If you're here to ask anything about the changes to the Mario & Sonic coverage, could you check this first please? It might already answer the question and save us both some time- and I've probably explained it better there too- but anything I haven't covered there is fine to ask about. Thanks!

Editing too much.

You have been editing too much on a single page in the span of a few minutes. Please make all of your changes in one big edit, instead of several as it clogs up the Recent changes page. You can use the "Show Preview" button to check your edits before you publish them. It's very important to remember, so that way you don't make another edit to fix a mistake. Thanks! – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 15:45, 1 March 2017 (EST)

Sorry

I'm very sorry, I had a complete blank and forgot about the preview button. I really was not trying to cause any problems, I think I pressed the wrong key when adding a link, and therefore there was an error with the image. I was just trying to fix it.

Mecha-Cheep

The headers on the Mecha Cheep page have been removed before recently, because the page is short and doesn't need headers. --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 15:14, 3 March 2017 (EST)

Last warning

Template:Lastwarn Removing your talk page comments is not acceptable at all on this wiki. If you do it again, you could get blocked for a few weeks. – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 16:30, 3 March 2017 (EST)

This is fairly undeserved. As far as I'm aware, BBQ Turtle did not do it again after receiving an informal reminder on the subject, and even if he did remove them again, doing so does not warrant a last warning. I recommend that you appeal this. Yoshi876 (talk)
But still. Removing content on talk pages is not allowed under any circumstance. And considering that he removed all of it, except for the welcome message, it felt warranted to deserve a last warning. – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 16:50, 3 March 2017 (EST)
Whilst that is correct, many people wrongly assume they are allowed to remove messages, and stop after being told not to do so, which is the case here. Also, once a user receives an informal reminder, no further action is taken unless they continue to commit the offence. And even if action were to be taken, removing messages is not a level 3 offence, it is a level 2 offence. Yoshi876 (talk)

I'm Sorry

I'm very sorry, I did not realise we are not allowed to delete messages on our discussion pages. I don't mean to be rude or ignorant, but I'm new here and am still learning the ropes. I do pay attention to anything that is posted on my page, and ensure that I do not make the same mistakes in the future. I am trying my best to read all of the guidelines and rule pages, and I don't mean to do anything wrong. I know now and, will ensure that it is not done again in the future. I'm so sorry!

It's OK. Originally I did stuff I wasn't supposed to do and learned very quickly from my mistakes. Now, I can provide top-quality edits on any page. Eventually, you'll get used to how the wiki works and be an expert editor. – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 17:14, 4 March 2017 (EST)
Thank you so, so much! I'm really not trying to be rude, but would I still need to appeal against the warning to have it removed or downgraded
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by BBQ Turtle (talk).
I would advise it, because a warning like that remains on your permanent record, and as you stopped performing the action after receiving the informal reminder it does come across as unwarranted (no offence Owencrazyboy9). Yoshi876 (talk)
Where does the appeal need to be placed? Does it need to go beneath the waning, or on a different page?
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by BBQ Turtle (talk).
The appeal goes on this page. Follow the layout it has on there, and wait a few days for the staff to discuss. Also, remember to sign your comments, to do so use: {{User|BBQ Turtle}} Hope that helps :) Yoshi876 (talk)
Is that in the cases section? {{User|BBQ Turtle}}
Sign the comments with four ~ instead. Much easier :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:51, 4 March 2017 (EST)
Thanks! When appealing, does the appeal need to go in the cases section at the bottom?
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by BBQ Turtle (talk).
Yes it does. Yoshi876 (talk)

Mario Kart 8 sponsors

I noticed that you started adding the sponsors on Mario Kart 8 tracks. Maybe you already knew it, but here you can find, in the models of the tracks, all the sponsors' signs that you can upload on the wiki to then create galleries. It doesn't contain the textures of the objects such as cars, buses and airplanes (those will have to be manually uploaded by me, when I'll have time), but it might be a nice start, if it isn't too much work for you.--Mister Wu (talk) 18:28, 10 April 2017 (EDT)

