New Donk City Hall is the chief administrative building of New Donk City. It is named after the real-life New York City Hall, though its design more closely resembles the Empire State Building.
History[edit]
Super Mario Odyssey[edit]
New Donk City Hall makes its first appearance in Super Mario Odyssey. When Mario and Cappy first arrive at the Metro Kingdom, New Donk City is under attack by Bowser's minions. Mario makes his way to the roof of New Donk City Hall, where he finds Mechawiggler, who is stealing the city's electricity. After saving the city, Mayor Pauline tasks Mario with bringing four band members to the auditorium and restoring the city's power so the New Donk City Festival can happen. During the festival, Pauline and the band perform "Jump Up, Super Star!" on a platform in front of the city hall's rooftop.
A model of New Donk City Hall is found at the end of the Darker Side. The kingdom's Multi Moon is located on top of it.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]
A smaller version of New Donk City Hall appears in Uptown, Downtown, the New Donk City-based level in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The Toad Brigade can be found in the auditorium, where Hint Toad will give Captain Toad a Super Gem. There is another Super Gem on the roof and a Gold Mushroom hidden in an alcove.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
- Main article: New Donk City Hall (stage)
New Donk City Hall appears as a stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where the fighters are taken to different parts of the building by a moving platform.
Mario Golf: Super Rush[edit]
New Donk City Hall appears in Mario Golf: Super Rush as part of the New Donk City golf course.
Layout[edit]
Exterior[edit]
New Donk City Hall is a skyscraper that heavily resembles the Empire State Building. There are some hidden coins on the archway above the front entrance, and on the back of the building are two girders Mario can Wall Jump up to obtain three regional coins and reach the first balcony, where Mario can find three more regional coins and the entrance to the New Donk City Hall Interior. The balcony is connected to the building with the heliport on the right by girders. Below the girders is some metal grating between the two buildings with a circle of coins where Mario can find a Moon Pipe after activating the kingdom's Moon Rock.
Traveling through the interior takes Mario to the second balcony where the New Donk City Hall Rooftop Checkpoint Flag is. After completing the main story, there will be two acrophobic Shiverians here complaining about how high up it is. Mario can Wall Jump in front of the doorway to find three regional coins. Three more regional coins can be found on a small metallic ledge below the balcony on the right. During Mechawiggler's attack only, there is a spark pylon here which will take Mario straight to the roof, which will immediately start the boss battle.
After defeating Mechawiggler, spark pylons are set up which Mario can use to travel between the ground level, the first balcony, and the roof. On the roof is a motor scooter and a P Switch. Hitting the P Switch creates a checkered path that loops around the building. By collecting a key on the path and opening a Keyhole Pedestal, Mario can obtain a Power Moon. Mario can find another Power Moon by climbing up the pole on the roof.
Auditorium[edit]
The New Donk City Hall Auditorium is accessed through the building's front entrance. After Mario brings the band members here, they will play a rendition of the Super Mario Bros. Ground Theme. To start the festival, Mario must have gathered all four band members and restored power to the city. Mario can talk to a New Donker in the auditorium to replay the festival any time, and he can request the 8-bit version of "Jump Up, Super Star!" if he has fulfilled all of Jammin' Toad's music requests.
If the player has Mario stand still in the auditorium, he will start dancing. After completing the main story, residents of the other kingdoms will be there to see the band perform. There is a hidden 8-bit Cat Peach behind the stage on the right that yields a heart.
Interior[edit]
The New Donk City Hall Interior is accessed through the doorway on the first balcony. Mario travels through it on his way to the roof to stop Mechawiggler. To get through the interior, Mario must travel across Falling Platforms, lifts and poles. Mini Goombas and Urban Stingbies appear as enemies. Ten regional coins can be found throughout the interior. Near the top on the upper left, Mario can Wall Jump from one pole up to a higher pole, which leads to a treasure chest with a Power Moon in it. At the end is a doorway that leads to the second balcony. Near the exit is a set of three ? Blocks, one of which contains a Life-Up Heart.
If Mario returns to the interior after defeating Mechawiggler, no music will play inside.
