Pinna Park is a large amusement park island found in Super Mario Sunshine, the overall island being known as Pinna Island. It is located just off the coast of Isle Delfino's mainland, and forms the "tail fin" of the dolphin-shaped island, hence its name: "pinna" is the Italian word for "fin" or "flipper". Additionally, a yellow Toad near the cannon leading to the island claims the island is called "the pineapple": "pinna" being a pun on "piña", the Spanish word for pineapple.

Pinna Park (also known as Pinna Island) is a large amusement park island found in Super Mario Sunshine. It is located just off the coast of Isle Delfino's mainland, and forms the "tail fin" of the dolphin-shaped island, hence its name: "pinna" is the Italian term for "fin" (additionally, a yellow Toad near the cannon leading to the island claims the island is called "the pineapple": "pinna" being a pun on "piña", the Spanish word for pineapple).
This level is unlocked after a total of ten Shine Sprites have been collected, after which Mario can access Pinna Park by using a cannon found in the northwest corner of Delfino Plaza. A single boat sits in the water at the level access point, but it cannot be used by the player. Pinna Park can be seen from every location except for Noki Bay and the Delfino Airstrip. Additionally, Pinna Park is the only location from which Sirena Beach can be seen in the daytime. Looking toward Pinna Park from Pianta Village during one of the episodes that takes place at night, the player can see that it is lit up, revealing that the park remains open at night.

The overall island is known as Pinna Island. Pinna Park is managed by the director, and includes attractions such as a Yoshi-Go-Round, swinging pirate ships, a water-fueled Ferris wheel, and a roller coaster. Outside the park itself is a beach full of Stus, Sunflower Kids, various fruit, and dozens of Coins that are hidden under the sand and are revealed when sprayed with water. This beach is the only place where Mario can be actively controlled without his cap on, though he takes damage from the heat until the cap is recovered. Once Mario enters the park, he cannot go back to the beach without exiting and re-entering the level.
It and Gelato Beach are the only locations on Isle Delfino that are never covered in goop. It is also one of two locations that does not contain any nozzle boxes, the other being Sirena Beach. Pinna Park is one of the few locations that features music that is not a variation of Delfino Plaza's music. Instead, part of the beach theme uses a rearrangement of the secret levels that take place in the sky, making this the only main area in the game to use a cover of a secret level's music. Pinna Park is also unique in that it is the only location in the game where Yoshi is available in all 8 episodes after being unlocked. In addition, it is the only location that contains two Yoshi eggs, one in the park and one on the beach (although the one found in the park is only available during Episode 6).

Outside of Super Mario Sunshine, Pinna Park reappears in the background of the Delfino Plaza stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Pinna Island is split between two locations: a beach and a theme park. The beach runs along the eastern coast of the island, has several palm trees, a papaya-bearing Pianta-shaped tree also known as the Deku Tree, and is home to the Great Sunflower and the Sunflower Kids. The sand will also reveal several yellow coins, blue coins, and fruit if the player sprays along it. The number of coins in the sand will increase after Episode 4. During Episode 2, a Monty Mole firing Bullet Bills will be placed on the far side of the beach, and during Episode 4, several Snooza Koopas will be placed near the sunflowers. Also during both Episodes 2 and 4, the entrance to Pinna Park will be closed off.

Pinna Park is unique in that it is one of two locations on Isle Delfino that was never covered in Goop, the other being Gelato Beach. Pinna Park is also unique because it is the only location in the game where Yoshi is available in all 8 episodes after being unlocked. In addition, it is the only location that contains two Yoshi Eggs, one in the park and one on the beach (although the one found in the park is only available during Episode 6).
Upon entering the park itself, the entrance will be closed, preventing the player from going back to the beach. Pinna Park is made up of five rides, four of which must be used to obtain a Shine Sprite in a specific episode. Several of these rides make an appearance in the Isle Delfino welcome video during Super Mario Sunshines intro sequence.

Pinna Park is where Mario first meets Bowser Jr., Bowser's son, after defeating his Mecha-Bowser. During Mario's visit to Pinna Park, the park is overrun by three types of Electro-Koopas; he also fights a Monty Mole and several Snooze-A-Koopas.

Outside of Super Mario Sunshine, Pinna Park makes a cameo in the background of the Delfino Plaza stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

The Spinning Shells are on the right side of the park, and have different kinds of shells spinning around in circles. These have a very minor role in Mario's adventure: when Mario sprays the green clam shell with F.L.U.D.D., it will open up and reveal a Blue Coin, which Mario must collect 10 of these to buy Shine Sprites at the Boathouse. It seemed to gain a lot of popularity in Episode 7.

