Talk:Luigi's Mansion
Ta-da![edit]
Been working on these rooms for about a week, and I'm proud to report I am finished. I did get some help from Sir Grodus (Courtyard) and Snowblind (Billards Room and Balcony) though. Cheers to those guys! But like I said, every room is done. Monty Mole (talk) 17:01, 14 August 2006 (EDT)
Good.HK-47 (talk) 17:02, 14 August 2006 (EDT)
- Terrific! Now with PipeProjects, such a process as Luigi's Mansion will become much easier to handle. Wayoshi (talk) 17:28, 14 August 2006 (EDT)
Ghosts[edit]
To save space, this template has been removed. This project is almost complete and can be found at Template:Ghosts. 14:48, 23 July 2006 (EDT)
This template will have been immediately added to all existing pages following this 'update' post. Looks like none of the three of us have been on today, but if you're on for 30 minutes, consider creating a page for one of the ghosts above (and putting {{Ghosts}} to add the template!). For portrait ghosts, explain where they're located and how Luigi can capture them. For common ghosts, Son of Suns, your Bat article is a good example. Portraits are identified as characters, but not necessarily enemies (Neville and Lydia never try to hurt Luigi, but Chauncey does). Common ghosts are each a different species, and the only one of these that aren't enemies are the mice.
I hope everyone who has played LM, not just me, Son of Suns, and HK, will help create the ghost articles. :) Wayoshi 21:22, 20 July 2006 (EDT)
I keep finding requests for pics in the ghost articles. I've searched for pics, but there are none. I think people should do a bit of research to see if pics of characters exist before requesting them. -- Sir Grodus
Sir, you know not what you speak. I tagged those at about 10 oclock. People can always scan and edit pictures of ghost from manuals and guides. HK
Two Proposed Side Projects[edit]
Let's keep all recent talk up here, as this is getting long.
Two related projects I would like to take on but definitely would like to extend the offer to anyone else:
- I will probably take on is create articles for all the rooms in the mansion, in order of Luigi's adventure. That would probably include making *yet* another template, by area. Notably rooms (where it is, what ghosts are encountered, what key or treasure is obtained, what Boo hides in the room) are easier to create articles for than Portrait Ghosts (require in-depth how-to and what happened, bosses even longer).
- Boos. Create a list of the 50 Boos on the main article, including link to location to help out in the project above. Complete! -- Son of Suns
I'll be focusing on Common Ghosts and some Portrait Ghosts (nice, complete articles in a story form, Son of Suns) for now, so feel free to start either. Wayoshi 02:16, 23 July 2006 (EDT)
I love this game. Beat it a million times. I actually had the np guide a month before I got the game... lol I can't find said guide, but I would love to help. HK
- I think I'll help out too, if you want me to. I have the player's guide, instruction manual, the game, and a notebook full of notes about the game that I need to upload. Unfortunately, I have so many notes to upload about other games I haven't gotten around to Luigi's Mansion yet. I could switch my focus if needed. --Son of Suns 14:44, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
- I have the NP Guide at home (I'm on vacation), but I remember it pretty well...here's some things I thought about:
- Money. Gold coins, bills, gems, diamonds, pearls. Tell how much is each (don't know the blue, red, and green gems exactly). Probably explain how to get both gold diamonds.
- All 23 gallery ghosts. In fact, the NP Guide has the name of the common ghosts, that's something one of us can add later.
- Elemental Medals
- Controls is something I always like to include, like how to use the flashlight effectively w/ B and tugging.
How about I add controls, directly after storyline, and the two of you work on another aspect. Wayoshi 14:50, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
I'll find that guide soon. ( I hope.) And figure out what to do. HK
- I can work on portrait ghosts and common ghosts, maybe even the elemental medals. --Son of Suns 14:52, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Umm.... I'm gonna..... work on..... something..... else..... I can't find that guide. Its lost to the basement's maw! HK
This is so awesome. Mega collaborative work. And its an important article. I love this. HK
Ill work on the overview section at the top. HK
Sounds good, Son of Suns, since you are the only one that has the guide right now. Now I'm going to list all the money in the game, I'll use normal Wikipedia's article to help. Wayoshi 15:12, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
*Shudders at Wikipedia* I just thought of a side project for Bowser that is loosely tied to this. Very loosely.HK
I feel like I haven't done anything substantial on this project.HK
Overview[edit]
Wouldn't this mark the second time Luigi is the star. I mean I know what it says, but isn't important if its the second EXACTLY? HK
- Yes. Luigi was the star of Mario is Missing, where he had to save Mario for the first time. --Son of Suns 15:06, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Wasn't this game hinted at in Luigi's diary in paper mario? HK
Awaiting some feedback on the diary thing. Or would that be trivia? HK
- It would be trivia, but I can't confirm the info. --Son of Suns 15:38, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Wasn't it a launch title? HK
- Yes. --Son of Suns 15:33, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Controls[edit]
Don't forget the different modes of control! HK
- That's right, Sidestep! Thank you. Wayoshi 15:12, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Story[edit]
Didn't Mario just get there first? I don't remember Luigi having Mario go first to check it out. I could have a faulty memory, however. HK
- Luigi called Mario and said (paraphrase) "hey I won this mansion, let's go there". Mario and Toad simply arrived first (since Luigi and Mario were in two different locations). --Son of Suns 15:51, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Hey, I know you won't know, an I ask this to be humorous, but where was Luigi? Before he went to the mansion.HK
- Well, this is pure speculation but maybe he was at Mario's Pad, the cottage house, while Mario was at Peach's Castle. Mario did arrive with Toad afterall. --Son of Suns 16:00, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Was Toad the only mushroom person who went with Mario or were there more? -- Sir Grodus
- In fact, there were more. When Toad calls from the Telephone Room, he uses "we". Wayoshi 20:35, 24 July 2006 (EDT)
Portrait Ghosts[edit]
Is Glutton optional? I thought he was required. Isn't the upside-down girl the only ghost who is optional? HK
