Template:LevelboxDKL2 Hornet Hole is the seventeenth level of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and the sixteenth level of Donkey Kong Land 2. It is also the first area of Krazy Kremland in both games.
Before they even enter the park, Diddy and Dixie Kong have to travel through a Zinger hive. Since many of the walls are coated with sticky honey, the Kongs are able to climb them. However, any areas on the floor that are covered with honey are too sticky for them to walk across (unless if they are mounted on one another, or riding an Animal Buddy). Donkey Kong Country 2
From the start, the heroes need to travel east down several high ledges. As they go, there are a few spots on the ground which are splattered with honey. It is too sticky to walk through, so they must jump through it. There are also Click-Clacks and a Zinger on the way over. Soon, they approach a wall of honey that they must hop on. It is sticky enough for the Kongs to hang on and climb to the next ledge. Another wall of honey is near this ledge that leads to the top of a structure with a Banana Coin on it. Continuing east, they should move on and jump over a few Zingers over some honey. Then, the group must climb another wall of honey nearby and pass a lone Zinger on the way up. They also travel towards the letter K on the way up. At the top, they must begin to travel west, where they go over more honey and jump over deadly Zingers and Spinies around it. At the end of the path, the heroes have to jump across a small abyss and land onto a third wall of honey. When the primates get to the top of this wall, they need to keep walking through the gooey honey all over the ground. There are some Spinies marching in a line on the way to dodge. After they are passed through, the Kongs should reach the Star Barrel nearby. An Animal Crate containing Squitter is located on a structure above this barrel.
At this point, the Kongs must continue forward and climb up yet another honey-splattered wall. When they get to the top of the ledge, they have to jump over a few Zingers through more sticky honey, and then grab onto a hook, in which another bee is flying around. Without being attacked by the foe, they should quickly hop to a ledge placed to the right and walk along the path going east. The heroes need to go through more honey here, and also avoid more Zingers, along with a Krook. Soon, they pass two Spinies and have to jump off a second hook. Again, there is a Zinger around it, so the animals must be cautious as they hop to the next ledge. From there, the primates can find what appears to be large stair cluttered with Spinies that they can jump down. They have to climb up another small wall with honey on it after they walk across the honey-splattered pathway. They should be on a ledge with a Krook here. After this, the primates need to get up one last honey wall found nearby and hop on the End of Level Target, which allows them to successfully leave the level.
Donkey Kong Land 2
From the start, the Kongs must travel east. As they go, there are enemies, such as Klampons and Zingers. Just like Diddy's Kong Quest, there is also honey splattered all over the ground, and it is too sticky to walk through. Once they jump out of this honey, they can climb up a wall, covered in more honey, which is gooey and sticky enough to hold them. At the top of the wall, they need to defeat a few Spinys and pass some Zingers, until they hit a ! Barrel, which can make them invincible for a short amount of time. The letter K is under this special barrel. Then, they can continue east and fight more Spinies, Klampons, and Zingers that get in their way as they travel across the area, until they get to another honey wall. Another honey wall follows shortly after a path with a Spiny, and they have to scale both to meets some Flitters that they can bounce on to cross a pair of wide gaps. A platform is between these two gaps that holds a Spiny. After the heroes cross the second abyss, they can make it to the Star Barrel.
Halfway through the level, they heroes can keep going west and hop along several hooks to progress and cross a gap. They can soon reach land again, where they have to avoid more enemies around a pile of sticky honey. A DK Barrel is also placed in this area. Two more hooks as placed against a high wall that can be used to reach a high ledge. Farther ahead, they can find a pile of honey with a Klampon and an No Animal Sign after it, which makes Squitter disappear if he had been obtained. Moving along, the group makes their way down some stair-like structures and past a few abysses right after to reach another honey-covered wall. Bananas line the wall on the way up. Hooks are near the very top of the wall that can be used to reach a slanted platform. It is followed by another hook that can help the primates cross a gap and reach an area with some honey piles and Spinies; a TNT Barrel and a DK Barrel also rest here. If the Kong drop off the edge of the raised section of land after the Spiny, they can find a lower area that leads past some honey piles and towards some enemies. A few hooks are after the pathway that can lead the heroes to a platform with a Klampon on it. Two small gaps are ahead of here that can also be crossed with hooks; the letter G floats in the second of these gaps. After the Kongs walk up a slanted pathway with a Spiny on it, they can reach one final gap with a Zinger it in. Using a few hooks, it can be crossed to access a small area with a spring on it; the level is complete when this is bounced on.
