MarioWiki:Main Page talk archive 6
Just a quick question
How come when i searched for : the main page came up?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Isyou (talk).
- Odd. It links to "http://www.mariowiki.com", which goes to the Main Page. It's like a Home redirect. Wa TC@Y 19:42, 6 March 2007 (EST)
RareWiki
Could someone add the link to the side box with the Wiki Forum, etc.-- Aipom --
- We're not affiliated with the RareWiki, so no. --Steve (talk) 18:38, 1 March 2007 (EST)
- Remember we're separate entities. The transferring of articles is the only thing related. Wa TC@Y 20:04, 1 March 2007 (EST)
I understand. I just thought that since you created it and part of it will be about the trietary focus of this Wiki and all.-- Aipom --
- Well Banjo & Conker are gone – I removed tertiary focus from MarioWiki:Importance Policy. Wa TC@Y 20:13, 1 March 2007 (EST)
Hello? The "Remove the Tertiary Focus from the Importance Policy Picture" was my idea. you guys seemed to forget about the whole page! Max2 (talk) Like the sig, Steve?
- I was creating Help:Article. The articles need to be deleted by sysops as soon as all images are transferred. If I'm on tonight, maybe I'll undertake the dirty work. Wa TC@Y 15:02, 2 March 2007 (EST)
I would have thought that once a page was moved, it would be marked for deletion, which would have made this matter moot. -- Chris 18:51, 2 March 2007 (EST)
- I'm going through Special:Allpages at RareWiki tonight and plucking them out one-by-one. Yes they should have, but something happened... Wa TC@Y 21:59, 2 March 2007 (EST)
I just wasted spent 75 minutes getting rid of all RareWiki articles and images, as well as a few templates. :D Wa TC@Y 00:47, 3 March 2007 (EST)
Why was Conker deleted? I cut down Banjo and his' articles just to have their Diddy Kong Racing Appearance in their article. So why was he deleted?
- It would seem that Conker is still there or has been restored. -- Chris 19:25, 5 March 2007 (EST)
I noticed Conker was deleted for reasons unknown and rewrote his article from scratch, instead of restoring it. -- Sir Grodus
Apology
Sorry for the mix up with gallery tags. My home computer has a smaller monitor than the one I am currently using. I can see the I was mistaken about three pics per gallery tag and am in the process of fixing my mistakes. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry about it. -- Chris 20:15, 6 March 2007 (EST)
- I think I got them all. If I missed on, let me know, or feel free to roll it back yourself. -- Chris 20:15, 11 March 2007 (EDT)
RareWiki Isyou
There's an imposter on the RareWiki using Isyou's name. The real Isyou is Super isyou on RareWiki. Someone please help me find out who the fake Isyou is.-- Aipom --
- Is this faker causing trouble? If not, I don't see why we need to worry about this. We aren't even affilitated with RareWiki.-- Chris 20:23, 6 March 2007 (EST)
I'll help. are there any Sysops or any Administrator there? Max2 (talk)and 2nd, is Fake Isyou a troll?
So far, he/she has only had 1 contribution, but Wayoshi seems sort of mad at me for not telling him, so I figured that it must be pretty important.-- Aipom --
I'm on it! Max2 (talk) Ace Detective! (seriously, I'm a pretty good detective.) Wish Me Luck!
- I'm just going to note this: The only contribution that the RareWiki Isyou made was done before that Wiki was created. --KPH2293 20:31, 6 March 2007 (EST)
How's that even possible?-- Aipom --
huh? Max2 (talk) 8( I can't search that! OK, we need a Sysop on RareWiki! $25 for helpin' 8) not really.
It was done before? how is that possible? Isyou 20:38, 6 March 2007 (EST)
Wait... How'd YOU know that? 80 Max2 (talk)
You can look at the dates the edits were made on wikis in history i think... Isyou 20:40, 6 March 2007 (EST)
He's right. He also left fake Isyou a message on his talk page. And Yoshi626 said it a few lines above.-- Aipom --
I don't get it either. -- Sir Grodus
- Yoshi626
- Aipom
- Anybody here.
- (After two edit conflicts, I can finally post this) Look through here. That edit was made about a week before the RareWiki was created. It's a result of the page being imported from here. Isyou must've been the last person to edit that page before it was imported to the RareWiki. --KPH2293 20:45, 6 March 2007 (EST)
That make some sense, but who come in didn't do that with the other articles. And 3 edit conflicts for me :(-- Aipom --
- Aipom
- Real Isyou
- not a suspect, but if you forgot, I'm the Detective. Thank you!