- Nope. You can walk right into the kitchen. Any gallery ghost that produces a silver diamond and two gold bars, or any other green treasure chest, are optional. That includes the muscle ghost...the billiards ghost...Jarvis and a couple of others. The Toy Soldiers are required because the toy house opens upon lighting the room. Wayoshi 15:24, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Alright. Cool. Just wonderin. HK
The Money[edit]
What about dollar bills? HK
- Listed as "Bill" in player's guide. Worth 20,000G. --Son of Suns 17:23, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Oh. Sorry missed it!HK
Should we make a template out of all the money when we create their separate articles? Wayoshi 17:25, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
Probably, but that definitley won't be my job. Sorry. I did change the gold bar page, though.HK
What about a new category? "Luigi's Mansion Money?" Wayoshi 17:27, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
That I can do!HK
Better idea!HK
Money Subcategory for items, subsubcategory for Lm moneyHK
Um... How do I make a subcategory? HK
- Make a normal category, then on the category page, put the larger category in the page. Ex: Make Luigi Mansion Money Category, then on that page, place a Money Category link. --Son of Suns 17:44, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
- I created the category "Mansion Treasures" and put it under Category: Coins. Coins is the closest to Money, and in the description it called Coins currency. Wayoshi 20:24, 19 July 2006 (EDT)
I was gonna do that.... I had to eat dinner! HK
Next Stage[edit]
Still left:
- There's a lot of new articles ahead, all enemies in the mansion (they are all ghosts, so they go into the Undead Category</nowiki>). I have made articles on most of the money (Mansion Treasures) except for pearls, which I'll do first thing when I return.
- Elemental Medals, Son of Suns is in charge.
- So you can get involved, HK, can you add the House Rankings, from A to H? 100,000,000G to 5,000G (I've always wanted to get Rank H, but ignoring all money is...hard for me).
- Trivia. Such as the highest money possible is 142,390,000, composed of...(I have the details from another guy's run somewhere...), etc.
We're well on our way to making a complete page, with tens of articles branching off of it. Cheers to the three of us! Wayoshi 01:09, 20 July 2006 (EDT)
I got rank H once. It was funny to go from mansion to tent. But yeah, I'll make a list from A-H, and how much money each is. HK
Gallery[edit]
What did you mean when you (Wayoshi) wrote Frames become nicer as Luigi catches more Boos? Son of Suns 00:55, 21 July 2006 (EDT)
- Hmm, I read that somewhere, that the frames have more detail. I'll remove since I'm not entirely sure. Wayoshi 00:59, 21 July 2006 (EDT)
Nonproject[edit]
How can King Boo say, "All the trouble you caused me in the past..." during his first apearance?HK
- Perhaps he is the Big Boo in Super Mario World. Wayoshi
- One: King Boo could be referring to all the trouble Mario and Luigi have caused for the Boos, which indirectly causes problems for King Boo. Two: Super Mario 64 DS appears to be a retcon of the original Super Mario 64 DS. As such, the Big Boo character was replaced by the King Boo character at certain points in the game, meaning that Mario and Luigi have caused troubles for King Boo in a retconned storyline. Three: King Boo cannot be Big Boo from Super Mario World. There is more than one Big Boo in the game and they can be easily defeated. -- Son of Suns
Leaving[edit]
Hey I gotta tell you guys something. In about a month I go to school, and I may be unable to come to the site. I don't know. If I can go to the site, it would be at strict times that I am unsure of.HK
Next Time[edit]
Next time we do a big project, should we do like wikipedia (ugh) and make a template to put on talk pages saying that its part of a project, and the main project page is here (link)? HK
lol @ PAL differences[edit]
I've got the PAL Version. Ouch.
- I'll try find out the ghosts' PAL HP. ~It's-a me, Smeedel. / Talk - Contribs - You 13:19, 5 August 2006 (EDT)
- Great idea, add the PAL HP to each ghost's article. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 13:28, 5 August 2006 (EDT)
I noticed...[edit]
I noticed a lot of the rooms are undone. Should I do them in the same format as the other rooms?Monty Mole 18:19, 7 August 2006 (EDT)
Yes.HK
- That's the final component of the project that I haven't gotten to yet. We'd love the help! Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 18:33, 7 August 2006 (EDT)
All right. I'll do what I can. =) Monty Mole 19:45, 7 August 2006 (EDT)
- I noticed that the Mario Items mostly collected in Area Three can be collected in any order. Therefore, I think I will list them as "first, second," etc. in the order they appear of the Game Boy Horror. Monty Mole 17:35, 8 August 2006 (EDT)
Progress[edit]
I'm making some progress with the rooms. I only have three more in Area Two to do. Would one of you mind looking over them and giving your dis/approval? Much appreciated. Monty Mole 21:31, 9 August 2006 (EDT)
They're fine. Keep it up.HK
Official Storyline[edit]
I got this from "Super Mario Bros. HQ," which got it from the US instruction booklet: "One day, Luigi received an unexpected message: You've won a huge mansion! Naturally, He got very excited and called his brother, Mario. "Mario? It's me, Luigi. I won myself a big mansion! Meet me there and we'll celebrate, what do you say?" Luigi tried to follow the map to his new mansion, but the night was dark, and he became hopelessly lost in an eerie forest along the way. Finally, he came upon a gloomy mansion on the edge of the woods. According to the map, this mansion seemed to be the one Luigi was looking for. As soon as Luigi set foot in the mansion, he started to feel nervious. Mario, who should have arrived first, was nowhere to be seen. Not only that, but there were ghosts in the mansion! Suddenly, a ghost lunged at Luigi! "Mario! Help meee!" That's when a strange old man with a vacuum cleaner on his back appeared out of nowhere! This strange fellow managed to rescue Luigi from the ghosts, then the two of them escaped... It just so happened that the old man, Professor Elvin Gadd, who lived near the house, was researching his favorite subject, ghosts. Luigi told Professor E. Gadd that his brother Mario was missing, so the Professor decided to give Luigi two inventions that would help him search for his brother. Luigi's not exactly known for his bravery. Can he get rid of all of the prank-loving ghosts and find Mario?"
Should we incorperate it or just use our rewrite currently on the article? Ours is more "encyclopedia-ish". Stumpers! 21:42, 3 December 2007 (EST)

