Short Track Speed Skating 1000m is a Speed Skating Event that appears in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The objective of the event is to complete seven laps of the rink in the fastest time, with the event taking place at the Iceberg Skating Palace. Toads, Charmy and Chao appear as referees in this event.

Gameplay

In this event, the player starts by swinging the Wii Remote down, and can get a starting boost by swinging it down with perfect timing, however doing it too soon will cause their start to be delayed. Once the player has started skating, they can steer their character by tilting the Wii Remote left and right, and can perform quick turns on the corners of the course by holding B Button while tilting. On Straight sections of the track, the player can tilt their Wii Remote forward to increase their character's speed. The course also features special boost lines, which are blue lines that appear on the track that the player can skate along to fill their special boost gauge. Once the gauge is full, the player can press A Button to perform a special boost, which will give them a large increase in speed temporarily. The boost gauge an only be filled when the player is not currently storing a special boost, and only one can be stored at a time. The character that completes seven laps of the course in the fastest time wins the event.
