Neeks are enemies introduced in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.[1] These large, gray rats behave as the successor to Gnawtys from Donkey Kong Country. Similar rat enemies named Sneeks appear in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, and its E3 1996 promotional trailer even shows Neeks appearing in Doorstop Dash, Kreeping Klasps, and Squeals on Wheels, likely as a placeholder.[2]

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest / Donkey Kong Land 2[edit]

Neeks are enemies in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2, where their role is identical between both games. Neeks move back and forth only, and make a sound effect similar to a mouse's squeak when encountered by Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong. A Neek can be defeated either from being hit by a barrel or another object, being jumped on, or rolled into. Neeks appear in at least one level in every other world except for Krazy Kremland. Both games use a Game Over screen that shows a Neek at the bottom left, near Diddy's left leg.

Club Nintendo[edit]

In the Club Nintendo comic adaptation of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, several Neeks appear to menace Diddy and Dixie on the Gangplank Galleon. These Neeks are handily defeated by the Kongs, who simply jump on them. Later in the comic, a single Neek appears alongside various other monsters in K. Rool's Keep. In this comic, Neeks were portrayed as being capable of speaking, instead of simply making squeaking sounds.

Super Mario-kun[edit]

A Neek appears briefly in Volume 14 of Super Mario-kun. The last part of the book has a series of comics based on Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, including a 'find the differences' activity between several enemies, including Neek.

DK series[edit]

Neeks are enemies in DK: King of Swing and DK: Jungle Climber, behaving identically in both games. They move around on the Peg Boards, and if Donkey Kong touches a Neek, he loses a heart of his health. Donkey Kong can defeat a Neek by charging into it.
