Image Glich
On the Unused files page, there are two images at the top: one of a green Yoshi and one of a purple Yoshi. They are unnecessary, so I want to delete them. But for some reason, I can't edit it. I can only "create" it. Anybody know why? Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Foreign names in the opening paragraph
There's an inconsistency in the opening paragraphs of the articles I noticed: In not so many, but still in a notable number of articles, the Japanese name is mentioned in the lead. Actually, I'm perfectly with that, as the Japanese name is the original one in most cases and therefore deserves this treatment. What about adding the name used for the original (not generally Japanese) version to the articles? Like how it is done at Bulbapedia, e.g. "Midbus (Japanese: メタボス Metaboss)". On the other hand, Krow would actually not need his Japanese name in the lead, as he was created by Rare. Episodes of the Donkey Kong Country animated series would have the French name in the lead, as French is the show's original language. Any thoughts? At least there should be consistency on this. --Grandy02 21:51, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- I don't really like this style. It doesn't leave any room to explain the etymology. - 2257(Talk) 22:06, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- The English name's meaning is also often explained in the Trivia section rather than the lead. Or what do you mean? --Grandy02 10:13, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- The English name is explained in the Trivia section because there isn't a template for explaining it. We have a template to put names in languages other than English in and explain their meaning though, so I don't really see why we wouldn't use it. Even if the Japanese name is the original one, it's still a name in another language on an English-language Wiki, so I feel it makes sense to have it in the section for Names in Other Languages (which is how most articles currently handle it); given the section's heading, most people would probably look there first when looking for names in other languages, and it feels more organised that way to me.--vellidragon 14:52, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, I didn't mean that the original name should be removed from the template, sorry if my statements implied that. I thought it could work the same way as at Bulbapedia. Template:BP, for example - the original Japanese name is mentioned in the lead and then there's also Template:BP for all names with explanations (unlike this wiki, Bulbapedia also lists the English name in the template). I think the original name should be mentioned in the lead, since it is, well, the original one, and therefore deserves more attention than the other foreign names. --Grandy02 15:30, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Concerning Japanese and Chinese Characters
How come in some computers, I actually see the actual characters, while other computers, I see boxes with numbers on them? Is there some sort of extension missing in my certain computer? Please specify. I'm curious.
- Probably: my old computer can't display the characters either, and while it usually blames the Internet browser for being incompatible, all the programs have this shortcoming. In one of the manuals I read (the one for Photoshop, I think), it said that that foreign alphabets have to be separately uploaded. However, I doubt your computer works the same way my antique does (it's a Mac OS from the '90s), so your best bet would be to look it up online. Can't make Page!!
I'm trying to make a page by searching a name that I know doesn't exist but there is no 'Create this Page' link. Instead there's a blue link that takes me to World 1 (Super Mario Bros.). How do I fix this problem? SKmaric (talk)
- Okay, let's just say I'm trying to make a page called something like World 1-1 (Super Mario Bros.), but I can't make it. Instead I get redirected automatically to World 1 (Super Mario Bros.).SKmaric (talk)
- To answer your first question. A redirect page has been created to lead you into the article you just typed. That way, if you type that in a search engine, you would go to this page instead of "Page cannot be found". If you were lead to a page via redirect, click on the topmost link, where it says, "redirect from *insert Toon Link here*".
- For your second question, display title will only display the title on your page/tab/whatever. It's just a mere display. Typing in the link won't take you to that article, but instead, show up as a red link.
- How about I just edit the redirect page so it's an actual article, as well as a link to the page it originally redirected to.
Wait, are you trying to make World 1-1 a seperate page? If so, that is completely pointless and ultimately n00bish stupidity. o_0 This Is War 16:26, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

When you try to create a page for World 1 - 1, you are redirected to the Word 1 article because the 1 - 1 level is merged in that article. The redirect is there for a reason, don't edit it. Fawfulfury65

