A Rainbow Bridge is a special building in Super Mario Run. It is exactly what it says on the tin: a small rainbow that is used as a bridge across short gaps. A Rainbow Bridge expands the kingdom, by connecting an occupied area to a adjacent unoccupied area. Five of these items can be purchased from the Shop, each as a different item rather than the same item being purchased five times. While they all cost zero coins, unlocking the ability to purchase them requires increasingly high numbers of Toads, often calling for Toads of specific colors. Rainbow Bridges are purchased in a linear order, as the later Rainbow Bridges only appear in the shop after their predecessor is purchased. Each bridge goes into a predetermined spot immediately after being purchased, and cannot be put away.

Once placed, a cutscene plays where three Toads run across into the new area. The player gains the ability to scroll over to the area the Rainbow Bridge leads to. The additional area means that the player has more spots available to place buildings and decorations in Kingdom Builder mode.
