Hammer Throw is a badge in Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. In Paper Mario, it is on a roof in Goomba Road, accessible if Mario knocks a spring out of a tree with his hammer. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it is found inside a ? Block halfway through Twilight Trail, can be bought at the Pianta Parlor for fifty pianta tokens with the Gold Card, and can be rarely dropped after a battle by Hammer Bros., Swoopers, Swoopulas, and Swampires. If Mario equips the badge, he gains access to the Hammer Throw move, a hammer attack that requires two FP to use. On use, Mario throws a hammer at the targeted opponent, dealing the same damage as a regular hammer attack. The exception to this is green Monty Moles, who take an extra 3 damage from a Hammer Throw attack.[1] In the Nintendo Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Hammer Throw now pierces defence and instead does 2 damage regardless of which hammer Mario is using, however the damage can be increased with badges. Unlike the regular Hammer attack, Hammer Throw is able to target any enemy on the stage regardless of their location and without going close to them, while most other hammer attacks can only attack the frontmost enemy on the ground while standing right next to them. Equipping multiple copies of the badge increases the cost of using it for every equipped badge, but also increases the strength of the move.

Merluvlee's prediction in Paper Mario

  • "I see...a Hammer Throw Badge. It lies in a treasure chest atop the gate you pass under when entering Toad Town from Goomba Village. You notice a jump pad hidden in the tree near the gate. You knock it down and leap on it."