Why me!?! I'm the one who alerted this.-- Aipom --
oh, sorry. I meant... wait. did you say "Isyou must've been the last person to edit that page before it was imported to the RareWiki."? Max2 (talk) Just a bit of something, check the I.P address on that isyou on the rare wiki. Its not the same I.P that i o on everyday (although today im on a different computer) but its still different. Isyou 20:52, 6 March 2007 (EST)
- Could a sysop just look through the deleted page history of Conker: Live & Reloaded? If there's an edit by Isyou on 15:56, February 17, 2007, then they are the same person. --KPH2293 20:52, 6 March 2007 (EST)
I have to go. but before I do... It's someone on this Wiki' Max2 (talk)
Wow, this spiraled pretty far out of control in a little over ten minutes.-- Aipom --
First of all stop talking about another website. If you want, discuss this at RareWiki, not here. I'm not trying to be mean but you should be talking about MarioWiki on MarioWiki and talk about RareWiki on RareWiki.
Second to resolve all this and get it off the Main Page talk, it may have been a glitch. Or there is a possibility that someone has created an Isyou account somewhere on Wikia, but that still doesn't explain how that Isyou edited on MarioWiki. Regardless, the only way for Isyou to get his name on RareWiki is to use the glitched account's password. Maybe you'll have to contact Wayoshi for that, he's the only sysop on RareWiki for now.Knife (talk) 21:06, 6 March 2007 (EST)
- Question. If someone makes an account on Wikia, then does that person automatically have an account on all wiki running through Wikia? -- Chris 22:05, 6 March 2007 (EST)
- Yes. --KPH2293 22:16, 6 March 2007 (EST)
- I'm using the name Ghost Jam here. Does that mean I can't create the name on Wikia, or is it already there and I technically already have an account on every wiki in the system? -- Chris 22:39, 6 March 2007 (EST)
- Since this Wiki isn't apart of Wikia, you would still need to create an account there. And once you created it on any Wikia, you'd have an account for every Wikia. --KPH2293 00:23, 13 March 2007 (EDT)

- Yes. --KPH2293 22:16, 6 March 2007 (EST)
Alright guys, enough. It took me a couple of seconds to figure this out after seeing the "fake" edit diff, but it's ok – you didn't realize that imported edits from the Super Mario Wiki show up on RareWiki's articles' history. This is why the edit is from before the RareWiki was created. Son of Suns hasn't joined the RareWiki yet, but look – tons of edits from his work here. If Mr. Isyou here had joined under the same name, he would have had 1 contribution to start.
Now, enough of this detective "you did it" "No I didn't!" stuff. Case solved: no imposter, just a past edit from here showing up. No big deal at all blown out of proportion by Isyou, Aipom, and Maxlover unintentionally (no problem guys – I'm just relieved we don't have a troll yet.) Wa TC@Y 22:49, 6 March 2007 (EST)
What a relief.-- Aipom --
Image Categorization
I've noticed that in some categories on Wikipedia, all related images are listed under the same category. Would that be something we should do here? For those who don't understand, Super Mushroom is an item. The image of a super mushroom would have the category tag for Items placed on it. That way, the image shows up on the category page for items. I'm going to do that one right now as an example. -- Chris 05:29, 8 March 2007 (EST)
- Take a look at Category:Mushrooms. It would seem that it doesn't work the same way here as it does on Wikipedia. Over there, the category page has a seprate section for images. -- Chris 05:32, 8 March 2007 (EST)
- Yeah, images are placed separately after all articles have been listed. And as for my opinion, I don't think we need this – licenses are enough – we have been working hard, especially RAP, to license images – no need to go back to add them to "normal" categories. Wa TC@Y 17:50, 8 March 2007 (EST)
- K. Removing tags. -- Chris 19:02, 8 March 2007 (EST)

Inclusion of Consoles and Companies
This has been bugging me for a long, long while, do we need articles on companies, consoles, etc.? Sure, an article on Super Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto may seem good, but when you look at the big picture, it when things spiral out of control. Heres what I mean:
We have articles on Nintendo gaming systems Mario has starred in, why not have articles on gaming consoles not made by Nintendo that Mario has starred on? Now we've got ColecoVision, the PC, etc. But what about the companies that helped in creating those systems and thus, the games? We have HAL Labs and Rare, Ltd., what about the rest? Next Atari has an article. But what about influential people in the creating of those companies/systems/games, Gunpei Yokoi and Charles Martinet get an article, why can't Chris Stamper have one; we might even have articles on the companies/people who made the comics/games, like whats been done with Valiant Comics.
