Omnium is a Cycling Event that appears exclusively in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The aim of the event is to score the most points by placing the highest in a series of four individual races. The starting record for this event is 17pt(s).

Gameplay

In this event, the player competes in a series of four races against their opponents to score points. The player starts the event with a limited stamina of 8 hearts, and then can use up this stamina to select a starting position to give them an advantage using the control pad. They can take one of four positions, with the furthest back requiring no stamina, the next one requiring one heart, the next requiring two hearts and the furthest forward requiring four. They will have a limited time to select this before the sprint starts, and during this time, Omochao will appear in the top corner of the screen and give the advice "Getting a lot of points requires a lot of ♥s.". During the sprint, the player must repeatedly tap A Button to cause their character to cycle faster and cross the finish line in the fastest time, with their starting position potentially giving them an advantage, however characters in any position can be overtaken with enough speed. After the player crosses the line, the player will be given a number of points depending on which position they finished in, with five points being awarded for first, three for second, two for third and one for fourth. At the end of the four races, each character's points will be added up and the one with the highest total will win.

Controls

1) Set rank: Move +Control Pad left/right.
Aiming for a high rank means you'll have less stamina!
2) Dash: Tap the A Button repeatedly.

Medley Match

In Medley Match mode, Omnium appears as the third event of the Swim/Run Medley and the Snap Judgments Medley.

Story Mode

In the game's story mode, Omnium appears as the third challenge of Girls Episode 2, Peach in a Pinch, in which Blaze must beat three imposters of Peach. It also appears as the third part of the challenge of Girls Bonus 1, An Innocent Request, in which Amy must beat Blaze in it as well as in Archery (Individual) and Keirin.