Strageties for capturing ghosts quickly[edit]
I would like all that follows this to be added. 'As soon as you start sucking up the ghost, move the analog stick (control stick) AND the C-Stick in the Direction opposite of the ghost. Doing this repeatedly can help guaranteed getting a gold border on a picture of the ghost.' Learner 16:04, 8 March 2008 (EST)
- Very good point... I'm wondering how that isn't already in the article. You can put that in anywhere you like. I would recomend it being in the "Game Play" sectin. We have that, right? Stumpers! 18:31, 8 March 2008 (EST)
A To-Do List[edit]
This article needs work before it can truely be a featured article, in my opinion. Would anyone like to help me come up with a to-do list? Stumpers! 00:42, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

Artwork[edit]
Can we add an artwork section or do we not have enough artwork yet. --Nerdy Guy (I don't think we have enough)
- Yes, we can start one. If there are only a few artworks, we can add more. I would, but I don't have time right now! Sorry! Stumpers! 16:13, 19 November 2008 (EST)
Look out for Idiots!!![edit]
I found this article while Googling Luigi's Mansion artwork. Accoding to this, pirates have been repakeging Luigi's Mansion by putting it on DVD's, and inserting them into fake Wii version boxes. This means we have to look out for people who have been fooled into thinking this is real, because some n00bs might put these things into article. This is possible because some people were thinking that Super Mario World NES pirate was real. --Nerdy Guy (Just making sure you guys know these things)
Um, how did this article became FA when there is more than 2 improvement templates on it?