Hi, I would really love to be able to do that, and if I could do it I really would. But the thing is, I am absolutely terrible with all things that include uploading and the computer (It usually takes me five attempts to properly edit anything), so I don't think I'd be able to do it, I'm terribly sorry. Right now, my high-tech method for finding all of the sponsors is my brother driving round courses on time trials and ramming into walls when we see a sponsor, and me writing it down in a notebook! I'm so sorry that I can't do it, but hopefully all of the courses in Mario Kart 8 should have sponsors by the end of next week at the latest, and then I'm onto Mario Kart Wii. I'm extremely happy to hear that you'll upload the trucks and buses at some point though! :DBBQ Turtle (talk) 13:27, 11 April 2017 (EDT)
Oh, I also forgot to say thank you so much for actually noticing! I know it is a rather minor subject, and it doesn't stick out obviously, but it is nice to know that some people are looking at it! By the way, I finished the entire lot today! But thank you so much for noticing, and I do apologise for not being able to upload any more images. BBQ Turtle (talk) 14:12, 13 April 2017 (EDT)
Don't worry about that, I too will likely not be able to upload all the sponsors. Your idea is nice, anyway - in the past Mario Kart games the sponsors were typically covered in the galleries, but in the case of MK8 covering the single courses makes sense as there's a lot of sponsors now and the banners of the same company can even change depending on the course! Thanks for this initial work. I also wish you a happy Easter!--Mister Wu (talk) 18:59, 13 April 2017 (EDT)
Very happy Easter to you too. I'm going to see what I can do, but I'm very happy to hear that you're going to try and help. BBQ Turtle (talk) 06:19, 14 April 2017 (EDT)
I would be willing to help, actually. I had also responded to your request on the talk page you asked in, also (coincidentally) linking to the same site Mister Wu linked to. Just give me time, I won't be available today. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 19:30, 13 April 2017 (EDT)
Thank you, I found that yesterday but I didn't have time to reply on the talk page, I was actually going to go and do it now! Thanks for offering to help whenever you can, I'll see what I can do too, but I was given lots of homework to do over the holidays so I may not have much more time. I may be able to start some today though! BBQ Turtle (talk) 06:19, 14 April 2017 (EDT)
I've finally managed to get stuff from that website! I'm trying to upload as much as I can at the moment, I've got everything we were missing (and some I didn't realise that were missing) from Toad Harbor though!:D BBQ Turtle (talk) 14:18, 14 April 2017 (EDT)

Image Category Reminder

Hello, BBQ Turtle. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the {{aboutfile}} template, replacing the {{uncategorized}} template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

[[Category:Super Mario World images]]
or
[[Category:Super Mario World media files]]

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Several of your Mario Kart 8 uploads today were missing Category:Mario Kart 8 Images. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 14:30, 14 April 2017 (EDT)

I'm very, very sorry, I did not realise that you had to categorise images, and until now I did not know how to. I'm about to upload some more, but I will ensure that they are all categorised as Mario Kart 8 images from now on. Sorry for any issues that may have caused. Moving files

Hi. As you probably know, moving pages to a new name leaves the old name behind as a redirect. When moving files in the future, please remember to mark the old name for deletion using {{delete}}, as we don't allow file redirects. Thanks! Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 07:19, 7 May 2017 (EDT)

Sorry about that, I was planning to mark them for deletion after I had done the lot. I have to stop now any way, thanks for deleting them though. Sorry for any problems that may have caused! BBQ Turtle (talk) 07:23, 7 May 2017 (EDT)

Re:Mario Circuit (GCN)

Really, it just depends on which side of the page you put the images on. I moved them so that they wouldn't just seem to cut off part of the text. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 13:03, 5 June 2017 (EDT)

Righty-ho, thank you for that. (: Do you reckon I should remove the {{Rewrite}}? BBQ Turtle (talk) 15:14, 5 June 2017 (EDT)

RE: Congratulations!