After Mario defeats Bowser and Bowser Jr. in Corona Mountain, the ending sequence for the game will begin. If players look very closely during the part of the ending sequence where Mario finds F.L.U.D.D. damaged after falling onto a small island near Delfino Plaza, they will see Pinna Park's Ferris Wheel in the background behind Mario. The color of the Ferris Wheel will now be red instead of indigo.

Mario enters this episode after having chased Shadow Mario through Delfino Plaza and after the villain escaped with Princess Peach via a motorboat. The introduction scene sets in with a shot of the staircase in front of the park and pans up until the park entrance, which can be seen with Shadow Mario behind it. The player can then enter the park and must pursue Shadow Mario until the two of them reach a pool of water. A cutscene sets in and shows a giant robotic replica of Bowser emerging from the water. The Park Manager will the show up, believing that the spectacle is a new show and that Mario and Shadow Mario are actors. To improve the show, he allows Mario to use Pinna Park's Roller Coaster to defeat the rampaging robot. Mario has to ride the attraction and use Water Rockets to attack Mecha-Bowser's head, while dodging Bullet Bills that keep emerging in front of and behind the wagon.

After three direct hits the robot shuts down and another cutscene takes place. Shadow Mario reveals his actual identity: Bowser Jr., disguised by a Magic Paintbrush and a dark blue bandana. He gives a short speech, revealing that his father told him Mario is a ruthless villain who kidnapped Peach, who Bowser Jr. believes to be his mother. After that they escape to Corona Mountain via hot-air balloon. Mario stays behind without being able to interfere, but is rewarded with a Shine Sprite.

**Hanging from the "nose" of the Pianta-shaped tree.
The second episode begins with a shot that zooms in on the red cannon at the beach which is now controlled by a Monty Mole. The park itself is not accessible during this episode, and the player can only roam the beach. While moving along the beach, the cannon permanently shoots Bullet Bills at Mario. The type of projectiles varies between black Bullet Bills which just fly in a straight arc, purple ones which home in on Mario, and golden ones which yield extra coins when sprayed with water. The explosives can destroy the various baskets scattered across the beach which sometimes contain blue coins. When the player approaches the cannon, the Monty Mole switches from shooting Bullet Bills to shooting Bob-ombs, which need to be stunned with water and thrown back at the Monty Mole. After three hits, the Monty Mole is defeated and a ray of light emerges from the cannon.

After entering the cannon, Mario finds himself in a secret level. F.L.U.D.D. has been taken from him by Shadow Mario, so the player has to rely solely on Mario's jumping skills to pass through the obstacle course. The course is composed of several orange or green blocks that slowly turn black before they vanish completely. The player has to guide Mario to the Shine Sprite at the other side of the level without falling into a Bottomless Pit. After the player clears this challenge, Mario can return here with F.L.U.D.D. and participate in a Red Coin challenge.

Episode 3: Red Coins of the Pirate Ships
Profiles
The third episode of Pinna Park begins with a pan shot over the entrance of the amusement park and shows its many attractions. The beach that was formerly disturbed by cannon noises now returned to its former peaceful state. When Mario enters the park, a short cutscene sets in, showing the huge swinging Pirate Ships attached to a metal bearing construction. The episode itself is a Red Coin challenge and the players have to collect a set of eight Red Coins to have Mario obtain another Shine Sprite. The Red Coins are scattered above the Pirate Ships and on green grids that spiral around the contraption. While moving on the ships the players have to pay attention to the swinging pattern of the vessels. Every third swing the ships will do a full rotation which will cause Mario to lose grip and fall into the water beneath the scenario. When climbing the green grid, Mario has to time his jumps properly and also watch out for the red Electro-Koopas. Once the eighth Red Coin is collected, a Shine Sprite will appear on a wooden platform high above the ride.

Episode 4: The Wilted Sunflowers
This episode once again takes place at the beach in front of the amusement park. The introduction scene of this episode begins with a pan shot over the beach. The sunflower fields from the previous episodes have vanished and the Sunflower Kids are in a withered state. Strange Yoshi Egg-resembling objects can be seen near the Sunflowers. The cutscene ends with a shot of the harmed Great Sunflower. Some people can be seen near the entrance, watching the scene from afar and mumbling about Yoshi Eggs. Upon investigating the events, the player finds out that the objects are creatures called Snooze-A-Koopas that gnaw on the roots of the sunflowers, causing the plants to wither as well as causing all of the Yoshis to leave Isle Delfino. Mario can spray water at them to make them wake up and attack him with a Ground Pound-resembling move. If Mario manages to lure them into the sandy beach, they will get stuck after the attack, giving Mario the chance to dispose of them with a Ground Pound himself. Defeating all five Snooze-A-Koopas will heal the Sunflower Kids and the Great Sunflower. For each one defeated, a patch of smaller sunflowers grows where Mario Ground Pounded it. After defeating all Snooze-A-Koopas, Mario will receive a Shine Sprite from the Great Sunflower.

