The 'Shroom:Issue 213/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome into the December Fun Stuff office, where I've returned from my school quarter suffering! Finals are behind me, alongside my birthday, and now I get to turn my brain off for an entire two weeks. Truly, this is the spirit of the holiday season. In case you've been curious, I've been drinking a fair amount of eggnog recently - but it's never the same without Anton (talk) to share it with...
We've got another excellent selection of Fun Stuff sections for you all to enjoy this month, and I have presents still to wrap, so I'll keep myself brief. Please take care of yourselves, especially with a new year on the horizon. Who knows what 2025 will bring, but hopefully it'll be something spectacular.
Section of the Month
Congratulations to ViableBunnyBudd (talk) for a well-earned first place! Extra accolades go to Waluigi Time (talk) and Shoey (talk) for second and third respective! Make sure to vote for your favorite sections this month!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hey all, welcome to the final 'Shroom of the year! And, obviously, the final edition of Anagrams for 2024. I hope you all enjoy the festive season and have a happy new year! Anyway, in this month's edition of "I can't believe I haven't done this yet", we have vehicles! And not karts, but other vehicles from the Mario franchise- just to spice things up a bit!
So let's take off and set sail to solve these anagrams! If there's a theme that you can't believe I haven't done yet, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, and I'll make use of it- or any other Mario-related anagrams you can send me! OK, time to drive off into the sunset of the year and blast through these anagrams!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. FOSSIL VAN
2. SAUCY SIR RIDE
3. SOY DYES
4. PAN GANG PALE KNOLL
5. AMASS RESTS

8. AIR A CROW

Bonus anagram: The Sweet Stuff
Word Search
Hello and welcome to another Word Search! Originally this month's word search was going to be Lawman themed but then my laptop stopped working and I bought a new one. So because of that, I ended up pivoting to a new topic, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, a game that I bought but didn't play a lot of! But Strategy Wing Director Hooded Pitohui thought it was the best Zelda game he's ever played. Plus, it was great to see Zelda finally get a game of her own that's not stuck on the goddamn CD-I. Also it's got Deku Scrubs! You guys know how much I love Deku Scrubs! This month's words can be found horizontally, vertically, diagonally, backwards, and inside other words. As always have fun and stay safe!
Crossword
Written by: MarioMorty (talk)
Hey everyone, I'm MarioMorty and this is Crosswords. Unfortunately, I can't provide you with a new puzzle this month, but please enjoy this puzzle from the same time last year on wintery characters. Before I leave, a huge thanks for everyone who reads and especially those who voted for Crosswords to be the best Fun Stuff section for October. Knowing people like these things tells me what to do and how to improve in the future. That's all for me, I'll be back better than ever next month and again thank you all for your support! Sincerely, MarioMorty, signing off.
Hiding Koopa
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Hello there, 'Shroom readers! Earlier this year, I did a Hiding Koopa puzzle using artwork from the original Donkey Kong Country for its 30th anniversary. We're going to be revisiting that series one more time this year, because Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze also turns 10! That's only 4 years less than the gap between Donkey Kong Country 3 and Returns, so at this rate we're going to need some sort of "Donkey Kong Country Returns Returns" whenever Nintendo feels like making another one. But enough of that! Five Koopas hiding in Tropical Freeze artwork! Go find them!
Thanks for playing! Did you find them all?
Hint Art
Written by: ViableBunnyBudd (talk)
Hello 'Shroom readers, and Merry Christmas! Hopefully you enjoy your holiday and this stupid little hint art I made.
So here's how it works: I have picked a location somewhere in the game. This is NOT the location of an existing star in the game; it is a custom location! I then made some art that abstractly represents this location in some way. It is now up to you, the reader, to decipher what this art means and to grab this imaginary star at this location! It's just like the rules of the Hint Arts from Super Mario Odyssey, only it's done for other 3D Marios. Most of these will be ground-pound stars like in Odyssey, but if I'm feeling creative I might have these imaginary stars in the air or activated by punching a wall.
I had an idea that I thought was really funny and I just had to try it. Hopefully you find it funny too?
GAME: Super Mario 64
STAR TYPE: In a wall
Ah, just how I remember it.
Thanks for playing, unless you didn't!
Connections
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome back to another edition of Connections! I'm trying to ensure I put the right words in the right stockings... Want to help me sort through my gifts?
How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!
Snow | Count | Vanna | Frost |
Sherbet | Minh | Klaus | Sports |
Redcoat | Dinosaur | Fire | Khan |
Russ | Wind | Cookie | Ice |
Start with "Sherbet"
Found any fun guys yet?
I'm hosting a kostume party!
- Sherbet, Dinosaur, Cookie, Ice: ___ Land
- Vanna, Frost, Minh, Russ: ___ T. (Toad NPC's in Paper Mario)
- Count, Klaus, Redcoat, Khan: alter-ego's of King Koopa in Super Show
- Snow, Sports, Fire, Wind: ___ Crystal
How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“We've got another request from the DK Crew, gumshoe! As I'm sure you know, the Donkey Kong Country expansion of Super Mario World in Japan has opened for business and wonder recently, featuring rides and iconic locations from the Donkey Kong series, such as Donkey Kong's home, the Golden Temple, and Funky's Fly 'n' Buy. To celebrate the opening, a package of Power-Up Bands was sent to the Kongs so they could experience the new section of the park for themselves. But, by the time they'd packed their bags for the trip, the package was gone! Diddy managed to find a trail of Kremling footprints, so there's our lead, gumshoe. It may not be a caper committed by Carmen, but we are still going to help out. It's time to crack this case wide open and get those bands back, gumshoe, you're on the case!"

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Fort Cobalt from Paper Mario: Color Splash
"You've done good work this time, gumshoe! We sent out a team to Fort Cobalt and found our Kremling suspect sitting in the cafe with the citizen you questioned, seemingly waiting for something? Perhaps he ordered the special as well. Either way, we've apprehended him and retrieve the package of Power-Up Bands for Donkey Kong and the rest of the Kongs. Donkey Kong has sent an advance payment to you, along with a bunch of bananas for your trouble. You've had a good year, gumshoe, but it's time to return to headquarters and fill out your end-of-year paperwork!”