Secrets
Donkey Kong Country 2
K-O-N-G Letters
- K: The letter K is between the second pair of honey-covered walls that must be climbed.
- O: The Kongs can find two walls of honey after the Star Barrel. If they climb along the right side of the pair of walls, they can progress to the letter O.
- N: The letter N is above a Krook found immediately before the final DK Barrel.
- G: The letter G is one of the prizes given when landing on the End of Level Target at the end of the level.
Bonus Barrels
- At the start of the level, there is a hook above the Kongs. Using the Team Up move, they must toss a Kong up to it and grab on. After this, there is a wall of honey to climb. As they make their way up, they should see an open doorway into the Bonus Level. Here, they need to carry a treasure chest through the stage and throw it at all the Zingers they see. When the last villain is hit, the Kremkoin falls out of the chest to collect.
- In front of the entrance to the first Bonus Level, the heroes must simply drop down the ledge, where they can notice another entryway. It leads to the second Bonus Level, where the primates must climb up a long wall of honey. When they are at the top, they can grab the Kremkoin.
- Right after the heroes climb the wall near the second Krook in the level, the group must use Squitter to build webs up to a hidden ledge northeast of where they are standing. They can meet a Zinger here, who is guarding the entryway to the Bonus Level. The spider must simply defeat him with a web and then walk into the Bonus Stage. Here, the heroes need to climb up a wall of honey, or use Squitter's webs, to reach the Kremkoin, which is at the top of the area.
DK Coin
- Near the end of the level, the heroes should find a Zinger above a tiny gap. If they have gotten Squitter, they must use him to defeat the enemy and drop down into the small chamber. Here, they can find two Zingers blocking their path, whom they should beat with Squitter's webs and collect all the bananas past them. If the Kongs climb up from this point, they can notice the DK Coin.
Golden Feather (Game Boy Advance version only)
- To find this level's Golden Feather, the primates must stand at the end of the ledge that is right from the Star Barrel. From there, they must jump through the air and move towards a banana. When they touch it, a hidden hook appears. The Kongs must hop east to the following hooks. One of these hooks has the feather slightly under them.
Photograph (Game Boy Advance version only)
- To find the photograph in this level, the heroes have to go to the area where Squitter is found and break the spider from a crate. Right after the crate, the group needs to fall down from the platform they are on and look for a few Spinies. Once they find a Spiny with a photograph over its head, they should defeat it to earn another picture for their scrapbook.
Donkey Kong Land 2
K-O-N-G Letters
- K: The letter K is right under the first ! Barrel in the level, which is shortly after the first honey wall.
- O: Before the Kongs cross the last two gaps before the Star Barrel, they can find a honey-covered wall to their right. If they climb it, they can find the letter O, located right under an Animal Barrel containing Squitter.
- N: A gap is before the final TNT Barrel in the level. If they primates jump into it they can find the letter N on a hidden platform.
- G: The G is in the second-to-last gap in the level by a hook. A roll-jump is required to reach it.
Bonus Levels
- After the heroes climb the first honey-covered wall in the level, they should look to the left, where they can see a Zinger with a barrel next to it. It is too far to reach with a normal jump, so they need to break open the ! Barrel farther on. It gives them temporary invincibility. Then, the group must quickly come back before their short-lived ability wears off, bounce off the Zinger, and fall right into the barrel. It shoots them to a honey wall, which they should climb. At the top of the ledge is the Bonus Barrel, leading to the Bonus Level. Here, the Kongs need to climb up another wall of honey, then drop down into an abyss. After this, the can see the Kremkoin next to a Spiny.
DK Coin
- Right after the second No Animal Sign (the first being before the Bonus Barrel), they heroes must simply fall through the abyss to the left. As they drop down, they collect some bananas, until they reach the bottom, where they find the DK Coin instead.