Boss Category Placement
I'm new to this wiki so I don't know if this has already been discussed, but I noticed something that I think should be changed. I'm going to give the example of Bouldergeist. Bouldergeist, I noticed, is in all three categories; Bosses, Enemies, and Characters. I personally think the wiki would be better if bosses like Bouldergeist stayed only in the Bosses category. Also, enemies would only include more "everyday", minor enemies, and Characters would pretty much only contain playable characters and other protagonists, etc. This would reduce the amount of links in each category, and things would not be repeated.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by MarioFan25 (talk).
- Actually, one of the things we want in categories, is to "categorize" them in as many categories as they fall in. I agree, things should not be repeated, but he is a Boss, an enemy and a character. --™ The 'Shroom 20:03, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
True, but couldn't you argue that with pretty much any boss? --MarioFan25 22:45, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yup. They're are enemies, aren't they? And they are a character, aren't they also? You can say the same thing with Mario and his friends. Anything that is not an object is a character. Anything that blocks the protagonist from reaching his/her goal is an enemy.
- That's not how "enemy" is defined in Category:Enemies, though. The description text of the category makes it rather clear that it's for "regular enemies" and that opponents only fought as bosses should be in Category:Bosses, so, keeping that description in mind, there's no reason for a boss that doesn't also appear as a regular enemy to be both in Bosses and Enemies.--vellidragon 19:44, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
- I (again) agree with Vellidragon. An enemy is defined (IMO and in the category's opinion) as a species of creature fought by Mario & co. more than once (Note: Rematches with a boss do not count). A Boss is defined as a character which appears once, most probably has text, most probably changes the music but, over all, appears only once per game and, if he appears again, it is obvious that it is the exact same guy. Finally a character is defined as someone with a proper name given to them, not just a generic member of a species. So I agree with Vellidragon and on another level, MarioFan25, we should seperate the articles into which categories they actually fall under. Marioguy1 (talk)
- I also agree with the above categorization. If we're going to do this though, we're going to need quite the overhaul since they're all like that at this point in time. Not saying it can't be done, but it'll take some effort. Phoenix Rider (talk) 20:14, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Ya know, the Smorg from Paper Mario: TTYD would just be a boss, seeing as it's just a giant, creepy cluster of individual smorgs which aren't really characters, more like a species of enemies. I say someone/something sentient/semi-sentient should be able to be categorized as "characters" - J-Yoshi64 (talk)
- Many characters are sentient (I assume by sentient you mean they communicate on an interactive level with another being) however we have no article on Koopa Troopa XYZ from Koopa Village because it is not notable enough. We include it in the generic article Koopa Troopa. However the article contains sentient and non-sentient Koopa Troopas in it so I don't think that is an accurate classification. Marioguy1 (talk)

"All right" is spelled wrong on the current poll. The word "alright" doesn't even exist. Can someone fix it, if possible?
- "Alright" is an alternate form of the term "all right" that should be avoided in formal writing, but can be used in informal speech or written dialogue. The options given in said poll were written in a quote-like, informal way. Therefore, the term "alright" might arguably qualify as controversial, but it is not "wrong" as you claim. Also, claiming that this term is nonexistent is really far-fetched. - Gabumon(talk) 13:27, 28 January 2011 (EST)

However, Gameinformer is quite weird for me giving that information too. The most interesting description they gave (but sure, speculative) is that it will have HD, a bit more powerful than XBOX360 and PS3 and won't be called exactly "Wii".
¢oincoll€ctor PD: other rumors state that the possible new console is codenamed "butterfly".
- What?! (this isn't aimed at you Coincollector, I'm just exasperated) Why in the world would Wii's successor be named "Butterfly?" Or does that have something to do with the whole Gamecube - "Dolphin" thing...?
PHOENIX (talk • edits) 01:10, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
- Don't need to be in that mood, Phoenix. That's a codename, like Gamecube's Dolphin, the Wii's Revolution or the Nintendo DS' Iris (the latter is based upon the name of a flower). Once the console has been fully completed its development, the official name is announced. And as I said early: All that I said is mere, simple and obvious rumor from other sources
Well, I apologize, but I was just trying to say that I wouldn't be comfortable playing something called "The Butterfly"... :)
PHOENIX (talk • edits) 16:51, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
- I've read that CVG, EDGE plus Gameinformer and IGN leaked more info, but again it may be speculation despite the truth they can have these sources. First it would have a control with a touch screen and second the project is not Butterfly. It would be called Cafe.
¢oincoll€ctor OK, I think I shouldn't tell more, better gonna fishin'...
- Well, I couldn't very well say no to that...after all, I'm a sucker for a good touch screen! :D

