Their first appearance.

Fly Guy is a sub-species of Shy Guy. They have propellers on their heads and have various jobs.

The first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and have been a hit ever since. In the game they carried Items like Red Coins, 1-Ups, or even bombs. In some levels one of them would swoop down carrying a ? cloud full of stars, and if Yoshi didn't get them in time the Fly Guy would float back up and laugh mockingly.

Fly guy make an appeareance in Yoshi's Story. They would come in a line of four.If Yoshi could defeat all four with one egg,he would be awarded with a melon. They appear in Stage3-3:Poochy and Nippy and Stage3-4:Frustation

In Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, Fly Guys appear in Shifting Sand Land. They fly around the course, spitting fireballs at Mario, trying to force the plumber into the lethal quicksand. They also appear in Tiny-Huge Island. This time, the Fly Guys spit fire at Mario near ledges, trying to kick him off the ledge. These are the only games where they have the ability to produce flames.

Not to be confused with Flying Shy Guys, Shy Guys with helicopter complexes on their backs, or the Sky Guy and Medi Guy. Mechanical Fly Guys have wind-up keys in the back. They are known as Mecha Fly Guys, and appear in the Mario Party series.

In the Mario sports series Fly Guy first appeared in Mario Power Tennis, as a secret character known for his technique. He reappeared in Mario sports titles in Mario Hoops 3-on-3 along other Mario characters (such as Bowser and Dixie Kong) and for the first time ever, Final Fantasy characters.

They also make a reappearance in Yoshi's Island DS doing the same thing as in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, except this time carrying Red Coins, 1-Ups, or Coins rather than bombs.