Portraits and New Mansion[edit]
Does anyone have pictures of the silver and bronze portraits for the portrait ghosts? I think it would be a great addition the the portrait ghost's pages.
Also does anyone have pictures of all the levels of Luigi's New Mansion?

3-D series[edit]
Is this game considered part of the 3-D series? GalacticPetey Will someone please awnser!
No because it's a spin off game. Fawfulfury65
Gallery Portraits[edit]
I think that someone should upload all three frames of the gallery ghosts. For example, Neville's bronze frame depicts his head with this facial expression: o:. However, his gold frame depicts him sitting on the chair reading a book. This will help get an idea of the difference in quality of the frames as mentioned. If someone can do it, then that'd be great!--FREAK ~Game Freak~ OUT!
- I agree. Now where will we get the images? Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Trivia[edit]
"This game is seen by many as a total, complete, in all senses of the phrase, rip-off of the movie Ghostbusters. HOWEVER, this is relatively far from true. In the movie, they use proton-emitting 'wands' attached to the back-attached Proton Packs (thus the link to the Poltergust), with the general affect being that of a laser stream emitter. Plus, to actually capture the ghosts, the team used 'traps' which did have a slightly vacuum-reminiscent effect upon activation, where they had to be below the specter in need of capturing. So, Luigi's Mansion replaces all of that with a vacuum cleaner. So, while the game does take elements from Ghostbusters, (for the better) it doesn't rip off the movie as much as people think. "
Some of this trivia seems opionated to me, and somewhat irrelevant. Could we get rid of this or at least shorten it? --LuigiBros64
Toad not a Generic Toad?[edit]
Well I'm not entirely sure but it seems likely that this toad who is the option of the save file may infact be the character Toad. He is referred to as simply "Toad" in the instruction manual and even in the quote .."I wish I could do something to help you... Talk to me for help anytime!" , he shows that he is the only toad there, signifying that he is important and the only Toad there. Also he is one of peach's servants so is he the major character Toad? User:Pichufan93
So many Ghosts[edit]
This has nothing to do with the wiki... the Mario universe had so many ghosts before Luigi's mansion couldn't they have been included? Boo, Boo Buddy, Big Boo, Terekuribo, Boo Guy, Lantern Ghost, Eerie, Stretch, Fishin' Boo, Boo Buddy Block, Greaper, Gusty, Caged Ghost, Blindfold Boo, Inviso plus other monsters that fit the bill: Mr. I, Dry Bones, Fishbone, Zombie Wario, Zombone, Bony Beetle, Bone Dragon, Straw Head... the possibilities they had to "mariofy" that game are there, why did it feel so foreign?
Sequel[edit]
Shouldn't it be mentioned that a sequel for the 3DS was mentioned by Hideki Konno in an interveiw with Nintendo power;
"Nintendo Power: You mentioned Luigi's Mansion earlier, so we have to ask: have you given any thought to a sequel for that game? it seems like it would be a great fit for the Nintendo 3DS.
Hideki Konno:When i did experiments with Luigi's mansion and the aforementioned 3D panel for the GameCube 10 years ago, i found that game was indeed a great match for 3D. so there is a chance that you can see a sequel for the Nintendo 3DS in the future."
They said the exact same thing for Pikmin 3, and it is coming out...VersionJay 19:09, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- A sequel for the game hasn't been announced yet, but Pikmin 3 was already announced. I think this shouldn't be in yet until we are 100% sure that a sequel is coming. After all, he said "there is a chance." Ray Trace(T|C)
Delete Chronological Storyline section[edit]
This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal. |
delete section 17-0
Seriously, this is pointless. The section is ridiculously long and poorly-written, reading like an especially useless FAQs that merely describes the room progression and the cutscenes. It's also rambling and full of information that isn't relevant to the game (most of the stuff about E Gadd's backstory) or the storyline. The plot summary below it is more than good enough to descrive the game's plot.

