Coincentration is one of Wario's minigames in Super Mario 64 DS and a single-player and multiplayer Puzzle minigame in New Super Mario Bros. Its name is a portmanteau of "coin" and "concentration." Super Mario 64 DS also has a variation titled Intense Coincentration, where there are fewer coins.

The music that plays in this minigame is an arrangement of the Underground Theme from Super Mario Bros. "Coincentration" is also the title for an arrangement of the Underground Theme in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and its 3DS version.

Gameplay[edit]

The minigame opens with Wario on the top screen, punching a Moneybags next to him. 40 coins fall from above and hide into the Brick Blocks below as the Moneybags bounces offscreen. The player has to tap every block with coins using the stylus, though if they tap a block without any, the minigame ends. The highest possible score is 40.

The New Super Mario Bros. version is the same but has more detailed sprites. It also has a similar multiplayer variation, featuring a random turn order where players take turns choosing blocks. If one taps a block with nothing inside, that player loses two coins. Each player can pass a turn, but only once. After every coin is uncovered, whoever has the most of them wins. It is possible to have a negative score.

  • Super Mario 64 DS: "Pay attention to where the falling coins land. Touch the blocks to retrieve the coins. But if you choose the wrong block, your game will end."
  • New Super Mario Bros.
    • Single player: "Pay attention to where the falling coins land. Tap the blocks to retrieve the coins. Choose wisely: if you pick the wrong block, your game will end."
    • Multiplayer: "Pay attention to where the falling coins land. Touch the blocks to retrieve the coins. If you choose incorrectly, you'll lose two coins. If you're unsure, you can pass once, but use your pass wisely."
