Mario and Luigi using a Gonzola

The Gonzola is a zipline-like object found at Mount Pajamaja in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. It functions similarly to the Bike Pads from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. When Mario and Luigi walk into one, they automatically hang from the device's handles, one per brother, with Mario taking the top handle. To start going up the mountain, Mario has to twirl on his handle, cranking the Gonzola and making it move upward. The handles spin around, and to keep going the brother at the apex of the crank has to spin around. Button prompts appear to indicate the correct timing. By finding a rhythm, the Gonzola can climb smoothly. Without correct timing, it will slow down due to gravity, and eventually start spinning in reverse as it goes backward. Correct input will get it to move forward again. Going down the same control scheme, but the force of gravity means that the Gonzola always goes down, and does not need Mario to start. This can optionally be sped up by using the correct inputs. There are two Gonzolas in the game.