Support[edit]
- Glowsquid (talk) Per proposal
- Walkazo (talk) - Per Glowsquid. The mere fact that we have two storyline sections looks disorganized: we should go with the one that actually follows established wiki conventions (i.e. the one that's a plot summary, not a novelization).

@SW Flash Only if the reason for your support is the proposal itself. I think a proposal to remove reasons for one's votes would fail, since it appears that many users (myself included) find unsupported reasons invalid. Mario4Ever (talk)
Nana and Petunia[edit]
in the Portrait ghosts part of the page, Miss Petunia is listed before Nana but you get the hint on Petunia's weakness from Nana's diary which means that you defeat Nana first and Petunia second, right? Or can you defeat them vice versa? When Chauncey screams, so do I
- Hello, anyone there? When Chauncey screams, so do I. 02:21, 14 May 2011 (EDT)

Luigi Hang Glitch[edit]
Apparently, there's a glitch OR a possible Easter egg circulating the internet. See it here... I don't think it's worth mentioning in the actual article, but rather, on a glitch article related to Luigi's Mansion. There are a few other known glitches to Luigi's Mansion as well. Any thoughts on this? I thought I'd ask before messing anything up. ✄---Moshata---x 13:48, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
- All we could really say is that the shadow depicts Luigi off of the ground. It's not clear enough to consider it a depiction of Luigi's "hanging." Mario4Ever (talk) 14:24, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
- Yeah, saying it's him "hanging" is going too far, but the fact that the shadow is floating is a valid glitch, and making a "Luigi's Mansion/Glitches" sub-page for it and other glitches (such as the Trivia point about the lack of fire in the mirror reflections) would be fine. - Walkazo 19:03, 22 July 2011 (EDT)
- I'll add it to trivia (once I think about a way to word it), but I will not include the video link because there's no point in my mind. Thanks again! ✄---Moshata---x 11:57, 24 July 2011 (EDT)

Some things I think should be fixed[edit]
I think that the beta elements section should be changed. Last time I tried to change something on a wiki, the Ghostbusters wiki went completely insane for a while, so I really don't want to do it. First of all, I'm going to site the http://luigibmansion.proboards.com/ Luigi's Bigger Mansion forums for everything in this request. I would enjoy it if you would take a good read of a few beta findings threads on the forums. Anyway, one example I can give is that the page states that, quote from the preview below the link to the page, "There was also a diffirent game over screen, as it shows the mansion dissapearing and Luigi having a disturbing look on his face." However, this has been debunked multiple times on the forums as just comic relief at the end of the trailer, and was not in fact an unused game over screen. One glaring, ENORMOUS example is that we even mention the "Safari Ghost" at all. The page makes it seem like it was actually in the game at one point, when actually the Japanese version of the game was ALREADY OUT before Nintendo Power ever even released that magazine. There are many mistakes, so I recommend you give the forums a read and change some things. Go to Gaming, and at the top there will be a link to the Luigi's Mansion specific threads. ~2spooky
- the LM beta page is notoriously poorly sourced, written and organized. Trust me when I say nobody's going to object cleaning up that mess. --Glowsquid (talk) 23:58, 11 August 2014 (EDT)
- I think I'll go handle it myself personally. Luigi's Mansion is my favorite game of all time and it p*sses me off to see it so horribly taken care of. ~2spooky
- I personally believe it's because there are SO many rumors regarding Luigi's Mansion that people just believe, even if it was never true. Anyways, fixed up some grammatical errors, deleted a few completely untrue things, and added a part about the model elh. I want to add a reference to TCRF but I don't know how so I just asked on the faq page. ~2spooky
Luigi's Mansion Arcade[edit]
How come there's no information in this Wiki about Luigi's Mansion Arcade?? The only info I can find is from Nintendo Wiki (here). It's pretty bad to miss an entire game...--Kombatgod (talk) 18:36, 25 June 2015 (EDT)
Blackout[edit]
Does the Blackout merit its own article as an event? They actually call it "Blackout" in-game and the font when they do is colored. That to me is an indication that it should have an article. The article could include the different types of ghosts that appear in different rooms during it and how to turn the lights back on. Anyone with me? Ultimate Mr. L (Talk) 11:43, 18 September 2016 (EDT)
- Not really. It's a major occurrence in the game, sure, but the article will likely just have "The entire mansion goes dark and more ghosts appear." ...There really isn't enough to cover to give it its own article. 12:17, 18 September 2016 (EDT)

