Easy Racer is a game released in 1996 for the Satellaview add-on for the Super Famicom. It was made available to download during the "Game Tora no Ōana Special" program, consisting of games developed by students at the HAL College of Technology & Design using the Game Processor.[1] As the title suggests, it is a simple racing game featuring Mario and Luigi as playable characters. It is somewhat similar to Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race, but it has much less content as well as much smaller courses.

Gameplay

Easy Racer is a top-down single-player and multiplayer racing game in which players control Mario and Luigi in red and green open-wheel cars. Mario is controlled by Player 1, while Luigi is controlled by either the computer or Player 2 depending on the mode. The player is given two lives and has to complete ten laps around four courses by pressing A Button to accelerate, B Button to brake, and +Control Pad to steer. If the player loses to the opponent, they lose a life and the race restarts. At any moment during a race, the player can press a button to skip to the next one with no repercussions.

Racecourses

The game has four short racecourses with ten laps each. By pressing a button on the title screen, the player can see the developer's best lap times on each course.

  • COURCE1:[sic] A square-shaped course with a lake surrounded by trees in the center. The developer's best lap is 00:02:75.
  • COURCE2:[sic] Another square-shaped course surrounded by trees with an alternative path after the first turn across a lake. The developer's best lap is 00:02:18.
  • COURCE3:[sic] A course with a sharp first turn, two 90-degree turns, and a wide last turn, featuring red and white tires in the center. The developer's best lap is 00:02:51.
  • COURCE4:[sic] A course set in the middle of a sea with two holes acting as obstacles after the second turn and an island in the bottom left corner. The developer's best lap is 00:02:55.
