Robo-Drilldigger is a giant robot boss in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. He is the only boss fought in Dreamy Dozing Sands, and the first giant Dreamy Luigi battle in the game. Robo-Drilldigger is a giant mechanical robot, made entirely out of drills and cogs.

History
History
Robo-Drilldigger was created when Mario and Luigi angered the Dream Stone Soul. After the Bros. angered him, he started pulling all kinds of drill-like objects found in Dream World towards him and transforms into Robo-Drilldigger. After this Luigi gets scared and tries hiding himself under his cap. This is when Luigi's cap starts glowing (in both the dream world and the real world). Prince Dreambert then asks Starlow to touch Luigi's face. If Starlow touches Luigi's cap and holds, Luiginoids start flying at Dreamy Luigi and he increases in size. After enough Luiginoids have merged with Dreamy Luigi, the screen tilts and the battle starts.
Robo-Drilldigger was formed out of many of the floating mechanical drills in Dreamy Dozing Sands by the Dream Stone's spirit, who was annoyed by Mario, Dreamy Luigi, Prince Dreambert, and the Luiginoids repeatedly bothering it as they tried to get it to say where Dream Stone was. After the Dream Stone's spirit created Robo-Drilldigger, it attacked and knocked over the stacked Luiginoids, leaving the remainder of the group in danger. While Robo-Drilldigger continued to threaten the others, Mario and Dreambert notice that Dreamy Luigi is glowing. Dreambert tells Starlow to touch the L on Luigi's cap, causing Dreamy Luigi to absorb many Luiginoids and grow into Giant Luigi. When enough Luiginoids are absorbed, the player must turn the 3DS into a sideways position and start battling Robo-Drilldigger.

After the Bros. defeat the Robo-Drilldigger, the Dream Stone's spirit is so impressed by the intense battle that it tells Dreamy Luigi where the Dream Stone is. They make a point of only talking to Dreamy Luigi.

Attacks
Attacks
Robo-Drilldigger first attacks by creating a tornado around him and sending out smaller tornadoes to Luigi which must be jumped over to avoid. After doing this, he sends the tornado he's in to the background. Robo-Drilldigger can then be knocked into the tornado with a Hammer Chop for extra damage.
As the first giant boss in the game, Prince Dreambert explains the mechanics of Giant Battles to Dreamy Luigi.

Robo-Drilldigger will then change its form into a mobile vehicle with its drills sticking up to prevent Luigi from performing the Jump attack on it, forcing Luigi to have to hammer it instead. In this form he attacks by trying to ram Luigi, which can be countered with the hammer. Robo-Drilldigger can also change into an aerial form that can't be hit with the hammer, but instead has to be jumped on. In this form he fires 6 drills at Luigi, after which he tries to swoop down and ram Luigi again, all of which can be countered with the hammer.
The battle starts with the jump tutorial. Afterward, Robo-Drilldigger attacks by spinning around to create a tornado, and sending out smaller tornadoes at Giant Luigi. These can be jumped over. Once complete, Robo-Drilldigger stops spinning and its tornado moves to the background. This prompts the tutorial for Hammer Chop, a move that can knock the machine into the background and therefore into the tornado. The player needs at least a "Great" from the Hammer Chop to send it into the background tornado, and doing so inflicts additional damage. The tornado dissipates when Robo-Drilldigger performs a different attack, so there is only one turn to take advantage of the background tornado.

After Luigi does enough damage to Robo-Drilldigger, he fires a giant energy ball at Luigi. The first time this attack is used it can't be countered (and begins a tutorial about the Rhythm Mushroom move), however, after the first time it can be countered by repeatedly swiping over the Touch Screen in the direction of the laser.
Robo-Drilldigger will then change its form into a mobile vehicle with its drills sticking up. Luigi cannot jump on Robo-Drilldigger in this state, forcing Luigi to hammer it instead or take damage. In this form Robo-Drilldigger. attacks by trying to ram Luigi, which can be countered with the hammer.

After he has taken even more damage, a short animation shows that he is damaged and he begins to hide in an even bigger tornado in which he isn't visible at all. He also can change forms with the player only catching mere glimpses of Robo-Drilldigger's head's current position, which if seen the last of, will allow Luigi to figure out what form he's in. When it is his turn to attack, he breaks the tornado and attacks in whichever form he is at that moment. After he attacks, he recreates the big tornado.
Robo-Drilldigger can also change into an aerial form that is too high to hit with the hammer, but can be jumped on. In this form it fires 6 drills at Luigi, then swoops down to ram Luigi. All of these are countered with the hammer.

After Luigi does enough damage to Robo-Drilldigger, it fires a giant energy ball at Luigi. The first time this attack is used, it cannot be countered. The damage prompts a tutorial about the Rhythm Mushroom move. After the first time, it can be countered by repeatedly tapping the Touch Screen to deflect the ball with Luigi's hammer back into Robo-Drilldigger. The unavoidable attack cannot KO Luigi. The Rhythm Mushroom tutorial does not use an attack turn and lets the player repeat it as many times as is desired. If the energy ball is not countered on repeat uses, it can KO Luigi.

Robo-Drilldigger X also appears in the Battle Ring, as the first opponent faced in the Giant Luigi arena. There are no major changes to his battle here. The main difference between Robo-Drilldigger and Robo-Drilldigger X is the version is red in colour instead of gold.
Once it is low on health, it switches back to the standing form but malfunctions and moves slowly. Finishing Bros. is used to defeat it, with the weak point being the chest.

In the Battle Ring, Robo-Drilldigger X must have all of his attacks countered perfectly, as well as be struck with the maximum potential damage possible with Luigi's attacks in order to be defeated within the strict 7 turn time limit.

Robo-Drilldigger, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Robo-Drilldigger is a giant robot boss in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. It is the main boss of Dreamy Dozing Sands, and the first giant battle in the game. Robo-Drilldigger is a giant mechanical robot, made entirely out of drills and cogs. It is primarily yellow, with green used in the body. Instead of hands, it has two red drills. Its name links it to the real world's Drilldigger, which has cogs reminiscent of Robo-Drilldigger.

History[edit]

Attacks[edit]

As the first giant boss in the game, Prince Dreambert explains the mechanics of Giant Battles to Dreamy Luigi.

After Robo-Drilldigger has taken even more damage, a short animation shows that the machine is breaking slightly.

Robo-Drilldigger gains the ability to hide in a tornado, such that it is not visible at all. It can also change forms rapidly while inside, while the player can only see the current position of Robo-Drilldigger's eyes as it flickers between one of three heights. The last visible height is the indicator of the form: lowest position means vehicle, middle position means standing, and highest position means flying. When it is Robo-Drilldigger's turn to attack, it breaks the tornado and attacks in its current form. After it attacks, Robo-Drilldigger always recreates the big tornado and repeats the process.

Once it is low on health, it switches back to the standing form but malfunctions and moves slowly. Finishing Bros. is used to defeat it, with the weak point being the chest.

Hard Mode differences[edit]

In the Hard Mode, Robo-Drilldigger sends two joined tornadoes instead of one at Luigi, making him have to jump at a much riskier time than before. It also fires several more drills than normal at Luigi, and possibly moves faster when trying to ram Luigi.