Luigi's Mansion Series Page[edit]
I am confused as to why the Luigi's Mansion games don't have a series page. There may be only 2 console games, but there's also an arcade game, not to mention that lesser known series like Mario Strikers and Mario Baseball have their own pages. Is there a specific reason why a page for this series hasn't been made? 16:43, 29 November 2017 (EDT)
- ....I was going to say that there's no reason for it to have a page because it's only two games, but I had no idea Mario Strikers had a page. I guess either Mario Strikers (series) needs to be deleted or Luigi's Mansion (series) needs to be created.

Rumor: possible release date[edit]
I'm not too sure if it matters at all, but there's currently a rumor saying Luigi's Mansion (3DS version) is being released on October 12, 2018 according to Best Buy. I just thought it might've been worth noting is all.

Name of 3DS Remake[edit]
Is "Luigi's Mansion 3" for Nintendo 3DS a development title until a new one is chosen? Syncro263892XL 19:49, 13 September 2018 (EDT)
Yes, that's what we use for now.Wait, no, the 3DS remake is the remake of the first game. Luigi's Mansion 3 is a brand new game altogether and completely different. Mario JC 19:52, 13 September 2018 (EDT)
Reference[edit]
I included a reference to Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon in the "References in later games," section for the 3DS version, but I think I put it in the wrong spot because I don't know which games were between Dark Moon.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prpro=03 (talk).
- I moved this to "References to other games," since it's Dark Moon that is being referenced.

Separate Page[edit]
Considering how many changes there really are in this game, should we make a separate page for the 3DS version?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prpro=03 (talk).
- Nah, we don't need a separate page just for a list of changes. Overall, it's the same game, just with some added features. 18:25, 12 October 2018 (EDT)
- Honestly, I don't think a split is necessary, either. I've made it up to Area 4; the story's been the same so far on the 3DS Arnold232 (talk) 03:01, 15 October 2018 (EDT)
- I personally think we should follow roughly what ZeldaWiki did with their OoT3D and MM3D pages, as there's still more than simply aesthetic differences, and I really want to avoid the writing of "so-and-so will then happen, but only in the remade version" that plagues many DKC/2/3 pages, as it's annoying and really kinda inexcusable. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 05:13, 15 October 2018 (EDT)

- The 3DS port isn't different enough to warrant a new article. I personally believe that direct ports like this should stay merged, while enhanced ports (like SMBDX) and full remakes (SM64DS) should be split. - I think new title made it automatic? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:14, 16 October 2018 (EDT)
- I do not feel there are enough differences for a split to be necessary, but I do feel this proposal is relevant while discussing how necessary certain port articles are. --TheFlameChomp (talk) 08:12, 16 October 2018 (EDT)

