Pi'illo Island (formerly known as Pi'illo Kingdom) is the main setting of the 3DS game Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. It is the home of an ancient pillow-like race known as the Pi'illos. Mario, Luigi, Peach, the Toads and Starlow are invited to go on vacation here by Dr. Snoozemore. As with Beanbean Kingdom, all of the areas are named after the theme of the area, except they are all puns on terms of sleep instead of types of laughter. The island's name itself is a homophone of "pillow".
History[edit]
In the past, an ancient species called Pi'illos used to live on this island. They had the power to travel in and out of the Dream World, and they were the guardians of the Dream and Dark Stones, two spiral-shaped rocks that were formed from dreams and could grant wishes. However, one day, the bat king, Antasma, stole the Dark Stone to fulfill his wishes. To prevent this, the Pi'illos battled him and managed to seal him in the Dream World, but before he was sealed Antasma shattered the stolen Dark Stone; the broken pieces became Nightmare Chunks and fell all over the island, petrified every single Pi'illo, turning their bodies into stone, and trapped their souls in these Chunks located in the Dream World.
In the time since, Pi'illo Island became a resort attraction, with Mushrise Fields and Wake Isle developed into Mushrise Park and Wakeport. Pi'illo Castle is being used as a hotel. The Dozing Sands are being developed, and people can go on tours up Mount Pajamaja. Artifacts from the Pi'illo Kingdom era are heavily revered, with construction stopping whenever one is found. Wakeport exemplifies this, as the town is built alongside the ruins. However, some areas have been left largely untouched: one such area being the Somnom Woods.
