World ★, sometimes written as World Star, is the special world of Super Mario Run. It was added to the game in version 3.0.4. Although its exact terrain is unknown, it contains nine courses that consist of the jungle, Airship, Ghost House, desert, sky, and Tower themes. This world is available after completion of World 6. Its courses are not available if the player does not purchase the game, even for players who have linked a Nintendo Account to the game.
Where all other worlds are displayed on the single World Tour menu, World ★ is accessed by pressing a star button at the bottom of the menu. This causes a star to sweep across a wide row of the screen, which superimposes the World ★ menu over the World Tour menu. This menu has a red name banner and a orange background featuring a star. World ★'s menu has distinct background music from the World Tour menu, which is the background music of Superstar Road. While the World ★ menu is open, the World Tour menu is tinted blue and twinkling star visuals appear. The menu for each course of World ★ has a golden border and banner, rather than the normal white border and grey banner. When in the menu for a course in World ★, the player cannot navigate to courses outside of World ★. Equally, the menus for courses not in World ★ do not offer navigation to World ★ courses.
While prior Worlds in the game have courses that are unlocked in a linear order, World ★ courses are only unlocked after the player completes a mission tied to that course. Courses can be unlocked and played in any order.
World ★ courses contain ★Pink Coins, ★Purple Coins, and ★Black Coins instead of normal Color coins. These coins are identical to Color coins, except that the various ★ coins are tracked separately from the non-★ coins.
There is no bonus for completing every course in World ★.
