Elvira's Movie Macabre is an American horror film television program hosted by Elvira that originally aired from 1981 to 1986, featuring B films from the horror and science fiction genres. It makes appearances in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! live-action segments "Mommies Curse" and "The Ghoul of my Dreams," where it is simply referred to as the Movie Macabre.

History

"Mommies Curse"

At the beginning of "Mommies Curse," Luigi is cooking Mama Mario's meatball and zucchini recipe, and asks Mario to read the instructions from her recipe book, though he refuses, saying that he is watching the Movie Macabre. Luigi explains that the recipe requires split-second timing, and tells him to read the instructions from the recipe book. Mario, distracted while watching the show, accidentally grabs The Book of Curses instead. Later, after the Curse of Celero turns Luigi into a mindless zombie, Elvira announces that she is live in Brooklyn, and is prepared to take any calls. Mario frantically calls her, saying that, if anyone can help his brother, she can.

"The Ghoul of my Dreams"

At the beginning of "The Ghoul of my Dreams," Mario is watching the Movie Macabre on the television in Mario Brothers Plumbing, as Elvira recaps the viewers of the previous film. She then introduces the viewers to The Mean Creature from the Scary Sewer, which opens with a woman running from the titular creature. At this point, Luigi walks up him and tells him to turn off the television, though he refuses, saying that he is watching the Movie Macabre, and wants to see if the woman escapes from the Creature from the Scary Sewer. Luigi then tells him to watch it quietly before going back to sleep.

Later, Mario mentions the show in his dream. During his dream, when the mummy climbs out of the manhole and begins walking towards him and Elvira, he tells her to cook some garlic, saying that it always works in the films she presents on her show, though she refuses, explaining that she is Mistress of the Dark, and that Mario only needs to show the mummy.

Later, after Mario's nightmare, he asks Luigi what he did to Elvira, as he attempted to strangle him in his dream, to which he responds that she on the TV, which shows hastily getting back on her couch on her show as though she left somewhere. She then tells Mario, "Good night, Mario. And unpleasant dreams!" before blowing a kiss.