The introduction scene of the fifth episode opens with the same pan shot as in Episode 3, showing the entrance of the park. The patches of sunflowers at the beach have been restored to their former state and the amusement park has re-opened. Upon entering, the players witness a shot of the Ferris Wheel which now spins in an alarming speed. The scene then cuts to what appears to be the cause of the trouble, a giant green Electro-Koopa that rests on top of the attraction. Many visitors in the park are shocked at the sight of the rapidly spinning Ferris Wheel (except for a Pianta boy who finds it even more thrilling like this). Mario has to travel behind the ride to find its water-operated mechanics. He has to climb up through grids, avoiding red Electro-Koopas, and has to make use of F.L.U.D.D. to make parts of the grid flip to his advantage. Alternately, Mario can use the pirate ship or nearby tree to access the green metal grating. If he travels to the top of the ramp, he can use the Hover Nozzle to get to the top of the Ferris Wheel much faster. Once he reaches the top, he can defeat the sleeping green Electro-Koopa from below, which will make a Shine Sprite appear at the top of the Ferris Wheel. The players have to jump on one of the Ferris wheel's cabins and ride it to the top, where the Shine Sprite can be collected.

Episode 6: The Yoshi-Go-Round's Secret
The introduction scene of the sixth episode opens with same pan shot from Episodes 3 and 5, showing the entrance to the park. When the player enters the park, another introduction scene plays, this time showing the Yoshi-Go-Round (focusing on the missing orange Yoshi next to the pink Noki). The player must go to the path that leads to the base of the Ferris Wheel. Behind the strange tree shaped as a Pianta head, there will be a Pianta staring at a Yoshi Egg. The player must then give the Yoshi Egg the fruit it wants. Fruit is found in various locations in the park. After hatching the egg, the player must go to the Yoshi-Go-Round and stand near where the missing Yoshi's location is (the Yoshi Mario is riding must be orange, though). The player will enter a secret stage, but not without F.L.U.D.D. being stolen by Shadow Mario again. In this secret stage, the player will first encounter blocks that are rotating at different speeds. The player must cross these blocks, being careful not to fall. Then the player must use different colored blocks (which are colored like Yoshi Eggs) to make their way on to a large orange block. Then they must jump on a moving orange block to get to a structure made of orange blocks. They must climb up to the Shine Sprite and collect it.

Episode 7: Shadow Mario in the Park
This is the Shadow Mario episode of Pinna Park. Completing this episode is essential to beating the game as completing it will unlock the entrance to Corona Mountain where Mario will face the final boss. The introduction scene once again shows the same pan shot over the amusement park as in Episodes 3, 5, and 6. After Mario enters the park, no further cutscene is seen and the game immediately continues with Shadow Mario running away from the player. Mario has to chase him through the park and spray him with water until he collapses. Upon doing so, the doppelgänger will release another Shine Sprite.

Episode 8: Roller Coaster Balloons
This episode opens with another pan shot over the amusement park's entrance. After Mario enters the park, a cutscene will show a close-up of various pink balloons shaped like Bowser Jr.'s head and end in a pan shot over the Roller Coaster which finally is open for rides again. The manager of the park remodeled the Roller Coaster and made it into a challenge course reminiscent of the first episode of Pinna Park. Mario has to ride the Roller Coaster and use Water Rockets to pop the pink balloons that were shown during the opening scene. There are twenty balloons in total, and Mario has to pop all of them in three laps or less in order to receive a Shine Sprite. If he fails to pop all balloons within three laps, he will lose a life. The re-opening of the Roller Coaster seemingly attracted many visitors, since they can all be seen standing near the Roller Coaster.

Ultimate.

The Roller Coaster, the Ferris Wheel, and the Pirate Ships as seen in the Super Mario Sunshine intro

Pinna Island is split between two locations: a beach and a theme park. The beach runs along the eastern coast of the island, has several palm trees, a papaya-bearing Pianta-shaped tree[1] also known as the Deku Tree[2], and is home to the Great Sunflower and the Sunflower Kids.

Upon entering the park itself, the entrance will be closed, preventing the player from going back to the beach. Pinna Park is made up of five rides, four of which must be used to obtain a Shine Sprite in a specific episode. Several of these rides make an appearance in the Isle Delfino welcome video during Super Mario Sunshine's intro sequence.

Clam Cups[edit]

Pinna Park
Mario and Nokis in the Clam Cups

The Clam Cups are on the right near the entrance, and have different kinds of shells spinning around in circles. They are based on real-life teacup amusement park rides. Spraying the clams will open them up, with the green one containing a blue coin. It seems to gain a lot of popularity in Episode 7. If the player goes to the Clam Cups, they can see a Noki playing a conch shell. The song it is playing is the first six notes of the Ground Theme from Super Mario Bros.