Thank you :) I noticed that last night, but it's changed now :P Yoshi876 (talk)

Page Categories

Just something to keep in mind as you're editing: per MarioWiki:Categories, categories relating to games should be listed last (and in alphabetical order). Using Bob-omb Plugs as an example, Category:Mario Companies should be the first category listed, followed by Category:Mario Kart 8 and Category:Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:56, 10 July 2017 (EDT)

It's one of the more obscure rules, to be sure, and it's not particularly intuitive. I just keep in mind that the species goes at the top, the games go at the bottom, and everything else gets stuffed in between. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 17:23, 10 July 2017 (EDT)

Sponsors

Since you're adding the sponsors from the Wii U Mario Kart game and its unnecessary remake, will you add the one's from the previous games, like KoopaAir and Luigip/Luigi's, which have about the same amount of relevance to the games they're in as these do? Just curious. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:46, 26 August 2017 (CT)

Hello there. I come baring news, both good and bad. Bad news: several members, including myself, were wondering about the validity of the sponsors pages you have been creating. You have done a good job finding all this information, however we've concluded that separate pages for the sponsors aren't necessary and could easily fit into a List of Mario Kart sponsors page, to go along with the Gallery:Sponsors in the Mario Kart series page. That's the good news. You're welcome to include everything onto one page, meaning your information wouldn't be lost, and have the individual pages become redirects. However, it's been noticed that some of the information is speculation, so (while I'm not seeing any myself) be sure to go over your work during the move. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 12:02, 31 August 2017 (EDT)

The only other way I can think of is the outright deletion of them, but I don't think you'd want that. I realize there are a lot of sponsors in the Mario Kart series, but it really would make more sense to have them as a list. The speculation surrounding what we think they do would have to be cut, as all we have to off of on this is the logos. There's no solid concrete evidence of anything the companies do, really. You've done a good job, but the pages really don't need to go that in depth about the sponsor. For all we know, Nintendo didn't put any (or at least, little) thought into making them and just made a logo of some kart-related kind.
"Validity" may have been the wrong word to use. I think I meant "relevance"? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:21, 31 August 2017 (EDT)
If you're worried about a full list of sponsors being too large of a page (and I totally agree, it would be HUGE), separate articles for the individual games would work as well, like List of Mario Kart 8 sponsors. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:42, 31 August 2017 (EDT)
If you're unsure as to how to structure the page, you can always make a post on the forums about it. And once the page is created, other users can help with the speculative stuff.
For the sections, a simple description of the sponsor, such as who it's based on and what it's about, will do along with an image. Your idea sounds good, I like the table chart idea :) Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:55, 1 September 2017 (EDT)
Yeah, they can be left as is for now. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:09, 1 September 2017 (EDT)

There's no need to put "I'm not vandalizing" in your edit summaries. As long as you explain the purpose of your edit, you'll be fine. However, I will say that it may be best to make the section on the collective page before converting the original page into a redirect so the redirect isn't broken. Just a thought. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 15:27, 9 October 2017 (EDT)

Hello! Just so you know (as I've fixed a few recently), when you move the content of the pages to the new page, please remember to change the redirects that lead to the original page so that they lead to the new page. This helps prevent broken double redirects. Thanks! --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 21:42, 13 October 2017 (EDT)

Bus

The screenshot shows it as bright, reflective mahogany, which is red, not pink. Trust me, I've played the game many times, and there are no pink buses to speak of. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:34, 30 October 2017 (EDT)

I still say the greater portion of the buses are a dark, shiny red. The side panels are a light red-to-dark dull pink, I'll give you. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:36, 30 October 2017 (EDT)

Car proposal passed

It's all you. :) Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 19:10, 15 November 2017 (EST)

Looks good!
The trucks and oil tanker can just be in one Truck article, and if they're different (e.g. some of them have ramps / Dash Panels on them), just mention them on the page. As for the taxi, we have a Taxi article for the taxis in Odyssey, but I think it'd be better suited in Car (obstacle). Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 23:47, 16 November 2017 (EST)
Sounds like something that could use another proposal. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 19:15, 17 November 2017 (EST)
The proposal can be done under "New features" on MarioWiki:Proposals. My suggestion would be an option to create a single Truck article housing every type of truck, which also mentions the differences between them, if any (i.e. the ramp / glide ramp trucks); an option to create Truck, but also create separate articles for the ramp and glide ramp trucks; and an oppose (do nothing) option. About you Anagram challenge in The 'Shroom