You decide on what to do. -- Sir Grodus
- Not enough Mario related games have been released on ColecoVison or the PC, but I see your point. I feel that companies, systems and people directly related to Mario have a place here. If one is not sure of related to Mario or related become disputed, it could always be put to a vote on a talk page. Maybe a list could be put together of possible articles that could spring from this issue and pick off the bad ones right off the bat. -- Chris 19:08, 8 March 2007 (EST)
I think we should develop a policysimilar to the importance policy, limiting articles about real-world subjects. Agreed?Knife (talk) 20:20, 8 March 2007 (EST)
- Sounds like a plan. -- Chris 22:33, 8 March 2007 (EST)
Suggestions for Improvement
- A Featured Content page like on Wikipedia.
- A page where users can discuss how to improve the Main Page, such as easier navigation.
- Sysop/Bureacrat Nomination
- Use of <forum> on the Trouble Center. This orders all troubles by oldest to newest automatically. (requires installation)
- Create a bot to majorly update the navigation link pages and/or fight vandalism. (very complex)
- A page where users can discuss improving the wiki in general or recommend a new project.
- A {{Support}} and {{Oppose}} template for voting.
- Make more project-related userboxes. (like one on the Trouble Center or FAs)
- Increase overall communication by encouraging more use of the Wiki Alliance's chatroom.
- Clarify that that all users can now have 5 personal images. (perhaps through the 'Shroom)
I am going to be out for a while so if you oppose or support any of these ideas, don't expect an answer from me. Also, I only made about an 1/8 of these ideas up, most of them came from other wikis. Anyway, I wish you a great Spring Break. Knife (talk) 20:41, 9 March 2007 (EST)
- First 1... nah... this Wiki is kinda small for that...
- Isn't that already here and at Steve's talk page? A page like that would help though, I think.
- This wiki doesn't do that.
- Sounds good
- That would be great. (Don't know if that can happen though)
- Isn't that already here and at Steve's talk page? A page like that would help though, I think. Copying and pasting rules.
- Not needed
- Yeah, that sounds good. But users can already do that now.
- All for it!
- Yeah, that should go on the main header in a week or so after most people know about RareWiki.
Additional Notes: LUCKY! I don't have Spring Break until APRIL! 20:54, 9 March 2007 (EST)
- Example of what Knife's talking about – we don't have that many FAs or other types of FAs – not needed
- This is what this page is supposed to be for – but I think the Main Page is already simple enough – already fine at navigation points
- MarioWiki:FAQ clearly states in #9 of section 1.6 "On some wikis, like Wikipedia, it's acceptable to nominate yourself for sysophood at any time. On this wiki, however, openly asking is usually met with suspicion and resentment from regular users." – so no
- I'll consider it. We'd use DynamicPageLists and change the whole system around so that one request takes one sub-page. No need for another extension -
- I've tried and failed – I'm not a PHP coder, so I can't make these myself. Vandalism isn't that bad here, though – necessary?
- They can do that here, at the unofficial community portal. You're doing it right now.
- FA nominations already have support and oppose sections distinguished – no need -
- Agreed – MarioWiki:Userbox hasn't been updated recently – I'll see what I can do
- Already happening – 3D, Max are frequent visitors, and more are coming
- It's 4, and I'll put it in Issue III tomorrow.
Wa TC@Y 21:02, 9 March 2007 (EST)
Five if you count the one in the sig
hey! I added my Pichu userbox to that section! Max2 (talk)
- I agree with... Plumber
- Sounds good
- I like it
- yes
- no, we might as well add more sysops
- yes
- maybe
- yes
- yes
- yes-- Aipom --
- I mainly support numbers 3 & 5. Number 3, because I think it's a good idea to have nominations, so the community could decide on a potential sysop candidate. I like the idea of a bot because it could be programmed to do automated text replacements (Example: - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door + Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door), and it could automatically refresh the Sandbox on a daily basis, so it's not filled up all the time. --KPH2293 23:46, 13 March 2007 (EDT)
Templates
Is there a bad quality image improvement template, if there isn't could somebody make it. And also, could somebody make a template for canceled Featured Articles, saying something like this: "It was canceled from being a nomination because of the improvement something below". YoshiFan
- {{cancelednom}} covers the 2nd request and I'll make the 1st one based off of {{image}} right now - Wa TC@Y 12:31, 10 March 2007 (EST)
List of Cameos Page
This topic was brought up from the Pikmin discussion page. Do you think that we should create a page for each cameo, or merge tham all together?-- Aipom --
- Merge and section for each character. -- Chris 19:27, 13 March 2007 (EDT)
- Definitely a section for each character – if someone gets around to it. Wa TC@Y 19:40, 13 March 2007 (EDT)
So you guys are talking about keeping the list of cameos page, right?-- Aipom --
Cool.-- Aipom --
- EX: The cameos page would have a section for Wario cameos, then a section for Mario cameos, then Yoshi cameos, etc. -- Chris 19:45, 13 March 2007 (EDT)
Now we need to add merge templates on all of the pages.-- Aipom --
and a page for charavters that are un-marioverse. - Ultimatetoad 18:57, 14 March 2007 (EDT)
Do we include the cameos the characters in the Mario series have made in other games? {Like Chain Chomps in Zelda) Oh, and the SSB characters still should get their own page. The Samus and Link part should have a Main Article:Link thing.
