Luigi Circuit is the introductory track of Mario Kart Wii, serving as the first race of the Mushroom Cup. It is a fairly simple course with no hazards and features a large boosted turn approaching the finish line, and is the shortest Wii course in the game, making it perfect for first-time players. This course can also be seen at sunset during the credits. It shares its music with Mario Circuit, and an arrangement of it is heard in the title theme, demo movie, options menu, Block Plaza, Award Ceremony, and second half of the credits music. The course's overall layout resembles the Grand Prix layout of the real-life Monza Circuit in Italy, though Luigi Circuit is shorter and does not feature chicanes. This is the last Luigi-themed new course in the series and the only one that has yet to reappear as a classic course in a future Mario Kart game.
Luigi Circuit is the starting track of the Mushroom Cup in Mario Kart Wii. The track is similar to its 64 and Double Dash!! counterparts in that it is a giant semi-oval shaped track. It features a long boosted turn which was featured in both previous console versions. It seems to be styled similar to New Super Mario Bros., sharing the same colored hills. There are several signs all along the track saying Luigi and Luigi Kart. If the player tries to leave the course or goes too far off track, they will hit a fence.  This track is considered the easiest in the game, because of its simplicity and lack of any hazards. Luigi Circuit also appears in the end credits after winning the Special Cup or the Lightning Cup. The second part of the credits theme is a remix of the theme for this track that is placed on sunset.

The track starts out in front of a massive stand of bleachers with Toads, Hammer Bros., Shy Guys, Birdos, Goombas, Monty Moles, and Miis cheering on racers with Luigi's Hat Emblem from the Mario Kart 64 Version of the track. On the right, a building can be seen that is also a garage. At the end of the first straight away a giant statue of Luigi can be seen with Miis standing in front of it. When playing as a Mii, Luigi's head is replaced with that of a Mii's.
The course starts with a brief straightaway where racers encounter the first set of Item Boxes. There is then a turn to the right, followed by a short straight segment and a gentle left turn followed by a U-turn to the right. This section resembles the first sector of the Monza Circuit without the Variante del Rettifilo chicane before the right turn. In the middle of the U-turn is the second item set. This is followed by a longer straight with another gentle left turn, resembling the Variante Ascari chicane in the Monza Circuit (as if the chicane had not been taken by F1 cars). There is then the last item set, followed by a large U-turn, with the outer half of the road having numerous consecutive dash panels and being slanted upwards, and then the last straight segment (this resembles Curva Parabolica, the final corner of the Monza Circuit). A secondary stretch of road is present along the edge of this U-turn to catch any racers that may fly off the main route. After the last straight segment, racers reach the finish line.

After the first turn, racers will see the return of the Cheep-Cheep balloon, a staple of the Mario Kart series long missing since the Nintendo 64 incarnation, on the right, then the road turns to the right two times. There is a long straight which on the left has a ramp surrounded by dirt that can be used to pull off a trick, but a Mushroom should be used to cross the dirt to get to it. Then the road turns very slightly to the left and there is the final turn, that is made in front of the massive set of bleachers with many boost panels in a row similar to Double Dash with a giant statue of Luigi's hat. The last part of the track is a short straight to the finish line, which starts the second lap of the race.
Visually, the race starts out in front of a large crowd stand full of Toads, Hammer Bros., Shy Guys, Birdos, Goombas, Monty Moles, Boos and Miis, with a Luigi Cap on top, similar to that seen in the Mario Kart 64 version of the course. Several garage buildings, more spectating Miis and a giant statue of Luigi appear on the right of the Finish Line. A Cheep Cheep-shaped balloon can be seen flying overhead which takes off from the landing platform in the middle of the lake. Hills similar to those seen in New Super Mario Bros. can be seen in the background. If a player is racing as a Mii or during the staff credits, the head of the Luigi statue and Luigi's face on some of the Luigi Circuit signs will be replaced with heads of random Miis from the player's system, or in the case of in the staff credits, the head on the Luigi statue is changed to the Mii the player selected for their license regardless of if the player's Mii was in the race or not.

Shortcuts
Shortcuts
The small ramp just before the last turn can be used to gain an extra item block but provides a negligible time gain. A Mushroom is required to access this ramp without losing time but is very difficult to do it shroomless. Players possessing a Mushroom, a Star or a Mega Mushroom can also skip the last turn by boosting through the dirt while being careful to avoid the warp pipes sticking out of the ground.
The first notable shortcut can be found to the left of the straight approaching the dash panel section, where there is a large amount of sand and a simple ramp placed near the track. A pair of Item Boxes can be found atop this ramp. Only one Mushroom is required to reach the ramp, but if the player has other speed boosting items they may drive to the left of the ramp to cut off more of the turn.

The second notable shortcut can be found immediately after, where the final U-turn can be cut off by driving through the sand. This time, there are some pipes in the sand that can thwart racers. If done correctly, only one Mushroom is required to cut off the entire turn.

Staff ghosts
Staff ghosts
There are two Staff Ghosts in Luigi's Circuit. One is available from the start and has a time of 1:29.670, using Luigi in the Sprinter. The second ghost is unlocked if the player gets a time of 1:26.394 or less; this ghost's time is 1:19.419, using Luigi on the Mach Bike.
The normal staff ghost for Luigi Circuit has a time of 1:29.670, using Luigi in the Sprinter. The expert staff ghost is unlocked if the player gets a time of 1:26.394 or less, with a time of 1:19.419 using Luigi on the Mach Bike. The expert staff ghost for this course is the only one in the game that uses a slower vehicle than their respective regular staff ghost.

Tournament 1
The first Luigi Circuit tournament was a karts only and Wii Wheel only GP race, with no items appearing at all. It took place as the second tournament of October 2008, and it was repeated as the second tournament of October 2010.
October 2008's second tournament required players to complete a GP race on Luigi Circuit. However, neither players nor the CPUs have access to any items, making it impossible to flip or spin out. Controls were restricted to Wii Wheel users only and vehicles were restricted to karts only. The tournament was later repeated as the second tournament of October 2010.

Tournament 2
Tournament 2
The second Luigi Circuit tournament took place during a sunset (as in the credits). It was a GP race, but with no restrictions. The Bomb Cars from Moonview Highway appeared on the track as well. This tournament was the first tournament of May 2009.
May 2009's first tournament required players to complete a GP race on the sunset version of Luigi Circuit that is otherwise seen in the credits. However, six Bob-omb Cars from Moonview Highway are now present on the track and all travel the course in reverse.

Tournament 3
Tournament 3
The third Luigi Circuit tournament was the same as the first. However, it uses bikes only instead of Karts. It took place as the first tournament of March 2010.

Course layout[edit]

An eagle's eye view of Luigi Circuit from Mario Kart Wii.
An overhead view of the course.

Shortcuts[edit]

Staff ghosts[edit]

The normal staff ghost for Luigi Circuit has a time of 1:29.670, using Luigi in the Sprinter. The expert staff ghost is unlocked if the player gets a time of 1:26.394 or less, with a time of 1:19.419 using Luigi on the Mach Bike. The expert staff ghost for this course is the only one in the game that uses a slower vehicle than their respective regular staff ghost.

Tournament 3

Three different tournaments took place on Luigi Circuit.

Tournament 1[edit]

October 2008's second tournament required players to complete a GP race on Luigi Circuit. However, neither players nor the CPUs have access to any items, making it impossible to flip or spin out. Controls were restricted to Wii Wheel users only and vehicles were restricted to karts only. The tournament was later repeated as the second tournament of October 2010.

Tournament 2[edit]