Hi, I just want to comment that you did a good job on your first anagram puzzle in the latest issue of The 'Shroom. However, you made a small error in the bonus anagram. You colored the spaces in the main anagrams and had us think there are two "S"s in the answer instead of two "R"s. Anyway, you still did a good job, you stumped me on a few of them, but I'm looking forward to your next puzzle in next month's issue. Char89Charizard (talk) 01:45, 22 November 2017 (EST)

Well the two anagrams that uses 2 colored S spaces are 5. Conker Dynamics and 10. Modest Boo. All you need to do to fix the error is change one of the S colored spaces into an R colored space. And since number 5 has an R in the puzzle, you can fix it by coloring in the spot where the R should be and removing the color where the S was supposed to be. Char89Charizard (talk) 18:58, 22 November 2017 (EST)
Notice a mistake in your latest anagram puzzle. In the last entry you put Rooks Hum Park with the answer as Mushroom Park. Did one of the Ks turned into an M? Char89Charizard (talk) 16:50, 5 January 2018 (EST)
Rooks Hum Mark? But that would leave out the P wouldn't it? Char89Charizard (talk) 17:16, 5 January 2018 (EST)
You did it again. You left out an S for number 10, not to mention you were one letter short.

Redirects

One thing to keep in mind as you edit: directly linking to redirects is discouraged. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 18:26, 24 November 2017 (EST)

Arbitrarily making exceptions like that isn't all that good. I'd stick to directly linking to the pages. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 18:37, 24 November 2017 (EST)

I elaborated on my oppose vote on this proposal, which I think you might want to comment on, especially regarding the last point. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 16:07, 18 January 2018 (EST)

Basically, I've already done everything that needs to be featured. Essentially, what Time Turner stated in his oppose is what needs to be fixed. But for articles in general, if you're not sure if it should be featured or not, it doesn't hurt to ask! BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 15:31, 6 March 2018 (EST)

Event table

Hey. On the Event page, what do you think about copying the row with games under each header, instead of keeping one above all? It may look repetitive, but I think the table would be easier to follow this way. Just an idea. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 08:08, 5 July 2018 (EDT)

EDIT: Like this:

-- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 08:10, 5 July 2018 (EDT)

I don't see a problem with tucking in an additional row even for the smaller headlines. The table is difficult to follow right now--different versions are divided in such a way that the user does not know which one is which unless they scroll up to see, know what I mean? I know I had this problem, and even if I have it figured out now, I might still not be 100% sure and have to check. I get lost easily when I have to count the columns and remember things at the same time, and one cannot guarantee that other users don't have this problem.
Below I formatted the whole table so that the row with games appears under each headline. The first table lists games with their whole titles, while the other is more abridged in that regard. I'll leave it to you to decide which one looks better than the other or if none are good. Also, it seems that the appearance enforced by the nav template (black bolded links instead of blue links, smaller letters etc.) make the table look even more appealing, so we can format the table ourselves to look similar. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 06:03, 6 July 2018 (EDT)

Event table (continuation)

(I've made another section to spare me the tedium of scrolling through the huge table code when writing you a message.)

Adding a new column like that wouldn't change much, in my opinion. If anything, it would clutter the table even more. Again, I find that the most intuitive way to format the table is to add the row of games under each class. After all, the goal of the table is to inform in a clear way, which of course would induce repetitiveness but this is irrelevant to a database-like table. And if we change the links to appear black instead of blue like in the nav template above, we could even make it pleasing to the eye!