- I'm against the split--the Nintendo 3DS remake can simply have its own section. Results May Vary (talk) 13:48, 31 October 2018 (EDT)
In past times I would've said 3DS Luigi's Mansion is not changed up enough to warrant a separate article, but then again, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 isn't really much more of a chance compared to its target game either, but it still gets a separate article because it has a different name, and that's an hugely arbitrary standard no matter how you mental gymnastic-it.
I realize what I'm about to describe is a bit nutty, but personally I'm willing to take the above-linked proposal a (lot of) steps further and just have subpage for every port of a given game, wheter it's something notably changed up Super Mario Advance or something like the Atari 7800 version of Mario Bros (but probably not Virtual Console releases since those are just emulated). Reserve the "main" page to talk about the basics of the gameplay and devote the versions subpages to deep dives about the deliberate changes, graphical choices, glitches exclusive to that version, development history specific to that version (if available), et cetera. We're a fan wiki: there's no excuse not to go all-in. --Glowsquid (talk) 12:06, 16 October 2018 (EDT)

Maximum amount of Small Pearls in the 3ds version[edit]
The page says 76 but I have 125 small pearls. I'm guessing it was changed? Luigi86101 (talk) 17:16, 16 October 2018 (EDT)
- The maximum amount is if you get every Large Pearl and Medium Pearl as well - basically, perfect scores on every portrait ghost. You can get more small pearls at the cost of fewer bigger ones, this doesn't qualify as a change. Superchao (talk) 11:28, 25 October 2018 (EDT)
Split Luigi's Mansion 3DS into its own article[edit]
This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal. |
split 19-3
As you may know, Luigi's Mansion has recently got a 3DS remake that adds many new features such as an S rank, an expanded gallery, updated graphics, platinum frames, a new boss rush mode, co-op, new cutscenes, the strobulb, etc. This is why I propose that it should be spit into its own separate article. The Nintendo 3DS version section in this article is starting to run on due to the major changes in this version, and in my opinion giving the 3DS remake its own article would better sort out this information. Not only that, but other remakes/ports with much less new features such as New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World get there own article so in my opinion Luigi's Mansion 3DS should also have an article to itself.

