Mega Cheep Chomp's Shell Shock is a boss minigame appearing in Mario Party 10. It takes place in Whimsical Waters and pits players against the Mega Cheep Chomp.

Introduction[edit]

The minigame takes place in a lake surrounded by rocky cliffs. Each player mans a small cannon with three Green Shells loaded on the side as the Mega Cheep Chomp swims in and out of view far below. Finally, the Mega Cheep Chomp bursts out of the water, snapping its jaws. The players jump as it lands back in the water, and it later faces a random player as the minigame begins.

Gameplay[edit]

Players have ten seconds to shoot the Mega Cheep Chomp with their Green Shells. However, each shot makes the boss turn clockwise to face the next player in its path; when time runs out, it charges forward and tackles its current target, making them lose two points. Since each player has only three shells per round, an element of strategy is required to prevent them from losing points; they must balance their scoring with ensuring that the Mega Cheep Chomp will not be facing them when it attacks.

At half health, the Mega Cheep Chomp begins each round with two or three Cheep Cheep helpers swimming around it; each Cheep Cheep can block shells fired at the boss once, thereby making timing another factor in player strategy.

The Mega Cheep Chomp needs 64 hits to be defeated.

The minigame ends once the Mega Cheep Chomp's HP drops to zero. The player who lands the final blow gains an additional five points. After the boss is defeated, the result screen is shown with a sum of points, penalties, and bonuses. The player with the most points overall wins the minigame.

Ending[edit]

After gaining the last hit, the Mega Cheep Chomp heads into the water in pain and comes out before it explodes.

Trivia[edit]

  • This is the only boss battle minigame in Mario Party 10 in which at least one player is bound to get hurt, because the Mega Cheep Chomp must attack a player every turn, making it impossible for all players to complete the minigame without losing points.
