Super Mario 64 DS
Template:Infobox Super Mario 64 DS for the Nintendo DS is a remake of Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64. In it, the player can play as Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, and Wario, compared to the Nintendo 64's version, which only allows the player to play as Mario.
Story
Peach writes a letter to Mario, which is apparently seen by both Luigi and Wario, who come in Warp Pipes along with Mario to Peach's Castle to get some cake. Although surprised to see the other two were there, Mario lets it go and the trio start to run up to the castle when Wario bumps into the two. Mario and Luigi stare at him while Wario just chuckles. The three stopped and raced into the castle, when Bowser assumingly ambushes them when they jumped into the Bob-omb painting. (according to a Toad)
Yoshi was asleep the entire time, only to be awakened by Lakitu, (he was seen on the roof, but somehow ended up in front of the castle when woken, probably carried there by Lakitu) who realized that the red, green, and yellow plumbers hadn't returned to the pipes to leave, and instructed Yoshi to locate them.
Yoshi tries to enter the castle, but the doors are locked. Lakitu said he saw a rabbit with the key. After catching the rabbit, the rabbit gives up the key to Yoshi. When Yoshi finally enters, he hears Bowser's voice telling him "no one's home" and to "scram". A nearby Toad tells him Bowser has kidnapped Peach and stolen the power stars. He also says the last time he saw the plumbers is when they jumped into the Bob-omb painting. Yoshi decides to investigate.
Template:Spoiler After freeing the other three plumbers from their prisions, the quartet hunts for the rest of the stars. Some of them are hidden so well that Bowser does not even know about them. After collecting a total of 150 stars, they decide it is time. Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi wish Mario good luck as he faces Bowser for the final time. After making it through another one of Bowser's obstacle couses, Mario encounters Bowser and the two battle. Bowser ends up defeated and is surprised when Mario tells him there were some stars he missed. Bowser gives up and hands Mario the final star before he explodes. When Mario grabs the star, wings suddenly appear on his cap allowing him to fly.
Finally, he lands in front of the castle where Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi are waiting for him. As his wings fade away, Mario uses the power of the stars to make Peach appear in front of the castle. All four rush up to her as she wakes up. Thanking them, Peach kisses Mario and says they will make a cake for her heroes. Peach and the plumbers walk into the castle. Yoshi starts to do so himself, but then pauses and turns around to look at the sky. Peach calls his name and Yoshi runs in after the four. The credits roll and the cake, with Peach, Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi figures, are shown at the very end. Template:Endspoiler

Gameplay
As in Super Mario 64, the courses are accessed by the different paintings on the castle's walls, but in the DS game, the player can collect 150 power stars, 30 more than the original game.
Character Selection
To switch between there are three doors each symbolizing the character's first letter of their name. To Use them, go through the door and out will pop the character who's door he compliments. Switching to Yoshi will mean reentering the door that complements your character once more.
Characters
To have more of a chance beating the game, you need to unlock the three plumbers trapped by Bowser, the must free one more plumber for fun after you collected 150 stars:
- Yoshi - Surprisingly the main hero of the game, Yoshi must free Peach, Mario, Luigi, and Wario from the clutches of Bowser and his minions. He can flutter kick to reach high places.
- Mario - Mario was captured by Goomboss and is necessary to free. Using Yoshi, from the starting point in the castle, go up the stairs and to the right door. Go straight to the next door, go through the 8 star door and hop into the Mario painting. Fight Goomboss for the M key by jumping into a hollowed tree stump at the highest point of the level. Go back to room with the Peach stained glass windows and unlock the M room to free Mario.
- Luigi - Mario's younger brother Luigi is optional, but is required to obain some Power Stars. Go to the top floor of the level Big Boo's Haunt with Mario. This level is very tricky, as some doors lead nowhere. Watch that footing! When you get there, fight King Boo for the L key.
- Wario - Like Luigi, Wario is optional, but is needed to grab stars the others cannot retrieve. Once the large door right at the head of the stairs is unlocked, go inside, then get past another door leading to Snowman's Land. There's two Power Flowers, so use Luigi to go transparent into the mirror by the Snowman's Land wall, fight Chief Chilly for the W key.
The Plumbers' Caps
When entering a world, caps are visible on your screen. When put on, the character will turn into the corresponding character who owns the cap. They are found on Goombas most of the time or randomly place in water or on land.
When hit by an enemy, the cap topples off and the character and will need to retrieve it in limited time.
With Yoshi, a player can select the cap when selecting a star right after jumping into a painting. If a cap is selected, Yoshi will put it on after entering the course. Yoshi is the only character that can use all three caps.
- Mario's Hat - a Red cap that allows Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario to turn into Mario
- Luigi's Hat - a Green cap that allows Yoshi, Mario, or Wario to turn into Luigi
- Wario's Hat - a Yellow cap that allows Yoshi, Mario, or Luigi to turn into Wario
Coins
Coins can be accepted and collected by each character. In each world there are a little over 100 coins and collecting 100 will give you 15 extra stars for the 15 worlds. They can be found on land or in enemies.
Types:
- Yellow Coins - worth 1 and are found in most enemies
- Red Coins - worth 2 and are to be collected in the quantity of 8 for one episode a world.
- Blue Coins - worth 5 and are often temporary, found in tougher enemies.
Power Flower Powers
Each of the four characters has a special power from the power Flower in the ? box. Only Mario can get something other than a powerflower from the ? box and that would be a feather to transform him into Wing Mario. These forms and powers last for a short time (about 20 seconds), except the Wing form (about 1 minute). However, Luigi's and Wario's last shorter than Mario's equivalent forms in Super Mario 64.
Mario: Floating Power
The ability to float in a puffed out formation of the stomach to reach high places, like a P-Balloon. |
Luigi: Vanish Luigi The ability to transform into Vanish Luigi, becoming transparent and go through solid matter and becoming almost invincible, This form has a vulnerabillity to lava and quick sand, as well as to drowning. |
Wario: Metal Wario
The ability to become Metal Wario and become almost invincible, however Metal Wario can sink in sand, and can sink in lava, as well as be hurt by high falls. |
Yoshi: Fire Breath
The ability to melt ice and such with fire blasts. |
Rabbits
Each character has a certain amount of rabbits to catch (they are color coded), plus the sparkled white ones. The Rabbits will give up keys to minigames drawers in the Rec Room. Each character catches 7 rabbits. Wario catches orange, Luigi catches green, Mario catches pink, and Yoshi catches yellow. Yoshi catches 8 because one key is for opening the castle.

- Connect the Characters – Draw lines to match the characters' head to their bodies. Press "GO!" when you're finished to see how you fared!

Trivia
- The tune in the Rec room is the Grass Land overworld theme from Super Mario Bros. 3.
- In this game Thwomps are spiked like in Super Mario Bros. 3 but characters can still stand on them like in Super Mario 64.
- The game was originally going to be called Super Mario 64X4.
- The Super Mushroom power-up was added in this game, mainly found in orange boxes, and caused the player to grow to an enourmous size (and giving Yoshi punching abilities). In the limited time you have it, you can defeat virtually every enemy, something you couldn't do in Super Mario 64.
- Waluigi was rumored to be a playable character. This was later proven true.
- In Tiny-Huge Island, "Klepto the Condor" was originally "Five Itty Bitty Secrets".