UPDATE: Project Cafe is legitimate and will be revealed at E3 2011. Unless anything Mario-related gets mentioned anytime soon, this is the last I say on the subject. Mario4Ever (talk) 21:44, 25 April 2011 (EDT)
I think that untill we get further info, the article to the Wii's successor should not be created. It will be like the early day of the SM3DS article when it was known as [N]SMB3DS.--Holyromanemperortatan 22:52, 25 April 2011 (EDT)
@Itsamemario:Where did you get the info. We have to wait for e3 @Coincollector:Isn't DS' codename Nitro? -- Superfiremario 09:15, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
About the poll...
Of all the things that can be celebrated, why this site's 6th anniversary and not Mario & DK's 30th?
- Still doesn't make the 1981 debut any less relevant. This also applies to Nintendo's gaming career altogether (G&W notwithstanding). BooDestroyer
- Um hate to break it to ya but Nintendo started making Video games in 1977 at least that's when there first console came out also the Game&Watch is a very important console and that was first made in 1980.
- Goomba's Shoe 15: Not to be rude, but look up the word notwithstanding. Mario4Ever (talk)
- Mario & DK...I have no idea what you're referring to, but I don't think it's a very notable occasion considering I had no idea it was happening; what day is it on? (
| )
- The original Donkey Kong arcade game was released in 1981. 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of its release (July), and as the first game featuring Mario (Jumpman) and Donkey Kong released by Nintendo, one can consider it to be the 30th anniversary of the characters as well, which is what BooDestroyer is referring to. I don't know if Nintendo has something planned for that month, though. Mario4Ever (talk)
It's...April...July is in three months...I don't think that we need to worry about celebrating the release of that game quite yet... ( | )
- I suppose BooDestroyer's getting a little ahead of things. Speaking of getting ahead of things, why not make plans to celebrate the 122nd anniversary of Nintendo's founding, which isn't until September? ;) @BooDestroyer The sixth anniversary of this site is much closer than the 30th anniversary of Donkey Kong. Mario4Ever (talk)
- Notrly actually, but preparations for the anniversary have been going on for about a month now so it seems fitting to do something about the anniversary. (
| )
- I stand corrected. Okay, at the present time, the sixth anniversary of the site is of more importance to users than the 30th anniversary of Donkey Kong. Mario4Ever (talk)

Nintendo Movie
I looked at Charles Martinet's page on wikipedia and in filmography it says Super Smash Bros. The Movie. It was a red link but it had 2011 next to it. Is this really true?YoshiGo99
Oh god i hope not Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
- @both: I can't find any information on a SSB movie, let alone Martinet's involvement. It most likely does not exist, and that information on the page is probably inaccurate. Mario4Ever (talk)
Vinnie Wikipedia is full of lies.
- Idk, Wikipedia also claims that there is going to be a Super Smash Bros. 4 (which, if that is true, I would be ULTRA FLIPPING INSANELY STOKED about), but sadly, a page does not exist for that article either, so one is left to wonder...
PHOENIX (talk • edits) 00:35, 23 April 2011 (EDT)
Dude, they should make a new Mario movie with GDC-whatever-it's-called animation. You know, like Shrek, Despicable Me, Rio, etc. But a SB movie? That will flat-out stink.--Holyromanemperortatan 22:54, 25 April 2011 (EDT)
Nintendo hasn't confirmed this and Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Fawfulfury65
Wikipedia is just full of lies. Full of them. Superfiremario 09:10, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
I have a wikipedia, and I know it isn't reliable. At school, I am not allowed to use it on projects and stuff. But this is a Mario Wikipedia, meaning it can also be unreliable as well due to vandals. Bowser Jr! Tom The Atum!
Userbox Images
Why are they being deleted? Bowser's luma
- Probably because the majority of the userboxes were deleted a few months ago, so the Userbox image template no longer applies to the images that were being used in the now deleted userboxes...

- What Phoenix said, it's maintenance we should've done a long time ago. And to SKMarioman, you can do that but they have to be linked to an article, they can't just be a"floater" iamge that doesn't have any tags or links to any articles. And back in the day we didn't really allow gifs in articles unless that was the only picture we had, things could've change, if someone could help out on this subject. XzelionETC