Support[edit]
- Doomhiker (talk) Per proposal.
- Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) We don't want any information getting conflated, and this is getting somewhat confusing. Per proposal.
- Waluigi Time (talk) Per all.
- FanOfYoshi (talk) Per all.
- Ultimate Mr. L (talk) This should seriously be extended to other ports and remakes. Per proposal and the discussion above.
- Baby Luigi (talk) Per all.
- LinkTheLefty (talk) If the Tropical Freeze and Treasure Tracker ports are getting split, I see no reason the Luigi's Mansion version should remain merged.
- Toadette the Achiever (talk) The differences, while they're not quite as big as in, say, Super Mario 64 DS, are still enough to warrant a separate article. Per all.
- GrainedCargo192 (talk) Per all.
- Yoshi the SSM (talk) Per all.
- TheFlameChomp (talk) While I said that I disagreed with splitting the articles above, it would be inconsistent with the examples mentioned, and the previous proposal. Since Treasure Tracker also has the same name, I don’t think that makes sense to be a reason to keep them merged.
- MarioManiac1981 (talk) It would be sensible to split up the article. If New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe warrants a separate article, then as does the 3DS version of Luigi's Mansion. Per all.
- Mario jc (talk) The only reason they're together is because they share the same name. If this were called "Luigi's Mansion 3D" (a la Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask 3D, also by Grezzo), I guarantee it would've received a separate page from the start. While they're similar by name, I think they're different enough by nature to warrant separate articles.
- Bazooka Mario (talk) I don't see the problem in giving this one its own page. Would be much easier to illustrate differences between the games. We do generally cover remakes as their own pages.
- bwburke94 (talk) The differences are enough to split it into a new article.
- George Jones (talk) It has enough differences to warrent an article for its own.
- Uncle Steve (talk) I think we could make it a separate article just because the existing section is ginormous and a pain to read/edit.
- Scrooge200 (talk) Per all.
- BBQ Turtle (talk) Per all, there are a lot of changes.
Oppose[edit]
- WeirdDave13 (talk) I don't feel there is enough new content to warrant a new page. I say we keep it the same.
- Alex95 (talk) - Per Dave, and I don't think NSMBUDeluxe and P&YWW should be separate, either.
- Fawful (talk) Not only are there barely any changes, but the fact that there is no name change would get really confusing.
Comments[edit]
Uh guys, there's already a proposal that dealt with this. I've also outlined my arguments in this in favor of splitting Luigi's Mansion for 3DS. Ray Trace(T|C) 13:42, 5 November 2018 (EST)
- This is, there wasn't much consensus above as to whether or not the changes in this case were "substantial" enough. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:18, 5 November 2018 (EST)
- As I understand it, the 3DS version of Luigi's Mansion wasn't released yet at the time of that proposal, so it's not directly covered. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:38, 5 November 2018 (EST)
- So as if i understand 3DS ports get split if they have a different name, and the changes are drastic enough? -- FanOfYoshi 00:41, 6 November 2018 (EST)
- Yeah, more or less. (T|C) 10:20, 6 November 2018 (EST)
- It's more or than and. As far as I know, ports with changed names get their own page by default. That proposal only deals with ports that have the same name as the original game, but have substantial changes for a split. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 17:07, 6 November 2018 (EST)
@Fawful "...barely any changes"?
(--) 15:14, 6 November 2018 (EST)
- That's actually more changes than exist between SMW2 and SMA3, for reference. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:40, 6 November 2018 (EST)
Luigi's Mansion website content coverage[edit]
In the official website of the first game there was a flash game where one could go visit E. Gadd's lab. The lab served as the main location where you would pick different rooms, objects and machines to enter a new section.
https://web.archive.org/web/20011130141838/http://luigis-mansion.com:80/
The sections of the lab include:
- The Bookcase (Which contains information regarding Luigi's story as a character, the history of the game and other interesting things)
- Ask Madame Clairvoya (The Fortune-Teller Room where one could ask Madame Clairvoya anything and she would answer your question)
- The Poltercue (A pool game using the Poltergust 3000)
- Spooky Movies (Place to watch two clips from the game using QuickTime)
- Screamshot Gallery (A galler of photos from the game)
- The Drafting Table (A room containing some images of ghosts found by E. Gadd, funny stuff)
Here's an archived version that you can play right now. https://skelux.net/flash/luigismansion/
However, it's missing the room to the fortune-teller room. It was far on the right and it was a green door as the one in the photo below. There is also a shadow that appears out of nowhere. It's actually an orange ghost but it's also missing the sprite. It seems the sprite of the door to the room is missing, but the code to the fortune-teller room exists inside the lab file. I used SWF Decompiler to prove it.
A lot of these especially the fortune-teller room and the bookcase have interesting stuff that should be added to the respective articles on this wiki, such as The Lab, Madame Clairvoya and possibly even the Luigi's Mansion main article. Let's not forget the voice lines in the Madame file make it stand out from the rest. They can easily be added to the character's list of quotes on her article.
I've made a video after I extracted the audios from the swf file of her room with all her responses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpPJ2G3Pgqg
My only request is for all of this content to be saved and added to the wiki and into the specified articles I mentioned above, so anyone can know what the site used to be. Alfonso720 (talk) 00:22, December 16, 2020 (EST)
- Yeah, images can definitely be added to the relevant articles. We also cover official browser games, so maybe a "Luigi's Mansion (browser)" or something could also be created. 00:31, December 16, 2020 (EST)
- Thanks. I'll probably work on adding information tomorrow though. I'll also do a few changes to the Madame article to fit the information from the website. I also noticed the Poltercue article exists here, something I totally missed. It would be great if the Luigi's Mansion (website) article is created, we must include the main section of the lab and the others you can pick there. I don't know what screenshot we can use for the lab though since the one in the link above is missing some details like the door. I will probably need help on creating though, once again tomorrow. Alfonso720 (talk) 00:50, December 16, 2020 (EST)
- I think the website of Wario Land 4 was basically a game in itself too, with lots of things that separated it from the game it promoted. Content like this should definitely be covered in some form. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 07:48, December 16, 2020 (EST)
- Alright, now that I added some information to Madame Clairvoya's article, I think we could also think in the creation of Luigi's Mansion website article. My only concern with it, is what kind of main image we can use for that article since a screenshot of the lab in that link above wouldn't look good since it's still missing some details. I wish there was some way to make the lab complete again since I have all the files, but I don't know how to combine them all into the lab, not to mention the missing sprite of the door to Clairvoya's room. Also, I wanted to add the Ask Madame Clairvoya information in her article but I don't know if I should either make a new section, add it as another subsection in the heading "History" or add it all in Trivia. --Alfonso720 (talk) 01:37, December 19, 2020 (EST)