Ferris Wheel[edit]

Pinna Park
Overview of the Ferris Wheel seen in Episode 5

The Ferris Wheel is featured in Episode 5: The Runaway Ferris Wheel. This ride is in the back of the park. In Episode 5, the Ferris Wheel spins extremely fast, and Mario must climb up to the Ferris Wheel to make it go back to normal. Mario also has to ride on the Ferris Wheel to the top to get the Shine Sprite.

Pirate Ships[edit]

Pinna Park
The Pirate Ships as seen in Episode 3

The Pirate Ships are featured in Episode 3: Red Coins of the Pirate Ships. They are on the right side of the park, behind the Clam Cups. They start by swaying gently, then swing in a full circle every third full swing. In Episode 3, the Pirate Ships have red coins on them, and Mario has to collect all eight of them to find a Shine Sprite.

Roller Coaster[edit]

The Roller Coaster is featured in Episode 1: Mecha-Bowser Appears! and Episode 8: Roller Coaster Balloons. The track of the Roller Coaster goes all over the park, and has water rockets placed at regular intervals. Mario cannot get on the Roller Coaster cars normally, so he must speak to the operator to get on. In Episode 1, Mario must ride on the Roller Coaster while shooting water rockets at Mecha-Bowser and destroying the Bullet Bills. In Episode 8, Mario must ride on the Roller Coaster and shoot water rockets at the twenty Bowser Jr.-shaped balloons floating around the park.

Yoshi-Go-Round[edit]

Pinna Park
The Yoshi-Go-Round as seen in Episode 6

The Yoshi-Go-Round is featured in Episode 6: The Yoshi-Go-Round's Secret. The Yoshi-Go-Round is in the middle of the park, and has different colored Yoshis going around in circles. In Episode 6, Mario must feed Yoshi fruit that turns him orange and then ride him to the Yoshi-Go-Round, since the ride is missing the orange Yoshi. The Noki Director explains that the Orange Yoshi ride is missing because it broke and they didn't have the funds to fix it, so he had it removed.

Fruits[edit]

  • Papaya
    • Hanging from the "nose" of the Pianta-shaped tree.
  • Bananas
    • Along the ramp leading to the Ferris Wheel, on a small piece of land next to the Pirate Ships.
    • High above the beach area outside the park. (Episode 4 only; can be accessed otherwise through cheats)[3]
    • Hidden on the beach near the Yoshi egg. It is revealed by spraying the sand.
  • Pineapples
    • Next to the bridge connecting the Ferris Wheel to the Roller Coaster (on the Ferris Wheel side).
    • Hidden on the beach near the Yoshi egg. It is revealed by spraying the sand.
  • Coconuts
    • Below a palm tree next to the Pirate Ships.
    • Growing in the tree next to the Pirate Ships.
  • Durian
    • On the far side of the coin pool.

1-Up Mushrooms[edit]

  • Pinna Park:
    • On the beach, obtained by eating a group of green butterflies near the Great Sunflower with Yoshi.
    • In the park, inside of the upper Brick Block on the wall in the area behind the Ferris Wheel.
  • The Beach Cannon's Secret:
    • Inside of the middle crate within the group of three on the first gray platform with the series of orange blocks that bounce Mario to the upper section.
    • On the edge of an L-shaped block in the second series of red vanishing blocks in the upper section.
  • The Yoshi-Go-Round's Secret:
    • Obtained by fully ground pounding the frontmost nail of the first orange block platform, where the Red Switch Plate is located.
    • Under the right archway of the blue structure in the spotted block section. Riding a blue spotted block will eventually lead Mario into it.
    • Inside the Brick Block within the final structure of orange blocks where the Shine Sprite is located. An ice block is directly underneath it that must be sprayed with F.L.U.D.D. to melt, so Mario cannot obtain it on his first visit.

Notable mistakes[edit]

In Episode 3, when the player views Pinna Park from the beach, they can see the Ferris Wheel turning faster than usual. When the player enters Pinna Park, the Ferris Wheel is turning at normal speed. Episode 5's beach shows the Ferris wheel turning normally, but entering the park makes the Ferris wheel turn rapidly (as it should).[4] This implies that episodes 3 and 5 switched places during development. This was fixed in the PAL release, of which Super Mario 3D All-Stars is based off. During the game's ending when Mario picks up a damaged FLUDD, Pinna Park can be seen in the background with the Ferris wheel incorrectly colored red. This can also be seen in the credits scene where Peach and Mario are standing at Sirena Beach.
