Playing Game.")
  • "A work of fiction (book, game, etc.) that continues the story or otherwise builds upon a previously released work."
  • "A user's name or a design that includes the name, which a user puts below or after their comments on talk pages to show that they were the one who wrote said comment."
  • "Spin-off or spinoff" (This is just another spelling, not a correction.)
  • "A game that has other gameplay types rather than the usual gameplay type it has (e.g., Mario Tennis, Mario Kart)."
  • "A file type that, unlike raster formats (PNG, JPEG, GIF), is comprised of vectors (shapes), rather than pixels."
  • "Short for Table of Contents." (Add quotation marks around "Table of Contents.")
  • "A box that users are free to create and use to describe their likes, dislikes, favorites, and other pieces of information about themselves." Dwhitney (talk) 16:29, June 10, 2021 (EDT)
Changed what I thought needed changing. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:35, June 10, 2021 (EDT),
In this phrase, is "actually" meant to be italicized? "A system of classification that separates official media products from unofficial media products and official but disowned works, therefore determining which characters, locations, events, etc. 'actually' exist in a series' fictional universe." Dwhitney (talk) 18:16, June 10, 2021 (EDT)
No, I don't think so. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:22, June 10, 2021 (EDT)

Here are more errors I found on MarioWiki:Good writing. What's in bold is how I believe the text should be corrected.

  • "However, there are a few issues that frequently come up with the writing."
  • In the "Bad writing" section, after "Summaries that aren't," "Pseudo-walkthroughs," "Padding," "Mario mania," "Everything but the kitchen sink," "Captain Obvious," "Flowery writing," "Epic writing," "Gridmark," "Reading between the lines," "Unsupported analysis," "Judgement calls," "Knitting everything together," "Fan worship," and "Fusing gameplay and story elements," change the hyphen to an en dash.
  • ""Peach is kidnapped by Bowser and Mario sets off to rescue her." is plot. "Mario traversed the grassy plains of World 1 and used Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and rare Invincibility Stars to defeat new foes and challenge the False Bowser waiting for him at the castle." is not plot. It's cruft." Dwhitney (talk) 16:30, June 20, 2021 (EDT)

Here are more errors I found on MarioWiki:Glossary. What's in bold is how I believe the text should be corrected.

  • "the smallest unit of storage - sufficient to hold one bit." (Change the hyphen to an en dash.)
  • Since "bot" uses a plural definition, I think the word should be "bots."
  • "Cover version (often shortened to cover)" (Put the second "cover" in quotation marks.)
  • "Not to be confused with remix." (Put "remix" in quotation marks.)
  • "It is equivalent to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), from which all other time zones are offset."
  • "Not to be confused with cover version." (Put "cover version" in quotation marks.)
  • "Short for Stupid Pointless and Annoying Message." (Unitalicize "Stupid Pointless and Annoying Message" and put it in quotation marks, simply because other shortened forms on MarioWiki:Glossary are in quotation marks.) Dwhitney (talk) 23:19, July 23, 2021 (EDT)
When do you think you'll fix these errors? Dwhitney (talk) 18:57, July 28, 2021 (EDT)
I've been very busy, will do so when I can. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:43, July 29, 2021 (EDT)

Sentence structure[edit]

This sentence has been like this on Aces High since near the page's creation: "The only way the player can get rid of the following Bullet Bill is to do an off-course and get rid of it." Do you think you can make the sentence sound better? I asked Mario jc this a few days ago, but he didn't reply. Do you have an answer to my question? Dwhitney (talk) 17:04, July 5, 2021 (EDT)

I think by "off-course", it means the player has to flying into the course's barrier, which will make them do an immediate U-Turn. The action would result in the Bullet Bill flying past them. I haven't played MP3 in a long time, but that's how I'm understanding it. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 00:37, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Mario jc did reply to my question, saying, "Maybe it can be changed to 'The only way the player can evade a Bullet Bill pursuing them is to veer away from its trajectory.' but this is based on footage I watched since I don't own the game." Now I'm wondering whether the sentence is referring to how a player can get rid of a Bullet Bill he or she launched or how a player can avoid it, the former sounding more likely. Dwhitney (talk) 01:11, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
Maybe I misinterpreted "following Bullet Bill" as meaning the first Bullet Bill that a player launches. Dwhitney (talk) 01:41, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
I think "following Bullet Bill" is referring the the Bullet Bill that is going after a player. I think this might work: "If being chased by a Bullet Bill, the player needs to head toward the arena's barrier, which will cause them to automatically turn around and make the Bullet Bill miss." Someone with MP3 should verify, however. If only there was some kind of retro digital service Nintendo could've put this game on... Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:36, July 6, 2021 (EDT)

What needs to be done.[edit]

I'm new here and I'm looking for something to do to help the wiki. GamerLover08 (talk) 09:41, July 22, 2021 (EDT)

Underwater[edit]

Hello! I'm planning to creating an article related to the underwater sections in Mario Kart courses. But I'm not sure that this article is required, as I'm afraid it might just get deleted. Can you give me some advice? Wario (Cowboy) from Mario Kart TourWildWario (talk) 06:05, August 31, 2021

I don't think we accept stuff like that. We don't cover specific track segments as separate articles. But we have anti-gravity, so maybe it's worth making a talk page question about it on the main talk page or something? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:48, August 31, 2021 (EDT)
If I can suggest something, water/swimming is a common mechanic throughout the Mario franchise that I think might be worth making an article for it, like lava and poison. Maybe a "Water" article can be created covering its appearances and effects in games, including the Mario Kart underwater sections. Thanks for your opinions. I'll try something like that out. Wario (Cowboy) from Mario Kart TourWildWario (talk) 22:17, August 31, 2021 (EDT)
Water is already something in Paper Mario, but yeah, a coverage like that would work. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:46, August 31, 2021 (EDT)

Theme from a Summer's Place reference in the music for Deep Bloober Sea[edit]

Hi again, I've come back to tell you that the music for Deep Bloober Sea in Mario Party 3 has a reference to Theme from a Summer's Place like Shy Guy Beach and Cheep-Cheep Island from Mario Kart Super Circuit which i've heard through comments on YouTube. Why would you ban me from your own discord?[edit]

Cap Block[edit]

I did a proposal for Cap Block, but the result is "no consensus." In this situation, am I still free to create a Cap Block article? Dwhitney (talk) 12:58, December 16, 2021 (EST)

No. It'd be as if the proposal failed, i.e. nothing is going to happen. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:05, December 16, 2021 (EST)

Punctuation in reference tags[edit]

Remember our talk about this? I want to let you know that according to MarioWiki:Citations, "it's preferred to insert the <ref></ref> tag after any punctuation such as a comma or period." Dwhitney (talk) 15:19, December 26, 2021 (EST)

Spotlight[edit]

I would like to ask, weren't all of the spotlight goals except for Super Rush completed last month? Wario (Cowboy) from Mario Kart TourWildWario (talk) 20:19, January 15, 2022 (EST)

It would look like they are. I guess they were finished after Yoshi876 posted an updated. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:48, January 18, 2022 (EST)

Ban[edit]

To explain in short before other users question the reason, Alex95 is banned due to a sitewide consensus on our Discord channel: he had been asking large sums of money from multiple community members, and while he likely not directly involved with the alleged fraud that may have happened, he was still heavily complicit in his situation and we are banning him for the general safety of the community. He has also admitted that he shared his account with a third party who may have involved with the alleged fraud. Due to that, his ranks have additionally been stripped. He is additionally banned on the forum and on our Discord. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 01:20, April 3, 2022 (EDT)

Would every NIWA wiki ban him as well?
