The [[player]] just has to get into the spot where the other bike is, and press the A button to shoot. In the first level, the road is straight and there are only two targets. The second level involves one turn near the beginning of the run; the third level is nothing but turns, and  involves three bikers that must be shot. If the player does not make the turn, they crash into oil tanks at the side of the road.

''After the destruction of his home town, Mach Rider jumped onto his machine-gun-equipped combat motorcycle and set off in search of a new home, destroying all the Quadrunners who got in his way. == Trivia ==
* At the top of the screen is a bar titled "ammo"; when the player shoots, it goes down; but the microgame ends before all the ammunition can be used up.
* It is possible to shoot the oil tanks.
* In ''Super Smash Bros. Melee'', the stage [[Big Blue]] has alternate background music, which is from ''Mach Rider''.