On a related note, I'm seeing that your proposal doesn't get much traction. I'm sorry, I wish more people participated to it because it is important. In this case, I think that a NO QUORUM would let you do what you proposed, since the proposal is about a preferable way something is implemented on the wiki. So take an informal support vote from me because it don't matter any mo'. And if someone objects after things are done, they are free to open another proposal. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 14:46, 6 July 2018 (EDT)

Ok. I'll add it with functional black links. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:22, 6 July 2018 (EDT)

What do you say? -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 06:07, 7 July 2018 (EDT)

Squiddicus

He's referred to as a "king" and "emperor" in his Japanese names, pretty concretely identifying him as male. Also, while not all mollusks have specific sexes, Cephalopods do. However, what bothers me about your edit is your changing of mentions of arms to tentacles. They're arms, not tentacles. Cephalopod tentacles are unique to squid, and are the long appendages with the leaf shape on the end containing the cups or spikes, while the long triangular appendages are arms. I don't get too annoyed when people make that mistake, but when they change something to the incorrect term, it really perturbs me. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:25, 15 August 2018 (EDT)

New message

I'm having trouble creating/recovering an account and I'm not sure who to talk to. Is there a support email address or something that addresses this sort of thing, or should I just message a sysop? I was hoping there would be an admin noticeboard like on a lot of other mediawiki-based sites I frequent, but alas, there doesn't seem to be.

In case someone reading this (bbq obviously included) has the privileges to help

I am trying to either recover my account "macks2008" which appears to be using an old password & email address, create a new account with which to continue as I don't think there was much on that old account anyway, or both and get them merged if possible. The specific issues with these options are as follows:

  • For recovering the old account: it doesn't seem to be sending an email to any of my current addresses, so I assume the password and email associated with the account are long out of date. Can't recover with an email address I don't have any more, so...
  • For creating a new account: the captcha was not showing up and, after I failed it twice (because it's invisible...), a box at the top of the page informed me my IP was blocked from account creation for an unspecified period of time (presumably 24 hours). I'll try again tomorrow with a different browser (or possibly today with TOR), but in the meantime I'm SoL on this one as well.

PS:I have the same issue with captchas not showing up when I'm making edits like this, so chances are it's something to do with my browser since Microsoft Edge doesn't have this issue. It would be good to know what sort of web element captchas are, so I know what isn't working on Firefox? As far as I know JavaScript, flash, and so forth are enabled, but I've been having weird problems with a lot of webpages, most of which seem to point to a JavaScript problem.

London 2012 Olympic Games Wii

Like I said on the clean-up thread of the forum, I can work on this game. I can't provide images, but I can definitely work on it. It may not be 100%, but I work with what I got and later improve the article. I am guessing you would want the articles to be similar to 100m (Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for Wii), so I'll try my best to do it. Just say what you want me to work on and I'll get to it... after I get done with Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS level articles, but, this shouldn't take very long. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 15:23, 18 September 2018 (EDT)

For Badminton (also called Badminton - Doubles), Table Tennis (also called Table Tennis - Singles), and Fencing (also called Fencing - Epee), do you want me to put name (Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for Wii) and leave the Badminton (Doubles), Singles, and Fencing - Epee articles alone save for about templates (change slightly for first only). Or do you want me to move any of those. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 14:49, 24 September 2018 (EDT)
Ok. Also, it could also be like Canoe Sprint 1000m, as all of these only appear when over the event is highlighted over and when viewing the rules and controls. As for the other three which are like that, they are Equestrian (Equestrian - Show Jumping), Shooting (Shooting - Pistol), and Cycling (Track Cycling - Team Pursuit). I thinking Equestrian should be like the Canoeing article, while Equestrian - Show Jumping be the actual event article. But, what about the other two on this list? And Wednesday sounds like a good day to hear an answer for this. As I should do the Gymnastics and Aquatic's 100m Freestyle first. Also, what Synchronized Swimming identifier should I use (when I get to there)? Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 19:27, 24 September 2018 (EDT)
Ok. So, when I get to there, I will make it like the others and in the about template, link to the team first then duet. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 13:08, 25 September 2018 (EDT)
Also did this for Rhythmic Ribbon but without Rhythmic Ribbon (team) being created. Another thing, should I write things about the song? I mean like what circles appear for Rhythmic Ribbon and what actions the player needs to do for Synchronized Swimming. Nothing overly complicated. And to clarify, I would create their own sections on those respected pages. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 16:55, 26 September 2018 (EDT)
