Trophies (フィギュアFigyua, Figure) are collectible items throughout the Super Smash Bros. series. Each one is a three-dimensional model of a character or item, either of a Super Smash Bros. concept or a concept from one of the series in Super Smash Bros., on top of a shiny yellow base with a design of the Super Smash Bros. logo. As such, many are based on the Super Mario franchise. Trophies can be rotated to view them from most directions. Each trophy also has a description of the concept it depicts. They first appear in Super Smash Bros. Melee, replacing the doll concept of the first Super Smash Bros., and return in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.

The model for a trophy, if the concept is not used elsewhere in a specific Super Smash Bros. game, is often taken directly from a existing three-dimensional model from one of the games that concept appeared in.[1] Some trophies do have original models, such as for characters and concepts who have never had a three-dimensional model up to the release of the specific Super Smash Bros. game. Note that Super Smash Bros. Melee, as it was developed very soon from the release of the Nintendo GameCube and software for many other franchises was not complete, has mostly original models for its trophies.[1] Trophies of concepts from games known for being presented with two-dimensional visuals even when released in time periods where games use three-dimensional visuals that do not already have models in the specific Super Smash Bros. game instead depict the concept as a flat texture on a plane. One series this applies to is the WarioWare series series. Such trophies can still be rotated, and their backside usually has an alternate pose. While the Paper Mario series series uses three-dimensional models, most of the characters of that series are depicted on flat planes, and therefore this applies to most trophies depicting characters based on that series.

In the story campaign of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary, the characters of the World of Trophies are all trophies created and brought to life by Master Hand, and whenever a character is defeated in battle, they forcibly reverted to trophy form. Trophies of the fighters in the The Subspace Emissary are gray, shiny, full-size statues, not smaller trophies or statuettes like in the Gallery.

The games have various methods of collecting trophies. Common trophies can be collected by finding them in single-player campaigns, in a bonus stage of Classic mode, by getting them in the Lottery in Super Smash Bros. Melee, from Coin Launcher in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and by playing Trophy Rush and Target Blast as well as buying them in the Trophy Shop with coins in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. Some trophies can only be unlocked by completing certain event matches. Trophies of the fighters can be unlocked by completing Classic, Adventure, or All-Star mode. A collected trophy can be viewed in either the Trophy Gallery, where players can closely observe a trophy and view its description, or the Trophy Hoard, where every collected trophy is displayed together. The Photo Booth feature of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U allows players to take photos of their trophies.

Super Smash Bros. Melee has a total of 293 trophies, three of which go unused in Western releases. Super Smash Bros. Brawl has a total of 544 trophies. Including DLC, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has a total of 707 trophies, more than the previous installment,[2] while the Wii U version has a total of 743 trophies.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, the trophies in the Nintendo 3DS version are mostly from handheld games, while trophies in the Wii U version are mostly from home console games,[3] like the stages.

  1. ^ a b "Right. The development for Smash Bros. Melee began soon after the GameCube was released and we had to design each character from scratch. This time, however, we were able to borrow characters from various development teams, which was a big help. Take The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess from the Zelda series for example. We were able to design the Smash Bros. characters by adapting them just as they were modelled for the original titles." – 3. Trophies and Stickers. Nintendo (English). Retrieved January 5, 2025.

Brawl had tons of trophies, but rumor has it that the 3DS version alone may have more than Brawl. Looks like the Dr. Wily that we made from scratch for the 3DS version is on his knees in disbelief.. Pic of the day. There will be trophies in the 3DS and Wii U games, and each version will boast different types and models. The 3DS trophies will be mainly from handhelds and the Wii U version will feature trophies from the home-console games.
