Super Mario-kun Volume 16 is the sixteenth volume of the manga series. It continues the Super Mario 64 arc that started last volume. In one chapter, Mario takes a quick deviation from the story to part take in a kart race with Wario in a story based of Mario Kart 64, an anticipation of the next volume's secondary arc.

Autumn has arrived, yet Mario is still suffering from the hot temperature while visiting the deserted Shifting Sand Land with Red Bob-omb. Tricked by a mirage, Mario hits his head against a rock after mistaking it for a Power Star. Right after that, something swoops in and takes Mario's cap; the culprit is revealed to be a Klepto. While following it, Mario and Red Bob-omb encounter some Goombas.