5,000+ Articles!

It probably was you, :P
It probably was Plumber, with his new Diddy Kong Racing pages. WTG Booster
I think it was, I made all these DKRDS stubs. But I'm not sure.

OK. Anyway, who else could be nominated for sysop? And aren't there currently, like, almost too much? 3D, nominations!
There are, but I see most of you are here when there aren't Sysops. I would vote YY. Ill see if I can talk to Steve about it.HK47, .
I don't want to be, seriously, I sware, but... we should make users who are on a lot sysops, or temporay sysops. Max2 (talk)

Bowser's Wife: Article or No Article?
Would an article like "Bowser's Wife" belong here? The article doesn't exist yet, but I think that it would be a good addition for the wiki if placed in the category: "Implied". Here are my reasons:
1) Having babies in the Marioverse is a tricky issue. While some characters (Petey Piranha, Yoshi) can generate offspring without a partner, it's pretty much taken for granted that humans and certain species require intercourse in order to have babies. 2) In Paper Mario 2, from what I recall, Koops has a father and a mother. (Although I may be mistaken.) Although we don't know exactly HOW the father and mother had Koops, it is reasonable to assume that they had sex. (If I may be so forward.) 3) Since Bowser is a Koopa, and he has Koopalings, it is fair to come to the conclusion that Bowser has (or at least once had) a wife. Of course, it is possible that Bowser, being a special kind of Koopa, didn't need a mate (perhaps he has magic offspring-creation powers we don't know about?), or that some crazy explanation twists this whole thing. 4) A Nintendo power issue (a secondary-canon source of information) listed Bowser's wife as Klawdia Koopa, although that was most likely a joke.
Anyway, what all this is saying is that there is quite a bit of (flimsy) evidence in the Marioverse that points to Bowser having a wife. Of course, this is just on the borderline between wiki-worthy and un-wiki-worthy. I think that the decision could go either way.
So, the question is: Is this enough evidence to give Bowser's Wife (possibly Klawdia Koopa) a (most likely short) article in the "Implied" category?Waluigi Freak 99 13:37, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
well, we wrote one for Wario's mom... but, no. should we write an article on Wario's dad? Max2
Wario's dad? No. Klawdia Koopa? Maybe, but it was probably a joke from Nintendo Power.
Klawdia was mentioned by Nintendo Power, not a Mario game/manual. If there is ever a reference to her in-game, we can make an article. Same with Wario's mom. - Ultimatetoad
Not to play devil's advocate, how are the storks involved? Any thoughts? --Stumpers: shocked but a little giggly to see the s word in the SMW)
What is going on?
What has happened to this wiki over the course of a week? Talking about cheese, using the wiki as a forum, uploading unused images to the wiki? I doubt you all would do this if Wayoshi or Son of Suns was still around. And HK, you are giving the wrong idea about this wiki. You are encouraging more chaotic randomness. So please everyone, stop all this random stuff. If you want, take this to the forum.Knife (talk) 14:23, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

My point is that you should take cheese talk to the forums.Knife (talk) 15:40, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
- This IS getting a bit out of hand....I agree that we should have community categories, but not like this. Honestly, I've been meaning to make a Sysops category for a while now. -- Chris 16:18, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
Would I be a good sysop? The MissingLink I'm NOT running but just wondering
I don't see the need for a sysop category. There is a special page for that. I don't think community categories are good overall. Maybe we can make user groups on the forum though.Knife (talk) 17:00, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
You might be, DB, as long as you don't go on a SEE MY VEST rampage again, lol :P
I'm back, and I'm very disappointed about the "cheese" thing. This wiki is now big enough to have user categories, I suppose, but there were 96 edits on that Cheese category talk page. Unbelievable. And about the spam: I'll think about a spam committee on the wiki to minimize damage. Wa TC@Y 19:08, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
