M-Tokens are special collectible coins from the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. In most games they appear in, they represent objects of value that contribute to 100% completion. They are generally depicted as having an "M" symbol in the middle and a broad rim surrounding the letter on each face.

Due to the absence of a life system like in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, the purpose of an M-Token was changed. M-Tokens appear once in every stage, including boss stages, and are required to be present in every level created in the Construction Zone. M-Token reward the player with 2000 points to their score when grabbed, therefore making them vital to earn a trophy on that stage. Additionally, M-Tokens play an important role in unlocking new stages in the special world, Rainbow Summit. Each stage in this world requires a certain number of M-Tokens to be unlocked. Similarly to Mini Mario Cards, these items appear to be faded after the stage they were collected in is played again.

In Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, there are three M-Tokens in each level of the main modes, minus Giant Jungle. The M-Tokens appear identically but with different colors, one being red, one blue, and one green. Collecting each of the tokens in a level earns the player a star, which can unlock things such as minigames and Minis for the Toy Collection.

M-Tokens return in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars under their new name, M Coins. One of them is found in every level in the game and rewards the player 2000 points when collected, just like in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!. However, unlike in that game, M Coins do not have a particular function, being simple collectibles that only contribute to the score. Additionally, M Coins need to exist in every level created in Workshop mode.

M-Tokens are special collectible coins seen in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, first seen in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!. In most games they appear in, they contribute to 100% completion. They are generally depicted as having an "M" symbol in the middle and a broad rim surrounding the letter on each face.

History[edit]

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again![edit]

In Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, M-Tokens are white coins with a blue border encircled around it and a red "M" in the center. They only appear in certain stages, where they grant the player an extra life when collected. They otherwise do not offer any points to the player's score, making them entirely optional to collect. Players lose a M-Token if a mini touches spikes or an enemy, falls from a height of ten or more blocks, lose all Mini Marios in a Donkey Kong battle, if they restart or exit the stage before clearing it for the first time, or if the Time Limit reaches zero. Losing all M-Tokens results in a Game Over.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem![edit]

MToken.png

In Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, they appear as blue coins with a golden border around them, along with a gold M in the center of each face. Due to the absence of a life system like in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, the purpose of an M-Token was changed. M-Tokens appear once in every stage, including boss stages, and are required to be present in every level created in the Construction Zone. M-Tokens reward the player with 2000 points to their score when grabbed, therefore making them vital to earn a trophy on that stage.

Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move[edit]

In Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, there are three M-Tokens in each level of the main modes, minus Giant Jungle. The M-Tokens appear identically but with different colors, one being red, one blue, and one green. Collecting each of the tokens in a level earns the player a star, which can unlock things such as minigames and Minis for the Toy Collection. In Mini Target Smash a Golden M-Token sometimes appears. When it is hit, it gives the player 200, 400, or 600 points, depending on where it was hit.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars[edit]

M-Tokens return in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars under their new name, M Coins.[citation needed] One of them is found in every level in the game and rewards the player 2000 points when collected, just like in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!. However, unlike in that game, M Coins do not have a particular function, being simple collectibles that only contribute to the score. Additionally, M Coins need to exist in every level created in Workshop mode.
